I'm sulking now, nobody wants to help me

Hi

I haven't been using my 3200 for a while since I've been using various EEE PCs instead but I've decided to bring it back into service as I've found it's often still handy (and cool) to have something to hand which can fit in my pocket.

Anyway, I've been using pdaXii13 on my Zaurus  over the past year or so and I have been very happy with it. However, I've just checked my disk space usage and I have 1.4 GB free on root. Now, as I use the full image version installed to hard drive I don't need to install very much more software so I think it would be better if I could reduce the root partition on the hard drive to 1GB and then have a larger data drive. I'm reinstalling pdaXii13 and I'm trying to use fdisk when installing to achieve this with no luck. It's worth mentioning that I'd like to keep the default swap file as well.

Please would someone be kind enough to let me know exactly what I need to type in fdisk to do the above.

Many thanks in advance

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxii13 On Nand
« on: August 19, 2007, 09:23:42 am »
Right, I've done this now but I reflashed the NAND as well and am now back to a clean install. At least my /data is intact.

I flashed the NAND, reinstalled the latest hdd image and then used the pdaxii13-custom.tgz to upgrade. I did all of this from the installer menu. It's no big deal, I'll just set it back up again and reinstall my extra apps but please could someone confirm that to upgrade in future all I need to do is install the hdd image and use the latest pdaxii13-custom.tgz file and that this will upgrade my kernel and installation to the latest version.

Also, I have noticed that on the Info tab of the config tool it now says pdaXii13 build 5.4.8 "Alice". Should this not be Sally or Akita on an SL-C3200.

Thanks for the help.

Thank you for the info above.

I have downloaded all of the files in your post but one thing I forgot to mention is that I am using the full version with the hd image extracted to the microdrive.

It mentions on the upgrade page here:-

http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/?q=wiki/Zauru...gebase/Pdaxii13

That as I am using the full version I will need to flash my Zaurus, install the latest hdd image (which I refer to above) and also use the pdaXii13-custom.tgz file.

Therefore, I have also downloaded the latest hdimage-full.tgz, which I think is 5.4.7, and I'm ready to go I think.

Please would you confirm that this is the case. I want to update fully to 5.4.8 but keep my /data and installed apps together with my general settings.

Also, I would be very grateful if you would explain what each of these upgrade files and processes actually does just so that I understand what is happening.

Thanks very much for your help.

Hi

Firstly, I would like to thank Meanie for the work he has done on his various projects and the time he puts in to make things as easy to install and configure as possible. I tried pdaxQTrom a few months ago on my SL-C3200 and then graduated a few weeks ago to pdaXii13 Version 5.4.6.

I'm just wondering what I need to download and install to upgrade to 5.4.8. I would like to fully upgrade my installation including the latest kernel.

I have looked at the links in this thread but cannot find the instructions to upgrade an existing installation.

Thanks for your help in advance

Python / Creating Python 2.4 Zaurus Image
« on: June 16, 2007, 09:39:51 am »
Hi

I have installed your python image kopsis and have been using it for the last few weeks to learn python/PyQt so thanks very much for that.

Just one thing though. I would like to set up python/PyQt/Qt on one of my Windows machines and I would like to be able to develop on the Windows machine and then run on the Z and vice versa.

I installed Python obviously, then Qt and then PyQt. Then I needed scintilla which I installed and then I needed sip and it was all getting a bit silly. Needless to say I couldn't get it to work. I was trying to get Idle up and running but failed.

I think I had the wrong versions to match the Z anyway as I was installing PyQt4 and I think it should have been version 3.

Anyway, please would someone let me know what to download and install and how to do it to achieve the above.

Many thanks and apologies for the fairly long post.

Also if this would be best in the Desktop thread then please let me know.

Sharp ROMs / Add An Icon To A Tab And Set The App To Open
« on: May 16, 2007, 04:24:42 pm »
Thanks very much for the help on this. I have been able to create some links to local web pages, Word docs and others but I cannot create a link to open hexedit in a konsole window as I mentioned above.

Just been playing around with it again with no luck so if anyone can put me out of my misery it would be very much appreciated as I reckon the solution is probably easy.

Cheers

Thanks very much for that, I've created a few links to pages and they worked great once I added execute permissions.

One more question please if I may? I want to create another icon to load a console app.

I have tried variations on what you gave me above but have been unable to get the link to work. I want to open QKonsole and then start hexedit. What do I need to put in the script to do this?

Thanks again.

normally, you can just add the argument in the .desktop file, but SharpROM is using very very old version of qtopia which ignores arguments. what you need to do is create a script which runs your app and loads the doc you can and put the name of the script into the desktop file instead....
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=161077\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Cheers Meanie, sorry to be a pain though, please would you be able to give me an example of what to stick in a script file to open a particular web page in Opera.

Thanks again

Don't use "the form". Edit the application.desktop file.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=160468\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I must remember to hide my profession as a Windows developer when on this forum :-)

I edited the .desktop file but it doesn't work unfortunately. It just opens Opera and doesn't open the page.

I also tried just putting the path in without Opera i.e. :-

Exec = /hdd2/Documents/Web_Files/test.html

But this still just opened Opera without the html page.

Any ideas? I reckon this must be possible to do somehow. I hope so anyway as there are a few local html pages/sites I would like to setup with an icon for easy access.

Cheers

If when you made the tab you had to enter something like this:

Code: [Select]
exec opera
Try this:

Code: [Select]
exec opera /path/to/file.html[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=160452\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Thanks for the response.

Unfortunately, it will only except a valid application name in the form.

You can type in the application name into the 'Program' textbox or you can select a program from the list but if I try to put 'opera /filepath/filename.html' I get a dialog saying 'This program is not found'.

Cheers

Hi

I have a quick question please.

I want to create an application icon on a tab which will open up an .html file that is stored on my hdd, in Opera.

I have created the item on the tab, selected the icon I want and then set the application to Opera but how do I tell it which page to open when I click the icon?

Many Thanks

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Cacko Incorrectly Says /hdd3 Is Full
« on: April 16, 2007, 11:14:19 am »
Cheers Jon

That's running now. I did start the checkdisk from my Windows machine but it was SLOOOOWWWWWW! so I cancelled it and ran fsck.

I don't need to worry that it says that FAT32 support is ALPHA do I?java script:emoticon('')
smilie

Any idea how this happens? It seems that files added/deleted from HDD3 via Windows aren't always reflected by Cacko. My df line above shows 32MB free which is where I deleted my swapfile which I did on the Zaurus itself so that was shown. Very strange.

Thanks again

Thanks for the replies

I tried fsck /hdd3 but get the following back:-

The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2 filesystem.......

Do I need to specify FAT filesystem and if so how?

I will give a defrag a go as well later on.

Cheers

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Cacko Incorrectly Says /hdd3 Is Full
« on: April 16, 2007, 07:17:12 am »
Hi

When I plug my SL-C3200 running Cacko full into my Windows XP machine via USB, with PC Link Mode setting to Storage - Internal HDD, Windows Explorer says that there is 580MB free.

However, Cacko thinks it is full, my df line for /hdd3 reads:-

/dev/hda   35968284   5935472    32812    99%    /hdd3

There has always been a difference between what Cacko and Windows reports but it has become a problem now as I cannot create a swap file even though I know there is space available.

Also, I am trying to bluetooth a file from my phone to the Zaurus and cannot as the Zaurus believes the disk drive is full.

Any assistance would be very much appreciated.

Cheers
