For Sale / Wanted / Free Sl-6000l W. Extras Available To A Developer
« on: April 06, 2008, 06:16:27 pm »
I'm offering my Zaurus SL-6000L (tosa) for free...with one condition. I'm seeking a developer who can help me with some updates to the KDEPIMPI package, particularly with cosmetic changes for the Nokia Internet Tablet (Maemo) platform, and possibly with updating the package to Qt4. The package is written in C++ and the Qt3 libraries. The initial round of changes are probably very simple for an experienced developer, and will attract a lot of users to a terrific piece of software.

The SL-6000 was in fine working condition when I last used it about 3 months ago. It includes all original hardware (screen cover, charger/sync stand, the covers for the sync ports & CF slot, the original manual & software). I'll throw in a CF ethernet card, a couple of SD and CF cards, a few extra stylii, and a USB adapter.

If you're interested, and you have demonstrated development experience, please contact me directly via e-mail: SL600@merctech.com

Feel free to forward this offer to people who may be qualified and interested.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Timezone Updates For Oz?
« on: February 22, 2007, 11:30:57 am »
Will there be an updated timezones ipkg to address the change in the US switch to daylight savings time in March?

As a side note, I have seen very, very few updates to OZ since 3.5.4.2 was released....can anyone provide information on the overall level of development, and future of this release?

I'm running OZ/Opie 3.5.4.2-rc2 on a SL6000.  With the exception of a few missing applications, support for my external keyboard,  and some minor bugs, I'm tremendously pleased with this release, and appreciative of the people who put in the time and effort.

Thanks,

Mark

Has anyone compiled symlinks (symbolic link maintenance utility), as in:

     http://www.die.net/doc/linux/man/man8/symlinks.8.html

for the Zaurus? Given that the Sharp ROM image is hideous mess of symbolic links, and that it only gets worse if you move $HOME or applications to external memory, and worse still if you install ipkgs to external memory and then symlink them back to the internal filesystem, this could be a very useful utility.

You can find the lovely source code at:

     http://packages.debian.org/stable/source/symlinks

Thanks,

Mark

Sharp ROMs / Pcnet_cs Driver Needed For Trendnet Te-cf100
« on: November 27, 2005, 12:45:23 pm »
Hello,

I've got a TRENDnet TE-CF100 wired ethernet card that I'm trying to use on my SL-6000, with the original Sharp ROM and kernel version 2.4.18-rmk7-pxa3-embedix. I believe that I need the pcnet_cs.o kernel module, compiled for this kernel.

I've used this card on the same Zaurus under OE, but the pcnet_cs.o driver seems to be missing from the Sharp ROM distribution. I've added an entry to /etc/pcmcia/config, and  the card is recognized, but it's not usable:

Code: [Select]
# cardctl ident
Socket 0:
product info: "Fast Ethernet", "CF Size PC Card", "1.0"
  manfid: 0x0149, 0xc1ab
  function: 6 (network)

# cardctl status
Socket 0:
  3.3V 16-bit PC Card [suspended]

# ifconfig eth0
eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:E0:98:F5:18:4D
          BROADCAST MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1
          RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:100
          RX bytes:0 (0.0 b)  TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)
          Interrupt:43 Base address:0x300

# ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 up
SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such device
SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such device

#dmesg
eth0: NE2000 (DL10022 rev 05): io 0xf6000300, irq 43, hw_addr 00:E0:98:F5:18:4D
pxa_pcmcia_suspend(0)
pxa_pcmcia_init(0)

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Mark

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Unzip Broken In Oe 3.5.3
« on: June 30, 2005, 12:29:22 pm »
The unzip package seems to have been built for the wrong architecture. Attempting to run the binary gives the error: "cannot execute binary file".

Running the file(1) command on /usr/bin/unzip reports:
Code: [Select]
ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.2.5, dynamicallt linked (uses shared libs), stripped
The unzip.control file from the .ipk says:
Code: [Select]
Package: unzip
Version; 55l-r0

General Discussion / Irk Under Oz 3.5.3 + Opie?
« on: June 20, 2005, 03:54:57 pm »
I've got an SL-6000 running OZ 3.5.3 and Opie, and I'm trying to get IRK working so that I can use a Pocketop keyboard.

I've installed various irk packages (one at a time, removing the previous attempt), and each time the installation seems to go fine--the package is in the ipkg list, the library /opt/QtPalmtop/plugins/inputmethods/libirk.so is installed, and OZ restarts.

However, there's no new input method for the IRK (a kangaroo shaped icon), and seemingly no way to turn IRK on/off.

Does the appearance of the IRK input method controller depend on the ircomm/irda/irserial/irtty kernel modules being loaded and on the serial port being set up correctly?

For anyone with working IRK under OZ/Opie:
What kernel modules are loaded and what's your IR & "serial port" config?

Thanks,

Mark

Has anyone compiled RCS for the zaurus? I think it's almost indispensible for managing any system.

Hello,

I'd be very grateful if anyone could compile 2 currency exchange packages and one world timezones clock for OZ (3.5.3). I feel that these are basic applications for a PDA, but I haven't found any for OZ. The two I've found (fxconv and ttbureaudechange) require the Sharp compatability libraries, but they each show errors.

The "fxconv" package has a nice looking interface, and good support for downloading currency table updates. The source code can be found at:
     http://free.pages.at/uberger/zaurus/fxconv_en.html

Regarding recompilation, the author stated:
I think, the problem is the incompatibility of the softfloat library and the
floating point calls generated by gcc 2.95. The conversion of the external
ascii exchange rates to the internal floating point format seems to fail.
It looks like the compatibility libraries cannot handle this problem.

The only solution I see is to recompile FXConv for OZ/Opie. Unfortunately I
don't have a OZ/Opie development system. If you are able to compile, you have
to create the QubLib as first. Look at the qublib.pro and fxconv.pro files
and set the environment variables as necessary. My settings are

              QUBDIR=/home/devel
              QUBLIB=QubLibZ.a
              QPELIB=-lqpe
              QDEVEL_DEFS=QPE_ARM_APP

You have to copy (or link) the QubLib header files to $QUBDIR/include
and the created qublib.a to $QUBDIR/lib/$QUBLIB.

Another currency converter is ttbureaudechange:

              http://www.vanstrien.net/zaurus/ttbureaudechange/

Also at that site is a world clock:
