iPAQ Forum / Just Installed Opie On Ipaq 3950

Could you provide some debugging messages? "cardctl ident" and "dmesg" before and after inserting your card would be fine.

3660 is 100% compatible with Linux. IrDA, CF-WLAN cards and sound work perfectly.

But if you still want to restore WinCE, follow this instruction:
(You need a serial cable and ymodem-capable terminal emulation program to complete it.)

1. Restart your iPAQ. You will see bootldr pengiun logo.
2. Press button 1 (Bootloader serial console)
3. Connect your iPAQ to the serial port of your computer and setup it as 115200 bps 8N1
4. Hit ENTER. You will see boot> prompt
5. Type "load root", hit ENTER and initiate YMODEM upload of wince.gz backup file.
6. After wince.gz has been transfered, you will see iPAQ flashing: "addr: XXXXXX, data: XXXXXX". DO NOT reset iPAQ during this!!
7. You will be notified, that flashing has been completed successfully. Type "boot" and press ENTER.
8. You will see WinCE booting. Start BootBlaster and flash your normal WinCE bootloader back.

If you are using unicode fonts, cyrillic letters are read in rxvt-unicode

6000 - Tosa / Power Failure
« on: November 10, 2005, 12:30:39 pm »
My local portmap server went down, and I tryed to fix it with my Z. First strange thing I noticed - touchscreen did not work (tapping switches opened windows (fvwm)). I managed to get WLAN up and restart my portmapper. But I wanted to fix ts bugs. I removed /etc/pointercal file and restarted X. Calibration did not succeed, so I restarted Z. It did not even turn on. After plugging in AC adaptor, power led started blinking. D+M (diags menu) shows:
BAT0_V: 9.8
BAT0_T: 3.2
Value of 9.8 seems to be really strange.
System still boots, if you press D+B (recovery flash partition), then reboot it by entering runlevel 6.

How to fix it?

Add: Real voltage at battery is 3.62V, so my battery is OK. IMHO there is something wrong with power curcuits.

Same problem with SL-6000. Diags menus say, that I have 8V on battery. Seems really strange.

Kernel tries to mount root filesystem (/dev/mtdblock2), but it doesn't know it's fs type. So it tries a few (cramfs, fat), but fails. After trying JFFS2, it succeeds and starts /sbin/init. So everything is ok.

Try holding Fn, D, M keys at once and pressing RESET. Zaurus should enter diags mode. If yes, report your voltages.

You need to fix -geometry argument, specified when launching applications. See the files in /usr/share/applications/

6000 - Tosa / Usb Webcam

I am just doing cat /dev/video0
If you want to get a picture, use spcaview, compiled by koen (see my question in OZ/GPE thread). If you have modules, could you compile spca50x ( and upload videodev.o & spca50x.o somewhere?

I am trying to get Genius VideoCam V4 to work. Module loads successfully, but I get panics when trying to read /dev/video0.

It seems to work, but I don't get any picture. Instead I get a kernel panic. But it seems to be my fault: cat /dev/video0 also reproduces it

Trying to fix videodev...

(If anyone want to try connecting webcam to Z, go to )

Hi. If someone has a working toolchain with x11-devel and sdl-devel (and maybe sdl-image-devel) libraries, please compile this program:
It is a video (v4l) grabber, that outputs grabbed video to SDL. I have a spca50x connected to tosa's USB host and I would like to record videos to CF.

6000 - Tosa / Voip To Telephone Access? Recommendations?

I tryed using VoIP using esd. Well, it works, but slow (delay about 1500ms over 802.11b connection). Start esd servers (-public -tcp) and use esdcat & esdrec to transfer sound over TCP.

If you want to have a better data exchange between Linux host and Zaurus, try using the following programs:

It gives you a basic shell environment. Using it, you can do everything you want with a handheld GNU/Linux system. To gain root priviliges, type su (no password by default)

SSH (client and server): (see openssh-*.ipk files)
I think you understand what it is

Most of Zaurus software is in IPK (Itsy-packaging, a Debian-like packaing system) format. To install software, copy in into Main_memory via SAMBA. Then find file you just copyed in Documents tab (on Zaurus) and tap it. Software installation dialog will appear. Install software into main memory and click OK.
Note: sometimes software needs to restart Zaurus to operate correctly

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Oz Tosa Kernel
« on: September 06, 2005, 01:07:01 am »
Is there a way to patch OZ SL6k kernel to make it read my mtdparts from first partition? I want my Z not to split root and home partitions, but default OZ kernel has mtdparts= parameter inside and does not use arguments, specified by sharp bootloader.
