Mac Issues / Zmacsync Ssh Problem
« on: January 26, 2007, 05:38:46 am »

This appears to be a problem on the Zaurus ssh server and not ZMacSync.

Just a question: where did you get the ssh re-instalation from? The OpenSSH provided with ZMacSync might not be compatible with Cacko since Cacko has its own ssh.

Some more ideas:
* did you reboot the zaurus? ssh might need that after reinstallation
* reinstall the correct Cacko version
* you could also try to delete (move away) the $HOME/.ssh keys on the Mac if they cause confusion
* you can open a Mac Terminal and start ssh manually

Thanks hns for the reply!

You're right.

After a research in the file system I found 2 groups of ssh keys and config. files. One was in /etc directory and the other under /etc/ssh. Then, I decided to read the manual (duh!) and found your advise to not install ssh under Cacko

As a completelly newbie a decided to reflash and install everything again.
This time I only intalled dtm2xml utility, reinicialize my ssh known_host and it seems to be working again!

But.... under the refresh address sync it sends all my addresses are sent and then the program stalls at sync owner info... and I need to force quit the application.

Is this behaviour normal or is a corrupt database problem?

Sharp ROMs / Less than 64M RAM available?

I reflashed my 5500 for the first time last night, and everything went fairly
smoothly (once I realized that my first SD card would be faster if I set it
on fire   )

I am using the Cacko/Crow 64-0 ROM (for sl-5500) and the updated Cacko kernel.
Everything seems to be running great, but when I pull up the System Info app,
it shows the Total Memory as 46280k.

Shouldn't this be much closer to 64000k?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=49315\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Old question with no reply but recently flashed Cacko/Crow and was surprised to see the same behaviour. Why?

Any clues?

Sharp ROMs / Autostart / Stop Samba On Wifi Card Insertion

a script is a text file whose first line identifies the intepreter, e.g. "#!/bin/bash" or "#!/bin/perl", where the magic part is the #!, and is then set executable, so when you "ls -la" it will look like this

-rwxr-xr-x ......

[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=152392\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Speculatrix,

I created a simple text file using TextEdit:

#! /bin/bash
cd /
/etc/rc.d/init.d/samba start

Thens saved it under Documents/MyScripts/sambaup.txt
Renamed the file deleting the .txt extension.

Opened terminal and cd to Documents/MyScripts, then ls -la

It shows sambaup as

-rw-r--r-- .... so, no "x" (executable?)...

Is there any additional step to make the script executable so that I can run it in terminal and later assign it to a icon?

Sorry but I'm having a hard time with Linux

Mac Issues / Zmacsync Ssh Problem
« on: January 25, 2007, 01:01:41 pm »
Running Cacko/Crow ROM (64/0 home on SD) here.

Installed ZMacSync v2.04.
I was able to connect and do a fresh sync for one time.
After that nothing more happens.

I get the following message:

ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host
Please check openssh-server installation.

Tried to reinstall the ssh_server but this did not help.

In terminal typing:
#su
#/etc/rc.d/init.d/ssh start

issue a message
Could not load host key: /etc/ssh/ssh_host_key
Disabling protocol version 1. Could not load host key
Privilege separation under sshd does not exits

How can a track the problem...any suggestions?

take a look in the /etc/pcmcia directory, lots of interesting scripts in there. be sure to take a backup copy before changing
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=151903\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Thanks for reply speculatrix. I will check your suggestion.

I suppose that a script is a plain text file with some kind of extension added to its name to identify it as a script. Is it right?

Is there any way to create a applet or a icon associated with this script ?

My idea was to plug my wifi card, start samba (using this applet/icon) and then make a connection with my mac.

Or you could install Cacko lite ... and pick the other apps you need.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=151960\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Thanks all for the reply!

As I completelly Linux newbie (although a Mac user with a *nix sys to play   ) I believe that installing a "lite" version would be the best option.

Snappy, can Cacko Lite be installed on a SL5500?

The question says it all...

Just installed Cacko/Crow (64/0) and would like to delete some unused apps installed with this ROM like:
- calculator
- voice recorder
- calendar
- address book
- todo list

Any way to completely delete this apps or the best I can do is hide then with Tab Settings?

Thanks in advance!

Sharp ROMs / Autostart / Stop Samba On Wifi Card Insertion
« on: January 21, 2007, 07:47:14 am »
Thanks for the reply bam.

For networkd helper applet you mean the Network Config Applet used to setup configurations (LAN/Wireless/IrDA) which is already installed with the system or a new ipk that I should install?

I did not find any option to autostart/stop Samba on Network Config Applet.

Thanks!

Sharp ROMs / Autostart / Stop Samba On Wifi Card Insertion
« on: January 20, 2007, 06:32:11 pm »
Just installed Cacko/Crow ROM (home on SD) + Cacko Kernel Update.

My WiFi Card is recognized with no problems and I was able to configure Samba over WiFi based on the guidelines posted on ZUG. The only problem is that Samba only auto starts on USB but I would like it to autostart when I insert my WiFi card and autostop when the card is removed.

So far I can only start Samba manually using samba start and stop commands.

Code: [Select]
#su
#/etc/rc.d/init.d/samba start

Complete Linux newbie here

How do I write a script and where should it be placed?

Thanks!

Just to post my results:

On the Z side:
Downloaded and installed VNC Server
http://www.sdgsystems.com/index.php?option...id=32&Itemid=49

On the Mac Side:
Downloaded and installed Chicken of the VNC
http://sourceforge.net/projects/cotvnc/

Follow the instructions found here:
http://zaurus.kruss.com/software_sharp.php#3

Worked perfectly!
I can now type and point in my SL5500 using my powerbook's keyboard & mouse.

Thank you for all the tips!

Any suggestions?

Think I got it . OPIE suports vCards 2.1 not 3.0. I had to convert my vCards to the previows version. You have to check 2.1 version in the addressbook preferences and export. Just in case I backuped all my cards before and exported without pictures.

synergy (http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/) is an excellent solution if there is a package for your Z.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=141496\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Wow, this seems very interesting (if this app really does what it claims and have a binary available to Z). Although the page says that the MacOS X port is incomplete I'll study it more and give it a try.

Thanks!

actually if you want to type into applications (especially non X one like hancomsheet) you probably want to use vnc.  It is a remote desktop app that is ported to the Z and mac (as well as linux, windows....).

Thanks bluedevils!
Cool nick!...Hey maybe  I'll borrow it as the name for my rock band here in Brazil, may I?

I will try the VNC thing.

What is the best VNC ipk for the SharpROM?
Are there many options?

I've found some posts here that I will read carefully but can you point me to any VNC Zaurus guide you know?

Cheers from Brazil!
