Zaurus - pdaXrom / Rox Keeps Reverting Backdrop On Screen Rotation
« on: June 25, 2007, 07:39:00 am »
Hello all,

ROX on pdaxii13 with xfce4 (SL-C3100)  keeps reverting to its default backdrop (the one defined as default with "rox-bset"), which resides in /usr/share/pixmaps/Wallpapers/background.png.

I can change the background graphically (ideally, I'd like no background at all), but the rotation mechanism keeps changing it back. I removed the line about rox-bg in the /etc/sysconfig/clamshell/scripts.d/x11scr script (which calls rox-bset with either the -portrait or -landscape option), but I keep missing something.

Is there a way to tell rox not to use any background at all? There must be a system-wide configuration option somewhere. Deleting the background.png gives me a very annoying error message each time I rotate the screen.

Alternatively, where else might rox-bg be called upon rotation?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Shopping List Application
« on: May 15, 2007, 02:39:05 am »
Hello all,

I've searched quite unsuccessfully for a shopping list application for pdaXrom. You know, something where you select items from a previously created list you need to shop and tick them off as you load them into the cart.

There are several such applications for OpenZaurus, mostly based on xml. But if I'm correct then OZ-applications are QT, which doesn't run on pdaXrom. A Gtk-application should run, shouldn't it?

Does anyone know of such an application for pdaXrom?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Rotate.sh Ceased Working
« on: March 27, 2007, 09:10:46 am »
Hello all,

not having used the portrait mode for a while (Borzoi, pdaxii13 with openbox and ROX), I noticed that the screen is no longer rotated. I'm pretty sure it worked before, but I might have changed something I'd better had not done.

Calling "rotate.sh -force" should always rotate the screen, no matter what position is is, right? Well, it flickers a bit but that's it. The only peculiarity I found is when calling chkhinge. I get:

chkhinge: Case open landscape (so far, so good)
Gdk-WARNING **; locale not supported by Xlib
Gdk-WARNING **; cannot set locale modifiers

What does locale have to do with rotating the screen? And if it really does, might I just be missing a certain package?

Thanks in Advance!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Debugging Xfce4.2.2?
« on: March 05, 2007, 04:17:50 pm »
Hello all,

all of a sudden my xfce4.2.2 stopped working. It starts up to the rat-like logo with the xfce background, the pointer is visible and movable, but that's it. As openbox works fine, I don't think it't the X-Server.

Is there a way to debug the start of the window manager (something like XFree86.log)? I suspect it might have something to do with different (beta) versions of xfce4 flying around here. Right now I deinstalled all packages containing the word "xfce" and just reinstalled xfce4 in version 4.2.2. Are there any other libraries or such which might be trouble?

And which xfce4-feed is consistent and stable and suitable for installing xfce?

Thanks in advance!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Backup Strategy
« on: March 05, 2007, 12:58:33 pm »
Hello all,

having pdaxii13 up and running well, I'd love to keep it that way. However, one has to expect the worst. What would be the best strategy to get it back up and running?

Say we have a akita full install, i.e. "/" on flash and "/usr" on hda1. I was thinking about booting into the maintenance menu and make a NAND backup and tar-gzip "/usr" as hdimage-custom.tgz and use that as hdimage after the NAND-restore. Would that work and how do you do it?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Usb-sticks Vs. Harddrives On Pdaxii13
« on: February 21, 2007, 02:21:34 am »
Hello all,

currently I'm wondering why USB-Sticks are not properly recognized by my C3100 running pdaxii13. dmesg only shows "READ CAPACITY FAILED" and "unable to read partiton table" in combination with I/O-Errors. Strange enough, self-powered USB harddisks work fine and the tested USB-Sticks (tested several) work fine in my Linux box.

Could it be a power issue? However, I remember USB-Sticks working on my Z when I had OZ installed.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Periodic Table (gperiodic) For Pdaxii13
« on: February 18, 2007, 12:43:59 pm »
Hello all,

I'm looking for a periodic table of the elements for pdaxrom (well, xpaxii13, actually) and want to use my favorite linux application, gperiodic. As it is a gtk+-Application, I did expect it to work. It compiles fine on the Zaurus (C3100 with gcc 3.4.6), but when I try to run the executable all I get is 100% CPU load.

Maybe someone came across the same problem or one of the experts here has the time to take a quick look...

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Uboot Wrecking System (pdaxrom Install)
« on: February 11, 2007, 10:44:04 am »
Hello all,

I'm trying to install the latest pdaXrom (pdaXrom-1.1.0r121-Kathrin-akita) on my SL-3100. If I'm correct then I need to install Uboot first to be able to repartition the root partition in the flash-ROM.

The Uboot install runs fine and claims to reboot the device at the end. After that the zaurus is pretty much dead, nothing works anymore. Luckily I can start the service menu from ROM (FN-D-M) and restore the NAND.

Am I doing something wrong here? Any help is appreciated ;-)

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Device Waking Up At Midnight
« on: February 11, 2007, 06:07:40 am »
Hello all,

I'm using a SL-3100 (Borzoi) with OZ 3.5.4.1 running Opie 1.2.1. My problem is that the Zaurus wakes up from suspend every night at midnight (according to log at 23:59:57, to be precise). Sadly enough, the logfiles give me no clue on what task might trigger this.

Does anyone have an idea on how I might get my Zaurus to "sleep through"?

Software / Mplayer With Opie - Interlaced Picture?
« on: August 09, 2006, 03:56:38 pm »
Hello all,

I'm trying to get mplayer to work on my borzoi (OZ 3.5.4.1 with Opie). It works, but I only get an interlaced picture. Which option might I be missing?

It is a movie I resized using mencoder to 320x184. It runs fine on my Debian box using mplayer.

User Request for Applications / Qplot
« on: April 19, 2006, 04:46:17 am »
Hello all,

I'd relly love to use qplot. I know it's in the feed, but it might need to be adapted to the actual version of OZ, as it segfaults on startup on OZ3.5.4.1-alpha2/borzoi.

Cheers,
Tron

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Windows-usb-connection With Oz
« on: April 13, 2006, 09:19:12 am »
Hello all,

I'd just like to know if anyone succeeded in getting a USB network connection between his Windows box (say, XP) and his Z (borzoi in my case) running OpenZaurus (3.5.4.1-alpha1 here).

I've tried the smallpig NDIS drivers to get the USB network device on Windows, but it only tells me that the cable isn't plugged in.

Did I mention that USB networking works fine on linux? I think somehow it's a question of the Windows driver (on insertion of the cable I get a short notice about a not-found USB device and that's it).

General Discussion / Borzoi: Clearing Harddisk Before Flashing Oz?
« on: February 28, 2006, 03:50:20 am »
Hello all,

as I hopefully will be receiving my Zaurus (original japanese version) soon, I'd like to get it to a working state by flashing OZ as the japanese software does not really help. If I'm not mistaken, OZ is installed onto the harddrive. I suspect that the japanese files reside there, too. Is there a way (and is it a good idea) to erase the harddisk before flashing to avoid a mix-up of japanese and OZ files?

Sincerely,
Tron
