I upload it here: https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?s=&...st&p=177780

Enjoy~

Many, many thanks for this. After about 5 years using the Zaurus, depending on kdepimpi, I recently switched to the Nokia N810 running Maemo. With a lot of help, I did a half-hearted port of kdepimpi (2.7) to the Nokia, but it never worked corectly.

Your package installs fairly easily on the Nokia tablet (once the libqt3 dependency is met), and works much, much better.

See this thread on the Internet Tablet Talk forums for more details,

Software / Is Kde Pim/pi Dead?

I'm really happy to hear that the project isn't dead, and that there's a new version available!

I've taken his changes, and released a [very beta] version of KDEPIMPI for the Nokia Internet Tablet (the successor to my Zaurus SL6000). This version has some rough edges, and contains no substantial changes over the 2.2.7 release, but it does work on both the desktop and Nokia Tablet. The source code is available at the Maemo Garage website for KDEPIMPI. The code needs some changes make it fully workable on the Nokia Tablet. Once that happens, there will be a new group of users and potential developers to support the project.

I think we should avoid forks here. Is it ok to send your patch to Zautrix or ask Zautrix to add you to the sourceforge project.
Absolutely! I agree on both points. I did not want to fork kdepimpi...in fact, I've tried to get in touch with Zautrix before I set up the Maemo Garage site.

I would be very happy to contribute my mimimal changes back to the main source code branch...though Michael Krelin did most of the work, including an angstrom port.

Ideally, we can continue this via email. I'd like to discuss the details of getting the code from the Maemo Garage site back to the sourceforge site directly with Zautrix.

For the record, I'm also interested in the KDEPIMPI development. And I will try keep it up-to-date in Angstrom.

reposted reply due to utterly mangled formatting in the first attempt.

I had some contact with the author, zautrix, a.k.a. Lutz Rogoswki, shortly before he stopped the development. I have discussed many ideas for improvements and also some bugs with him, and he announced new versions, even with better Outlook sync capabilitities. Unfortunately, something made him stop the further development. There must be some new code for Outlook sync in his hands, but he never released it :-(

Could you please send me Lutz Rogoswki's contact info privately ? I've tried to reach him several times about the project.

So my point of view is that developemnt is dead currently.
Not entirely dead. I'm maintaining a site for updating KDEPIMPI and porting it
to the Nokia Internet Tablet
Linux distribution.

I am offering a free SL-6000L with many accessories to help interest a developer in the project.

Michael Klever made some changes to KDEPIMPI, including getting it into the bitbake build mechanism used by Angstrom.

For Sale / Wanted / Free Sl-6000l W. Extras Available To A Developer
« on: April 06, 2008, 06:16:27 pm »
I'm offering my Zaurus SL-6000L (tosa) for free...with one condition. I'm seeking a developer who can help me with some updates to the KDEPIMPI package, particularly with cosmetic changes for the Nokia Internet Tablet (Maemo) platform, and possibly with updating the package to Qt4. The package is written in C++ and the Qt3 libraries. The initial round of changes are probably very simple for an experienced developer, and will attract a lot of users to a terrific piece of software.

The SL-6000 was in fine working condition when I last used it about 3 months ago. It includes all original hardware (screen cover, charger/sync stand, the covers for the sync ports & CF slot, the original manual & software). I'll throw in a CF ethernet card, a couple of SD and CF cards, a few extra stylii, and a USB adapter.

If you're interested, and you have demonstrated development experience, please contact me directly via e-mail: SL600@merctech.com

Feel free to forward this offer to people who may be qualified and interested.

General Discussion / Gtd With Ko/pi
« on: June 15, 2007, 12:26:16 pm »
I haven't used GTD, but I've found that the strategies in "Time Managment for System Adminstrators" are terrific.

As a long-time KO/PI user, I wish that there were a few more features that would enhance time management:

[1] A way to assign duration values for "ToDo" items, without assigning a specif block of time. For
example, "Task A" would be assigned "2 hours", rather than scheduled for a specific time.

[2] A scheduler mechanism, so that KO/PI can dynamically create a list of tasks, weighted by
priority, to fit into a block of time.

For example, for "ToDo" items in the category "Work", fit as many items as possible within
an 8-hour weekday block of time, weighted by item priority.

I'm very interested in hearing any strategies to accomplish this kind of scheduling within KO/PI as it is.

I would be very happy to provide a free copy of Tom Limoncelli's excellent Time Management book to anyone who's interested in hacking KO/PI to add these features.

Thanks,

Mark

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Timezone Updates For Oz?
« on: February 22, 2007, 11:30:57 am »
Will there be an updated timezones ipkg to address the change in the US switch to daylight savings time in March?

As a side note, I have seen very, very few updates to OZ since 3.5.4.2 was released....can anyone provide information on the overall level of development, and future of this release?

I'm running OZ/Opie 3.5.4.2-rc2 on a SL6000.  With the exception of a few missing applications, support for my external keyboard,  and some minor bugs, I'm tremendously pleased with this release, and appreciative of the people who put in the time and effort.

Thanks,

Mark

Have you ever played/Do you want to play the rougelike/nethack games -- the kings of RPG ever -- on Zaurus?

How about a dedicated thread to these games?

I don't really want to make it yet another hacker/developer thread, but instead I wonder if it would be nice for us to:

1) Gather links to resources, reviews, and perhaps even spoilers2) Announce new Zaurus packages
3) Share gaming experience
4) Discuss runtime and compilation issues
5) Request packages and make a wishlist

So what do you think?

Excellent idea.

Any chance of [re] compiling nethack for the current release of Opie/OZ (3.5.4.x)? I'm running 3.5.4.2-rc2 on my SL6000, and I really do miss nethack.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Posts Moved From 3.5.4.x Upgrades
« on: October 10, 2006, 02:36:24 pm »
[span style=\'font-size:14pt;line-height:100%\']Overall[/span], this release is extrememly good--it's much more stable than the SharpROM release that I was running, and much faster. It looks very good, and most of the applications that I use are available. It's great to see that there's such active development for the Zaurus, I'd like to thank everyone that's helped contribute to this release.

The altboot package is absolutely terrific! I'm using a 1GB SD card as my root directory, and it works flawlessly. On the Sharp ROM I had a horrible spaghetti mess of symlinks to get something similar that never worked as well. This is a huge improvement.

[span style=\'font-size:14pt;line-height:100%\']My configuration:[/span]
    Zaurus SL6000-L (tosa)
    OZ/Opie 3.5.4.2
    Linux pimento 2.6.17 #1 PREEMPT Fri Jun 30 08:43:48 CEST 2006 armv5tel unknown

[span style=\'font-size:14pt;line-height:100%\']Now for the bugs & observations & requests...[/span]

wireless
I have been unable to connect to any wireless network (with or without WEP). I
can establish an 802.11b connection (the iwconfig program reports that the Zaurus
is associated with the desired wlan), but udhcpc never gets an
address. The networks I've tried work correctly with many other clients, and I've
tried establishing connections with the Network Settings applet, using ifup, using ifconfig and iwconfig, etc.

opie PIN authentication
it's inconsistent...sometimes the screen locks properly, sometimes the screen is
not locked after the Zaurus suspends (either manually or by timing out and
        auto-suspending)

if it's successful, why prompt with "enter opie" and "another try" options--
        this doesn't make sense

suspending the Zaurus should _always_ cause it to lock the screen

putting the Zaurus in the cradle should not bypass the authentication (ie., if
it's screen locked, it should remain that way when inserted in the cradle)

zsafe
suspending the Zaurus should _always_ cause it to lock the application, returning
to the zsafe password prompt upon "resume". This is the behavior on the desktop,
        and under the Sharp ROM.

keyboard
the "numlock" sequence [Fn][Num] doesn't work (the "N" symbol appears on the
taskbar, but the keys don't produce numbers

        [Fn][Space} doesn't produce the pipe (|) character

the key repeat rate is too fast

the [Fn] key is not sticky

buttons
On my 6000, there doesn't seem to be a way to map the button with the "dot"
        (above the [Cancel] button)

froot
related to other issues with mapping buttons, the button in the middle of the
directional (arrow) ring doesn't send the [SPACE] character

konsole (opie-embeddedkonsole) doesn't run--the icon appears on the taskbar, but the
        application doesn't launch.

KOPI
with the kopi-alarm applet in use, the alarm correctly wakes up the
        zaurus, but the

screen brightness (backlight)
the screen is always at full brightness--it doesn't dim when the Zaurus is running
off the battery. The brightness slider on the taskbar or the "Light and Power"
settings applet has no effect. The option to dim the screen when running on
        battery has no effect.

[span style=\'font-size:14pt;line-height:100%\']Missing Applications[/span]
These are applications that I used often under the Sharp ROM. I
understand that running Sharp apps is no longer possible due to the
soft-float issue, but I'd really like to see these applications--or
programs with equivalent functionality--available for OZ/Opie:

                Opera
I found Opera to do a very good job at dealing with
the screen size on the Zaurus, managing bookmarks,
                        etc.

                ethereal

                kgrok
it was great to be able to use the same database (flat
file + forms) on my desktop & Zaurus
                                http://www.bitrot.de/pda_kgrok.html

                eLog
a terrific tool for maintaining electronic log books,
                        with synchronization capabilities between different
installations. Again, I miss the ability to use the
same tools on my PDA and server/desktop
                                http://midas.psi.ch/elog/download.html

                T&T Bureau de Change
                FXConv
two different programs to display currency
conversions. I consider these essential when
traveling--they can download updated currency rates
from the internet. I understand that they depend on
floating point handling found on the Sharp ROM, but
I'd really love to see a port to OZ or a program of
                        equivalent function.
                                http://free.pages.at/uberger/zaurus/fxconv_en.html
                                http://www.vanstrien.net/zaurus/ttbureaudechange/

                T&T World CLock
A clock, displaying time in different cities. More
convenient than the "City Time" applet.
                                http://www.vanstrien.net/zaurus/ttworldclock/index.html

                lep-gen
One-time password generator, compatible with S/Key.
This was invaluable as a means of generating a secure,
one-time password when logging into my account from an
untrusted remote machine (such as in a cyber-cafe).
                                http://www.ima.umn.edu/~pliam/lepgen/

                nethack
it would be fun to have this compiled for OZ. The
                        Sharp version works surprisingly well.

Hi

They have now.

Many thanks!

It is posted [a href=\"http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/drahthaar/Z/symlinks_arm.ipk]HERE[/url] on my site, installed on my C860 and works.

It works fine on my SL6000 (Sharp ROM).

The size should be 165047 bytes.  If it does not install or is reported as invalid format, check the downloaded size you have.
See my other posts re browsers which pad out downloads and corrupt .ipks
(Firefox and Mozilla do this, Konqueror appears not to)

Interesting...It downloaded fine for me, and I've never seen Firefox or Mozilla (or any other browser) under Linux pad downloads and corrupt an ipk or any other file.

The only note I've got is that the file was automatically uncompressed by Firefox....the resulting file (with the name unchanged) is a valid tar file, but is not recognized by ipkg, which expects a gzip-compressed tar archive. This isn't file corruption, but it may be an unexpected side-effect from some browsers (depending on their configuration).

Has anyone compiled symlinks (symbolic link maintenance utility), as in:

     http://www.die.net/doc/linux/man/man8/symlinks.8.html

for the Zaurus? Given that the Sharp ROM image is hideous mess of symbolic links, and that it only gets worse if you move $HOME or applications to external memory, and worse still if you install ipkgs to external memory and then symlink them back to the internal filesystem, this could be a very useful utility.

You can find the lovely source code at:

Sharp ROMs / Pcnet_cs Driver Needed For Trendnet Te-cf100
« on: November 27, 2005, 12:45:23 pm »
Hello,

I've got a TRENDnet TE-CF100 wired ethernet card that I'm trying to use on my SL-6000, with the original Sharp ROM and kernel version 2.4.18-rmk7-pxa3-embedix. I believe that I need the pcnet_cs.o kernel module, compiled for this kernel.

I've used this card on the same Zaurus under OE, but the pcnet_cs.o driver seems to be missing from the Sharp ROM distribution. I've added an entry to /etc/pcmcia/config, and  the card is recognized, but it's not usable:

Code: [Select]

General Discussion / Buy For U.s And Use On Trip To Europe?
« on: August 04, 2005, 05:23:18 pm »
I recently returned from a few weeks in Europe. I took my SL-6000 with me. I don't have a modem for it (and it's not built in), but I did find wireless access in a number of places in Italy, Switzerland, France, and Russia. There's some free wireless, but not as much as in the US. Try universities... I had no trouble with wireless via $wiss Telecom too.

You'll need to bring an adapter for the charger, and you should be very comfortable with the device before you travel, unless you want to turn your vacation into an extended session of debugging and configuring your new computer.

I'd strongly suggest getting a couple of large (512MB~1GB) compact flash cards, and "pre-loading" them with all the IPK files from whatever distribution you choose, as well as new ROM images. This will let you rebuild your machine or reinstall apps even if you don't have a connection.

Keep in mind that if you're using dial-up network acces, you'll need an account with a provider that's got a presence in Europe, and that "Europe" isn't just one country...
