Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxrom For C3000 Beta2
« on: January 11, 2006, 11:42:20 am »
Hi,

So here it is, thanks to recent help from iamasmith who fixed out my concerns about power management

pdaXrom for c3000 Beta2

1) Check and decompress the pdaXrom-c3000b2.tgz to your CF or SD card

2) Ensure that your C3000 machine has a standard HD partitioning (e.g. as it was originally), booting may fail if this is not the case

3) Turn the zaurus over and flip the battery case switch to “Unlocked”. Remove the battery cover, and find the small reset microswitch on the left. The battery cover or the stylus can be used to press it.

4) Switch back to locked without puting back the battery cover yet as you'll need to reset again

5) Insert the CF card with the image in the root, as described above.

6) Plug in the AC power jack. The yellow charge lamp must be on indicating external power, or you will get an error message in japanese later.

7) Press the “OK” key and keep it pressed while pressing the “On/Off” button on the front side.

8) The Maintenance Screen will display. Choose “Update” this is item 4.

9) The next screen will ask the source, choose “CF” or "SD".

10) The next screen asks for confirmation, choose1 “Yes” this is the left button

11) now, in the pdaXrom updater menu, choose 6 - "HD Utils(C-3x000 Models only)" then 1 - "Set HD Partitions" This will format your HD and repartition it with only one 4Gb partition

12) Choose 3 - "Go back to main menu"

13 ) Choose 8 - "Restart"

14) restart from 6 to 10

15) Choose option 1 - "Install new ROM"

16) When it ask you if you want to format internal user flash : answer "No"

17) Choose 7 - "Install hdimage (c3000 only)" and wait as it will take a while

18) Choose 8 - Reboot and remove any CF card from your Z

This pivot_root method doesn't support any CF memory card to be inserted during boot time, this is the only "bug" I've found so far ... btw I didn't have much time to test it ...

Et voilà, you're done to test this one

as allways, pleasegive feedback about found bugs and fixings ...

(edit : the restore option from HD Utils don't fit c3100 users yet ... btw tyou can use the set partition option to format your HD to one 4Gb partition if you want , reset may be worling soon)

EDIT : edited instructions : there was an error in the order

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxrom Rc12 For C3000 Beta 1
« on: December 24, 2005, 08:51:29 am »
Hi,

so, finaly I have made it, a fully working pdaXrom for c3000. Btw it's not really finished yet as I still have to finish the c3000 implementation in the pdaXbuilder but I think I'll now take one week of real holidays before finishing that

The Beta can be found Here and here are some instructions :

1) Check and decompress the pdaXrom-c3000.tar.bz2 to your CF or SD card

11) now, in the pdaXrom updater menu, choose option 3 - "NAND Flash utils"

12) choose option 1 - "Resize root partition" and enter 6 (any other value may either not permit flashing or brick your Zaurus)

13) Your Zaurus will then reboot, reset it and restart from steps (5) to (10)

14) Then choose the first option 1 - "Install new ROM"

15) When it ask you if you want to format internal user flash : answer "No"

16) Choose 6 - "Install hdimage (c3000 only)" and wait as it will take a while

17) Finally go back to 3 - "NAND Flash utils" and seect 2 - "Format user Partition"

Et voilà, now you're ready, just reboot with 7 - "Reboot" and enjoy pdaXrom on your c3000

and please give feedbacks about found bugs and method you used to fix them

Cxx0 Hardware / Zaurus Repairal Service ?
« on: December 20, 2005, 09:02:12 pm »
Hi,

My c860 is taking dust for month with it's dead charging circuitry. It's not under warranty anymore and I've bought it in a Taïwan store (Brando) so it won't be very interresting to send it back for repair (I'd have to pay for repair fee + sending it back to japan + sending back the device from japan to france ... better off buying a c1000 from pricejapan for this pricetag) so I'm looking for someone able to repair it (would prefer in Europe not to pay too much for transport) as I don't have skills nor hardware for that ...

Thanks in advance

France / Recherche Quelqu'un Capable De Réparer Un Zaurus
« on: December 20, 2005, 08:54:20 pm »
Bonjour,

Merci d'avance

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Porting Pdaxrom To C3000 ... Quite Close But ...
« on: December 02, 2005, 05:11:09 pm »
Hi,

Long time no post for me here but I've not been inactive and still want a better way to use pdaXrom on my Z

So here I go again, bricking my Z hundreds of times to make it to a real pdaXrom c3000 install ... and I came pretty close to it as I figured out all the mess wih the install script and filesystem splitting etc ... but now I have a problem with the kernel and really need help :
I fisrtly tried to use pdaXrom's c1000 kernel as tetsu's c1000 and c3000 kernels are the same ... with no success : black screen and zaurus not responding
I then tryed tetsu's v18a kernel wich works well for dual booting pdaXrom ... partial success , and that's where I'm stuck
Everything is going fine except ... hdd is not mounting , modprobe /  insmod can't find ide-cs.o module (and I can't find it anywhere either).
And I don't ven understand why is it bugging me out with this module as it don't seem to be present in any kernel nor any rom... btw if anyone knows where I can find an ide-cs.o compiled module for Zaurus kernel 2.4.20 ... (I can't even find it in the modules while doing a D+B boot but hdd mount without a problem in this mode) ...

I'm pretty convinced it's one of the last problems lasting before I can have at least a beta version working of this pdaXrom for c3000

Hope someone will be able to understand my bad english and help me out

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Rc 10 On C3000 With Dual Boot
« on: June 29, 2005, 11:34:06 am »
Ok just managed to have a dual boot on my c3000 with Qtopia and PdaXrom Rc 10
Here's a quick How-To :
1) get the root-akita archive from root-akita-rc10

2) get the gtar package (as tar won't be able to extract with good permissions) and the pivot_root program from the Dual_C760 archive here

3) get the init file from here

4) extract the root of pdaxrom on your hdd3 after reformating it to ext3 following instructions from here

Code: [Select]
bzip2 -d root-akita*
gtar xvpf root-akita*
cd /hdd3/root-akita
cp -a * /hdd3
cd ..
gtar xvpf root/.var*
gtar xvpf root/.home*
gtar xvpf root/.dev*
rm -r tmp
mkdir tmp

5) let's go for the finish line
Code: [Select]
cd to the path where you downloaded and extracted the init script and the pivot_root program
mount -o remount,rw /
rm -f /sbin/init
cp init /sbin
cp /sbin/chroot /hdd3/sbin/
cp pivot_root /sbin/
cp pivot_root /hdd3/sbin/
then you'll have to edit /hdd3/usr/lib/ipkg/info/bluez-utils.postinst and comment the pcmcia restart line

and then ... just reboot and if everything went fine you'll have a menu asking you 1) Qtopia , 2)/dev/hda3 or 3) CF card (yes, it may even be possible to use it from a CF card but I haven't played with it as I haven't a CF card to use for it and I want to use my CF slot for wifi

during first boot it will take time for all the postinstalls process, then ask you for a login, type root, then source /etc/profile and finally mount /dev/pts before startx

DISCLAIMER : ONLY DO THIS IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING, I MAY NOT BE RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR ZAURUS FOLLOWING THESE INSTRUCTIONS blablabla ... these are only instructions that I gathered from lots of different places (including lot of japanese google-translations) to be able to use pdaXrom on my c3000 without chrooting or using vnc

there are a few problems with this method :
1) each time you'll type a command in the console you'll have a message about "using fallback suid method"
2) if your zaurus get into sleep mode the hd spin down and don't seem to be able to recover and you'll need to reboot
3) a few programs are not working (only one I found so far not to work were the OSS mixer)
4) lots of messages during boot time as ldconfig complaining about X libs not being symlinks ... but it don't seem to be a real problem

btw I haven't tested it on a long time so there may be other bugs

maybe someone will be able to figure out a better tutorial out of these infos ... I'm not good at writing long tutorials in english  (and once again these are just info gathered from other forums so maybe someone could make something better out of these ideas )

Hope it will help some people to have pdaXrom working on their c3000 btw ^^

C1000/3x00 General discussions / New Mplayer And Kernel :p
« on: December 23, 2004, 04:59:57 am »
I was googling around, looking for informations on my soon-to-be-received c3000 and just seen there was a new kernel for it with a whole bunch of optimisations by tetsu and a pxa270-optimised mplayer which is under development (btw I haven't been able to find a download link for it but it seem to be working  and it now seem to have better decoding performances than c860 thanks to wMMX optimisations wich are getting supported

Linux Applications / Decoding/encoding Updater.sh
« on: December 23, 2004, 04:49:47 am »
I remember having seen once a script that decode the updater.sh script used to update roms as the updater.sh script for c3000 is available from sharp and as I would now receive my c3000 soon I think I'll try to make my own x11 based rom for it waiting for pdaXrom to be available  (well, going to try compiling my own pdaXrom using the dev kit, the c3000's 2.4.20 kernel and this updater script but I don't know if it need to be modified for that) ... So can someone give me a link to this script please ?

User Request for Applications / Gcc 3.4
« on: December 12, 2004, 03:39:21 pm »
I've read recently that gcc 3.4 have a lot of extra optimisations for xscale arch (and some kind of enhanced software fpu for it) and even for the new "wireless mmx" enabled xscale cpus and was wondering why wouldn't we use it instead od 3.3.2 toolchain ... btw there might be some excellent reason but whhat are these ??

Cxx0 General discussions / Zaurus repairal
« on: July 29, 2004, 09:35:46 am »
So I definitly frown the charging circuit of my poor Z and now come to the big question :
I'm pretty sure repairal won't be covered by warranty as it's entirely my fault (accidentaly reversed polarity from my third party charger), so how much will sharp(brando) charge me for repairal ?
I'm actually thinking about buying an external charger and think I could wait with such a solution 'till I can buy a new Z if repairal cost is too expensive to be interesting (if half the price of a new unit it won't be interresting, better be using this one as a spare unit for testings and buy a new one)

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Battery Useage
« on: June 18, 2004, 11:52:49 am »
I just reinstalled pdaXrom after running cacko 1.21b for a few weeks and noticed the difference in battery useage between these 2 roms ... So I was wondering how can it be that with cacko\'s QT based rom I can use my Z all day long and come back at home with 80% of battery left  and with pdaXrom I get home with sth like 50% (havin just listened a few mp3s during transport times)
Is there any reason why pdaXrom should drain the battery faster than QT ? is this just coming from the music player applet in QT being able to shut off the screen on demand while pdaX shuts it off after 20secs (my settings) ?
Are these 20secs enough to drain ~10% of my battery life each time I switch the diplay on and off ? another thing is ... while using the pda and listening music under pdaXrom i can see the battery gauge going down at , like 1% per minute while under cacko\'s QT rom it will lose 1% every 10 minutes or so ...
anyone have an idea about it ?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Handwriting ?
« on: June 16, 2004, 06:58:13 pm »
Ok I have it for weeks in my sign but still did\'nt asked ...
Well ... I\'m not a linux guru and I bought my Z thinking I would perfectionate by using linux everytime ... what I did , BUT , a major problem for me in the x11 roms is the lack of any handwriting app ... So I wonder if there is any opensource handwriting app which can be ported to work with pdaXrom ? or even something like FreeNoteQt as the touchscreen is good enough for me to re-read myself ?
