Zaurus - pdaXrom / What's The Best Choice While Waiting For Pdaxrom 2?
« on: November 12, 2007, 12:16:36 am »
Hi everyone, I've been away for a while, and was never a big poster, and I just realized: I haven't been to these forums in ages.  Why?  Because pdaXII13 has been so good to me, and I've been busy with school.

Now I find myself back in the normal groove of things, wondering how much more I can squeeze out of my Z (It's been serving mostly as an mp3 player, web browser and ssh client), and what the best ROM to put on it is.  I've been using pdaX or some variation there of since I got my 860, and the trend has continued with my 3200.  Is pdaXii still the way to go, or have the Rxxx releases matured?  I don't mind betas (I've been using Zaurii for about 3 years now, I guess that goes without saying), and I would love to contribute in any way I can, but I do need a certain level of functionality.

Thanks for reading a long winded post!

C1000/3x00 Hardware / C3200 Overclocking Effects?
« on: April 25, 2007, 08:14:43 am »
I'm curious, for those who overclock their C3200s...what speed do you use, and what side effects are there?  Does it generate considerably more heat, or is it just a battery drain?  Have you had any stability problems?

I saw an older topic from when the device first came out, and I thought it might just be easier to start a new thread for anyone else wondering the same things I am.

C1000/3x00 General discussions / C3200 Cases
« on: April 23, 2007, 07:19:20 pm »
I'm not a big fan of the flip style cases that basically just clip onto the outside of the Zaurus.  I have a Palmpal nylon case intended for the 860 size models (from conics, they no longer have them), which is okay for my 3200, but I'd like something a little better.

This is the case I'm currently using:

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Snes9x?

Does anyone have a link to Snes9x package for beta3?  Or one that is compatible with pdaXii13.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / New C3200 Owner
« on: April 11, 2007, 03:37:27 pm »
Well, my conics.net C3200 just came in, I'm downloading pdaXii13 as we speak, and copying all my own little tweaks and configurations from my 860 to a SD card.  This will be my third Zaurus (the fist being a 5500 that ran OZ), I know enough to admit I know nothing about this model, and ask for advice and warnings.

My planned setup is to keep my 1 GB SD card and use the CF slot exclusively for wireless.  I think 7 gigs should be more than enough storage.  However, this is where the performance questions come up.  Should I install packages to internal flash, the internal drive, or SD?  It's a SanDisk Ultra II, if the Zaurus bus can actually utilize the increased speed.

Basically, for those of you short in attention span or patience: what should I install (and how/where), what should I avoid doing, and what do I need to know about the 3200?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Quick Kismet Question
« on: December 02, 2006, 11:24:45 pm »
I'm running Beta 1 on my C860 with a Socket low power Wifi card, it works fine for networking but I can't seem to get Kismet working.  The problem is kismet no longer has a list of sources in the config file like it did last time I set it up.

Anyone have the list, or know the source name for a symbol card?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Uboot Fails To Install
« on: November 11, 2006, 06:28:27 pm »
I've tried installing uboot several times now, and I can't figure out what's going wrong.

I bring up the normal japanese service menu (battery unlock, ok, lock, on), update from my 128 mb CF card.  The japenese boot menu pops up, the screen fills with "Writing [hex address], then freezes on "Rebooting the system..."

I've tried waiting various amounts of time, and it never leaves the screen.  I pull the power and battery, and the Z is bricked.  I have to restore the NAND from a backup.

Any insight?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / 860 Bricked By Uboot?
« on: October 10, 2006, 04:11:24 pm »
I've been running pdaXrom on my 860 since I got it, and I absolutely love this distro.  That being said, after running on an older version for a while I finally decided to upgrade.

I put uboot on a 128mb CF card, went through the install, and then my 860 wouldn't shut down properly.  It just locked up at "The system is powered off" with the backlight somewhat off.  I pulled the AC and battery out, it booted into uboot's emergency mode.  After I tried the reboot command it locked on shut down again, and I pulled the AC and battery again.

Now my 860 won't power on, the power light won't even turn on with the AC in.  I know the cord is working (I tried it on my old 5500), and I have no reason to believe the batteries have suddenly gone bad.  If I remove the battery and plug in AC power, the light will blink on, then off again.

D+M power on doesn't seem to work, nor does OK + power on.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Sound Driver Issues?
« on: February 27, 2006, 02:58:56 am »
I've been using pdaXrom since RC5, and I really love it.  However, it seems like each and every RC has some very strange sound dirver bugs, with the new beta being the worst off.

I use my C860 for surfing the web, checking my email, etc.  It performs all of these tasks extremely well for such a small device.  However, when I try to use it as an mp3 player the same problem always comes up.

I open XMMS, set the screen blanker applet to disable suspend, blank the screen and close the clamshell.  As soon as two minutes later, the device will freeze.  It normally takes a few presses of the power button to get it back on. (power button, tap the screen, repeat)  At which point I recieve an error message from XMMS, and can't play any music until I reboot the device (not just X).

Has anyone else had this problem?  Have I been making some silly mistake this entire time?

Just to be clear, I'm using a C860 with beta RC1,  256 SD card and a 512 SanDisk CF.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Odd Behavior
« on: February 28, 2005, 06:27:24 pm »
So, I'm compiling pine right now, mostly for pico (yes, I know nano is in IPK form and is much more lightweight, etc).  I've learned by now that it's best to just leave X and run it that way, but now my mail llight is blinking.  I have a C860, pdaXrom RC9.  I did have a weird crash beforehand compiling screen, but...this has never happened before.

Any ideas?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Games On Pdaxrom
« on: February 09, 2005, 03:22:55 pm »
First of all, this isn't a complaint thread.

I was wondering how Quake was ported to pdaXrom, and how feasible it would be to bring other old games to the platform.  For instance, Warcraft or Starcraft.  I realize that space is a huge issue, but I ran Starcraft on a 133mhz/32mb laptop back in the day, so I don't see why the hardware couldn't handle it.

Of course, I do realize that SC and WC are both windows games, but wasn't Quake too?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Compiling Problems...
« on: February 01, 2005, 04:39:32 am »
Hi all, I'm a bit of a Linux noob so please bare with me.

I just upgraded to RC9 from RC8, and this problem is persistent.  I have had a shell on a friend of mine's machine for a while, so there are some command line programs I have become quite fond of.  Pico is one of them (I was able to compile this with no problems since RC5, and had no problems on RC9), as is screen (which would not compile properly on RC8, but does on RC9).  The last program on my (for now) short list of desired command line programs is epic.  I know bitchx is availible, but I am very, very stubborn.

When I try to compile epic (after running configure, mounting the dev img and trying "make") everything seems to compile fine up until dcc.c.  I don't really know how to copy the output from the terminal (I was told to select it, and then right click, which did not work), but the errors came from undefine functions (I think) withint dcc.c.  If anyone else could test or confirm this, or even tell me how to get output from the terminal that would be great.
