Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxrom Needs A Better Music Player!
« on: February 16, 2006, 05:59:48 pm »
One thing that I really miss from the Cacko Rom is the Sharp music player.  I really prefer the iPod-ish database style interface and I was wondering if we could get something similar on pdaXrom.

The two candidates I was looking at were Rhythmbox and AmaroK.  Basically I'm looking for a player which will let me find music by artist, album, genre, etc. Oh and it needs to do a decent job of running full screen rather that as a tiny little window.

Does anyone have experience of either of these two (I don't have access to a big Linux box at the moment to try them myself) or any other player which might be suitable.

Also, I would be interested in opinions on how much work they would be to port (something I'm fairly new to)?   I think at the moment that Rhythmbox would be easier (need to port GStreamer too) but I'd appreciate any comment.

(Once I get an mp3 player sorted out then I only need to persuade Maslovsky to port Kino2 and everything will be peachy   )

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Packaging Ruby And Svn
« on: February 16, 2006, 05:38:05 pm »
I've built Ruby 1.8.4 and SVN 1.1.4 and they both seem to be working great.  I've even managed to get Rails installed via gem.  Nice

These are the first packages that I've built for pdaXrom and it seemed very easy but packaging them up is proving to be a bit of a problem though.  I'm getting the following:-

Code: [Select]
tar: --exclude=CONTROL: Cannot stat: No Such file or directory
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

As far as I can tell the control file looks ok.  I've been following the been following the tutorial for making ipkgs but I could do with a few more pointers.  Any ideas on what I should try checking next?  If the problem is definetly with the control file I think I'll just start from scratch again....

Zaurus - pdaXrom / A Few Questions About Appearance...
« on: September 23, 2005, 10:05:26 am »
Apologies if the answers to these questions are buried in the forum somewhere but I couldn't find them.

1.  I'd like to change the size of the scroll bars used under PdaXrom.  Is this possible?  I had a little nose around to see if I could find any config files with this in but alas I failed.

2.  Going one stage further is it possible to skin the screen widgets under PdaXrom, to resemble Cacko 1.22 for example?  I realise that this might not be to everyone's taste but if you could give me some pointers I could post the results up to the forum.  Would I need to change window managers to do this?

If this sort of stuff is held in a set of man pages/info/FAQ list somewhere then a link would be great.

3.  Slightly more ambitious but how hard would it be to edit the source code to abiword to reduce the size of the file/open dialogue so that it fits completely on to the screen?  Surely it's only a simple change (famous last words....) as the contents of the dialogue look like they would fit within 640x480.  I'm a Java developer but it looks like I'd better learn C++ if I want to contribute to Zaurus software.

Cheers,

Since, I'm not using the Document tab, is there a way to hide it from view altogether?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Moving To Oz From Cacko
« on: May 05, 2005, 07:17:38 am »
Hi,

I'm thinking of trying out OZ again as I haven't used it in a while and it seems to be coming on in leaps and bounds.

However, after looking at the release notes and the forum I have a few questions about partitioning.  I'm currently running Cacko 1.22a so I guess I need to, some how, get back to Sharp's original partitioning layout.

The suggested way is to do a Sharp NAND restore.  So far I haven't found a NAND backup anywhere for a C860 could someone post a link if this is the only way to do it?

However,  NAND restores worry me a little.   Is there another, less drastic, way I could change the partitioning?

Cheers,

ltrm.
