Cxx0 General discussions / Partition Sd 4gig - Hmmm
« on: October 26, 2006, 12:38:19 am »
I just got a new 4 gig card  YAY!!   now I want to partition it, so I have a vfat partition, and an ext2 partition ...

I'm using fdisk as shipped with pdaXrom beta3 - I have replaced the SD driver with the newer tetsu/cresho one (from the newer 3200 series)

I fdisk /dev/mmcda

and create two new partitions. (at cylinders 1600 and 2407)

This should give me two partitions roughly 3 gigs and 1 gig .. or close enough.

then I use the type option to set primary partition 1 to type 6 (fat16) and primary partition 2 to type 83 (linux)

Then I do mkfs.msdos /dev/mmcda1
and a mkfs.ext2 /dev/mmcda2

mkdir /mnt/ext2

a mount -t ext2 /dev/mmcda2 /mnt/ext2 fails with a generic error .. wrong fs, too many mounted file systems ... etc ...  Not sure why this is happening. . .

And when I put the SD card into my windows machine, it only reconizes 1 gig. (.99 to be exact) I figured this was because of choosing fat16 and a limitation. so I chose hex option b (fat32) the next time I fdisked the card ... and still the same problem.

I have since re-built the partition info, and formatted in windows to get the full 4gigs in vfat. However -- I don't like that it didn't work ... I followed all the instructions I've found perfectly, and I understand what it is doing and how it's happening ... but I don't see where my error is occuring.

Anyone else have some input that might help me out on this? I would like to install GIMP + extra brushes on the SD card since I don't have enough room for it internally.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Beta 3 Fixes, Customs, Contrib
« on: July 17, 2006, 11:12:53 pm »
I have assembled a collection of edits, fixes, how-to's, and documentation that I thought would be handy for a new user to pdaXrom. The hardest part of learning pdaXrom when I first tried to install it was the fact that there is no one central place for documentation. (apart from this forum) Hopefully this will help bring (and keep) new users around

I also hope that by having all the fixes listed that we can find for the 2.4 system .. we will eventually be able to release an installer that will work from the get-go insted of having to edit scripts and fixes. Any fix not listed please email or PM me. I will try to add more as I continue to explore.

General Discussion / Moto4lin - Phone Connect V551
« on: July 06, 2006, 11:02:42 am »
I have moto4lin installed on my C1000 with pdaXrom. I'm trying to connect with my Moto V-551 (this phone is supported) moto4lin wiki

The phone was reconized and listed the first time I booted and turned on the phone ... however I was messing with AT and P2K trying to figure out which to use, and never fully connected. . .  but now it isn't reconized. lsusb just lists 0000 and a default device.

ok .. seems it was pairing for AT but still not connecting. . I changed AT to 4902 and left P2K set to 4901 and it seemed to work afterthat ... at least I can connect and list files now!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Xmmsmplayer Ipk Listed - Not Found
« on: July 06, 2006, 01:27:37 am »
The feed for 7x0-860 moved to here

I added it to the package manager .. but the package is not listed.

When I ipkg list from the term, the package is listed, but ipkg install xmmsmplayer returns a not found error .. the same error happens when I ipkg install xmmsmplayer_0.5_arm5tel.ipk

I downloaded it from that location and installed it locally from the SD.  Everything is working fine ...   it's strange it wouldn't see it in the feed.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Imagebuilder - Build Personal Rom
« on: July 06, 2006, 12:20:00 am »
the correct link for download is ImageBuilder-0.0.2.tar.bz2

Last year Sash released a GUI Imagebuilder to Customize pdaXrom - check the post for screenshots ->  showtopic16351
it looks like a great way to easily customize a personal install  - but what are it's limitations? is it limited to only slipstreaming ipks -- or can it write any other files? ie. config files, sizing, etc. .

Has anyone tried this with the last 2.4 release 1.1.0beta3? I would like to at least install Rox so it has a file manager by default. However ... how would I set up my pinboard, etc... automagically through the builder?

Great resource      Thanks

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Dillo Config - Redirect?
« on: July 01, 2006, 09:50:51 am »
I've been out and about travelling for the week ... and I love bringing the zaurus with me to 'play' hoeveer .. i'm having trouble connecting with public APs. I can assocciate (i get a ip through dhcp ... ethereal will dump full packets from inside the network)....  but when I bring up dillo to browse, Ioften get an error solving DNS.

Strange because yesterday I was on a network labled lightlink, wouldn't work .. would ... so it seems like they simply have a filter in place and you have to auth before you can get out into the internet. (most public spot do)  I know for a fact that the user pass is user:user for this network ... but dillo won't forward me to the log-in page. . . .   most public hotspots will shoot you to an authorization page, then bind your mac or something.

I tried dillocfg -- and i didn't see anything about allowing redirects. is there anything I can do so I can get connected and maybe use ipkg to install firefox or something. (even tho I hate that it uses so many resources) .. at least it should redirect correctly, and once i'm authorized I can switch over to dillo for regualr browsing.

has anyone else experienced this?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Slypheed - Inbox To Sd?
« on: June 17, 2006, 07:52:13 pm »
I was looking at the configuration files for my mail client, and i didn't notice an entry that tells it where to download the inbox ....   I would like to store my mail on an SD card so I'm not using up my preciouse internal flash --- I might be able to do it with a symlink ->   but can't I just set up slypheed to dl straight to the Sd card instead of tricking it ?

any tips?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Supernes Emulator - Works Great :)

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Wireless Errors - Linksys Beta3
« on: June 12, 2006, 10:07:01 am »
I have a WCF-12 linksys wireless card ..  which has always been supported very well. However I'm having some troubles with it and pdaXrom ... not sure if it's the card, the hostap drivers, or me though

I'm using the iwconfig commands and kismet to scan for APs - sometimes it's fine, and other times it retruns strange ioctl errors -

Code: [Select]
FATAL: channel get ioctl failed 22: Invalid argument
also got this yesterday for the first time when using cardctl scheme

Code: [Select]
cardctl scheme any
checking: wlan0
changing scheme from 'airpwn' to 'any'
Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A)  :
SET failed on device wlan0; Invalid argument
Error for wireless request "Set Power Manegement" (8B2D)  :
GET failed on device wlan0; Invalid argument
Error for wireless request "Set ESSID" (8B1A)  :
SET failed on device wlan0; Invalid argument
SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such device
Some devices did not start cleanly

My unit has been in suspend since all this happened,  and I was just able to both start kismet and use cardctl scheme to connect to my home network with no errors .. so I don't know why it acts up like that sometimes ... any clues?   what am I doing wrong?

* note -  this is all in the terminal itself - no X windows running

Cxx0 Hardware / Brand New C1000 - Dead? Worked Perfectly
« on: June 07, 2006, 04:18:25 pm »
I just got a brand new C1000 from Price Japan about a week or two ago. I flashed it to pdaXrom (beta 3, so i didnt' change the boot loader with the new u-boot from beta 4)
I put the unit into suspend once I was done playing with it one day.. and stuck it on the charger. (EA-70, from a 5600 for the US 120v) it was there for a day or so, but that shouldn't hurt it ..

now it won't boot up.  Never turns on.   I tried taking the battery out, no go
I tried leaving the battery out for a handful of minuets and hitting the reset switch ... still nothing
I also tried this key combos -

[power] + [ok]
[power] + [d] + [m]
[power] + [func] + [d] + [m]

- what am I missing?

I took out the SD card, thinking maybe somehow it was hanging, the display appears ok, and the power button feels solid. I can feel it clicking down, so I don't think it's physically broken . . .    but what could have possibly happened?? I never dropped it, or damaged it. I flashed weeks ago, and nothing has really changed since then. (normal use, editing files, etc. .    nothing that could stop it from booting, or turning on)

grrr       - what else can I try!?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Wireless Link + Disappearing Panel Icons
« on: June 04, 2006, 09:05:17 pm »
I have a linksys wcf-12 wireless card that seems to be getting *very* low signal from my wireless AP. (it does connect, and does function) .. but only get's maybe 10% signal. (even when in the same room, and I have a +7dbi omni) - something isn't right.  (wep is enabled, is there a bug with encryption overhead?)

This same card worked fine with my 5600 + wapaton, big fat blue singal icons most everyplace in my house -- why is it so low in pdaXrom?

I'm using the default drivers that came with the install. (hostap I belive) I know I was previousley using wlan-ng drivers in Sharp. Is that what is making the difference? This is a very popular card, so I can't imagine it's unsupported.  I've tried difference iw* commands (set sensitivity, etc..) nothing makes a huge difference.

The other problem I've had is that my matchbox panel went blank. All the icons (shell / clock/ menu, etc...) just disappeared one day -  I did recently install Rox, but i seem to remember that it was there after that,  - where does this info live ?   How can I get it back?

ok ... I was able to re-add a new menu icon andclock,etc... by holding the stylus down on the panel and adding them. However when I choose a new terminal ... it doesn`t actually put one there. Doesn`t error, but also doesn`t work ....some little trick I`m missing?

Deals and Great Z Buys / Price Japan
« on: May 31, 2006, 04:42:18 pm »
I had to share my great experience with Price Japan.

First off, I tried used kakaku to order a C-1000 and have it shipped to my g/f who was studying in Japan. Needless to say I couldn't read japanese and mischief ensued .. Then I saw that price Japan would ship internally. I only had 5 days before she left, and she was on a little trip -  so I emailed Kaneda for a price quote and explained the situation ... We sent many emails back and forth ... and I always got a response almost as fast I could type them back.

My C-1000 arrived to her with time to spare. Everything was fine ... I'm very happy I chose to go with them    Now off to flash to pdaXrom

Zaurus - pdaXrom / New C1000 - Beta 3 Location ?
« on: May 31, 2006, 04:29:46 pm »
I just got a new C1000!   I don't think I want to run the experimental beta 4 right now (although have a 2.6 kernel would be great ... I'll wait for it to mature in a few weeks)

I know the last stable release was beta 1,  but I'm fine with an unstable version that  may be newer. . .. however I can't find the download location for beta 3 ... i sit still up?   if so it must have moved with the migration to the new site . . .  if anyone has  a mirror that would be great ... I can't wait to try out this rom!
