IIRC, the simpad is monaureal only and even at that it is not that good - doing only 11KHz or so...it would prbly sou nd like one of those Utility radios or some old German volksempfaenger...

Glad you could join;) Really, a palmos emulator would be great. Think of the 10'000s of pda-tailored applications that are available already...

Great work!
Quite OT, but some of us seem to have a Siemens Simpad (Which is kinda supported by OE) and Support for my fav. embedded distribution pdaXrom simply would ROCK!

They had the Abacus wrist PDA on sale at the PalmGear Develop progamm in early september: Don't know if the offer is still valid and a better deal than what you can get at ebay, but I got mine there for 59 bucks incl. shipping.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Palmos Emulator For Pdaxrom
« on: September 04, 2005, 11:01:01 pm »
Hi there,
I've been trying to get a PalmOS Emulator to work on my C750, but haven't been that successful so far. I have tried to run: QPilot and QPose which limited success for the latter one. I get it to display a palm screen in the top left corner (doesn't magnify) and it runs very slowly (about 1/10th of the speed of my palm III). In addition to that, it only runs in Qtopia, and I have changed to pdaXrom some time ago. Has anyone compiled POSE or any other palm emulator for pdaxrom?
Thanks
chris

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Ok, Kde Works; What About Gnome?
« on: June 06, 2005, 04:38:12 pm »
Ok, I've installed the three ipks on my sd card (its formatted with ext3):

I've added /mnt/card/data/usr/local/bin to the path (so that startxfce is found)
Now when I type startxfce I get the X11 backgraiunf with the "x" cursor then it drops back to the shell with:
Code: [Select]
xfce4-session: error while loading shared libraries: libxfsm-4.2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directoryNow the same happens when I enter startx (kde still works)...

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Rc 10 Compatible Feeds
« on: June 05, 2005, 03:57:00 am »
Hiya!

I think it would be a good idea to have a list with all the feeds that work with rc10 here:
So If you know of any, please add them in this thread with a short description.

I'll just start here:

http://egbok.com/Zaurus/pdaXrom/unstable/feed - contains nonpareil, the ultimate hp calculator emulator

http://beer.geek.nz/software/zaurus/feed/unstable/ - contains burgerspace, mutt, gnupg, rsync and putty

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Rc10 Out For Testing..
« on: June 01, 2005, 07:16:12 pm »
Problem with SD
===========
My config: 750 with 1gb SD formatted as ext2/3 (happens in either filesystem), rc10

Occasionally the Z "loses" the sd card, expecially when installing packages or running kde. I've applied the sd-fix via ipgk upgrade from outside x, but it did not have any effect on this issue.
If this happens, /mnt/card appears unmounted, and a have to reboot to mount again (mount /mnt/card doesn't do the trick here).
Now the bad thing is: Most of the time, everything works ok after rebooting, but occasionally I lose some dirs on the card. ls -l doesn't list them and in mc I see them in red with a questionmark in front of the entry, e.g.:
/home
/lost+found
/opt
?usr

A fsck results in countless errors leaving me basically with the only option to reinstall the whole thing...

Any idea how to improve this is greatly appreciated!
If you need further details/logs/etc, just ask.

Take care
chris

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Freepascal
« on: May 29, 2005, 04:55:03 pm »
Hi Scott,

well I think opensource is about freedom of choice
I have been working on several large pascal (Delphi) projects in the last couple of years, and I think pascal is a pretty nice language (but then again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder), but you are right, no point in starting a holy war here
I'll give freepascal on pdaxrom a try when I get some sparetime on my hands. I'll take a look at tcc though, thanks for the hint! Just wanted to know I maybe someone has tried this before.

Take care
Chris

er, not to start a holy war... but, alas, it's pascal!

I am using g++ on the pda -- it SUCKS as a primary development
platform.. but you know what -- it does work.  So, I do 99% of my stuff
off the PDA and only make minor changes, etc.

But, ya, tcc for c is awesome... even on PDA.  perl is pretty good...
python is ok/not-bad... etc.   Look into tcc.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Freepascal

Has anyone tried Freepascal for or even better ON the Zaurus already? It might be a lightweight alternative to gcc for quick development on the road.

Greetings
Chris

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Screenshots Of Rc10 Running Kde 3.4 Here
« on: May 19, 2005, 08:08:02 pm »
I took some shots of KDE running natively on the Z in pdaXrom. As always, my compliments to Sashz, Laze and the pdaXrom team!
Programms in KDE take some time to load, but once they are up, speed is quite tolerable.
Here are some pictures of KDE running on my 750 from SD card.

Take care
