C1000/3x00 General discussions / Sl-6000l Vs. Sl-c1000 Vs. Sl-c3200
« on: July 11, 2006, 07:32:13 pm »
Hello All
I am a current owner of an SL-6000L, and am looking to upgrade.  I am a Linux novice.  I've been thinking about the 3200, but the price is a real drawback.  I've seen some 1000's on ebay for around 300-400.  What is the main difference between the 1k and the 3200?  Is it the microdrive? And in terms of processing speed, how do these devices compare to the 6000?  I really want to be able to run movies full screen at 30fps.  This is no where near possible on the 6k.  I suppose one of the drawbacks of the C series is the lack of integrated wifi.  But its no deal breaker.  So what do you think?

Thanks

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Keymapping Ir How-to
« on: July 05, 2006, 11:59:42 am »
Hello, I've installed XIrKD, and of course it doesn't work because I've got a Belkin IR Keyboard.  I'd like to try to use Kopsis Zkbdd, but his feeds are down.  So, i've got the idea to modify the existing targus keymap in XIrKD for Belkin.  Unfortunantly, I am not sure what software to use that will tell me the key codes.  Any ideas?

Thanks,
Kim

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Xvideo Error, Ffplay
« on: June 28, 2006, 02:12:24 pm »
Hello, I installed ffplayer and encoded a video file at 640x480, 23 (approx) fps.  When I play back the video on my SL-6000L, It's choppy.  This may be because I have a slow SD card.  I'm going to purchase a faster one today.  However, I can play the video.  The Video is super slow, whilst the audio plays at normal speed.  When I exit the video, in ATerm, I have an error that says  Xlib:  extension "XVideo" missing on display ":0.0".

any ideas?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Questions About Installation
« on: June 26, 2006, 02:34:16 am »
Hey Guys!  Thanks for the response.  I did install the Guyhelm ROM before the pdaXrom, so actual internal memory isn't an issue.  And you're correct, i'm installing to a CF card.  I tried the reboot / startx with no results.  As suggested, I typed firefox in console, and I got a "command not found."  So i guess this means I've got this installed incorrectly.  The version I used came from a pdaXrom feed.  I'll keep looking..

ok.. you guys were right.  originally I didn't install the right version, which has since been corrected, and now shows up after a reboot.

On another note, I must say that I am enjoying the challenges of learning Linux, and this forum is a great help!

Thanks!
Kim

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Questions About Installation
« on: June 26, 2006, 12:07:51 am »
Hello All,

First off, I am completely new to Linux.  I decided that I wanted to give it a try so I picked up an SL-6000L.  Anyway, I loaded pdaXrom, and have finally figured out the wifi.  :-)

On to my question... I have a couple of feeds in Package Manager.  My first installation was AbiWord.  Very idiot proof.  I clicked, and it installed.  Ive been attempting to install firefox, but when I do, I get no icons.  Is there something I need to do in console to get this working?  Thinking it might just be firefox, I tried to install a crossword program, with the same results.  The package manager shows the package to be installed, but I don't know how to access it.

Also, I was able to get my Belkin IR keyboard going with the original sharp rom, but am at a loss with pdaXrom.  Any advice?

I apologise for such green questions... but i've searched and searched to no avail.

Thanks,
Kim
