Zaurus - pdaXrom / Deleting Spy.org Archive
« on: February 23, 2007, 11:14:59 am »
hi --

there are a lot of old[er] files on zaurus.spy.org -- and I am wondering if they're really all
that useful anymore -- even for archival purposes.

I'm debating removing most of the zaurus archives.  I'm watching accesses for
the various pages, and it's usually very light -- >90% of accesses are for
screen background images.

There are files like 1.0.5, 1.1.0, multiple releases from 2004
when it seemed like there was a major release every two weeks,
beta1/beta2/beta3, rc12, etc...

I know it's difficult to tell what's listed just by dirnames -- but if there's any interest at all,
I could do a ls -R and post that (large) file.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Any Hope?
« on: October 29, 2006, 12:11:46 pm »
I've been following the reports about recent releases and the 760 -- all reports are depressing and dismal.

Is there any hope for a consolidated *new* release that works on *all* C or later models?

Also, it seems like the installation method has recently become more complicated and risky.

What's going on?  It seems like development / releases have come to a near complete stand-still.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Hitachi Microdrive
« on: October 12, 2005, 06:57:45 pm »
ok, I decided I needed more space on my zaurus and I wanted to have swap, etc... so I broke down and bought a microdrive (6GB).

I have model:  HMS360606D5CF00

I'm wondering if there is any issue putting a new filesystem on this thing.
Do people recommend ext2? etc.  I know some SD cards seemed to get cranky
when changed from FAT32 to another FS, but that's also another technology.

Who else has hitachi microdrives and what are your experiences?

X/Qt / Help With How To Distribute
« on: June 16, 2005, 03:57:05 pm »
Hi --

I have a basic app that I'd like to distribute.  It's C++/Qt -- but I don't know much about the distribution side of things -- I'm use to the other side with installing, etc.

I have a program that I would like to have read a text file from certain dirs, and perhaps have a default read location -- but have that not be hard coded... next, I'd like to have images read the same.

For instance, say I have text file 1,2,3 and images i1, i2 and i3... when someone types "make install" -- where will they go -- and if this can be user-defined -- how will my code know where to look?  finally, I'd like to make an Icon and things like that for pdaXrom...

Any help, pointers, suggestions, URLs... would be great.

Thank you.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Native -- C++ / Qt
« on: March 28, 2005, 09:44:27 am »
Hi --

I have successfully used the SDK to compile programs on an x86 for the zaurus...
but I would like to compile programs natively on the zaurus.

Has anyone managed to do this with programs that use Qt?

ie: Is there anyone out there with a working native SDK?

Site Suggestions, Requests, and Updates / Forum Post Order
« on: February 13, 2005, 11:24:50 am »
I admit, I might not be good with the search -- but I didn't find any posts about this.
If you can find one, please let me know how you did it.

---

I am looking for the forum to show me forum topics with new posts.. and then have these
listed with the most recent post at the top.

As it is now, I have gaps in the topics where there are no new posts -- and I have to do a
lot of scrolling to make sure that I have seen all new posts, etc.

Doesn't this seem like common sense?

Is there anyway to set a "sort" or "display" so that I see topics
with new posts first (and then in reverse time/date order)?

Thanks.

Sharp ROMs / Cacko 1.22 Runs Slower And Slower?!
« on: January 25, 2005, 10:57:07 am »
I hope this isn't a FAQ somewhere --

I have cacko 1.22 on a c700 ... but I find that the system runs slower
and slower and I asically have to pull the battery.  It gets to the point
where if I click on the menu button in the lower right -- it can take 20,
25 or even more seconds... before I hear the beep for the click.

I test by loading kino in an attempt to play an mp3 (which it won't) ...
but then even if I kill kino, the system is so slow, I have to reboot.

Does anyone else have 1.22 on a c700 and have this problem?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Tcc Base + Include Cramfs (squashfs?)
« on: December 31, 2004, 04:26:04 pm »
Hi --

Anyone have a link on how to do cramfs and/or squashfs (for pdaXrom)?

Which is beter, cramfs or squashfs?  sq looks like it might be better
compression -- but does this come at the price of compatibility and cpu
speed?

I'd like to make a cramfs, say, 300 mb, but if I only put 20 MB in it -- will
it only be the compression size of that 20mb (should be 95-98% for
the text that I want...) plus some cramfs overhead?

I want to put all the .h files into a cramfs so this can be mounted and added to...
and then use tcc to run simple c programs -- including gtk c progs, etc.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / pdaXrom on c series -- but use 320x240 hardware ..
« on: October 12, 2004, 03:03:34 pm »
Hi -- I tried searching, but I didn't get any search results.
If anyone can search and find anything, please let me know what you did to
search --

I'm wondering -- is it possible to launch a program with pdaXrom that changes the screen res to 320x240 -- is ther hardware acceleration to do this?

The idea would be to run mame in that mode, vs using the scale2x which is VERY
slow..  or the mixed/fractional (ie: -output fullscreen) which is even slower.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / APP WISH LIST FOR NEW PDAXROM
« on: June 27, 2004, 05:02:03 pm »
I'll start:

I'd like to see a native, non-cramfs sdk.... even if it's 150mb.  I'd like to see it have
gcc 3.3.x (and perhaps even 2.95).

A relatively decent/recent java + sdk.

nethack + qt support (ie: not just ascii or x nethack)

angband *and* zangband ... these seem to want to compile a lua (tolua?) and then
exec this during compile -- the cross compiler confuses this process -- hence the
desire for a native sdk, etc.

non-busybox implementations of each of the busybox apps.

man pages for all apps.

latest xfce (4.0.5?) + goodies.

xscreensaver + hacks

I'm sure I'll think of more...
