Thanks - Dan

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Syncing Opie With Opensync - Collie + Hentges
« on: January 13, 2007, 08:10:34 pm »
All,

Has anyone had success syncing opie with opensync? The distribution is Fedora. T Z is Collie with Hentges. I have tried several things to get it to work. The best is an old .82 Multisycn; however it seems to only sync one way, from the Z to the Fedora box.

Thanks to anyone in advance - Dan

Success!

FC6 is syncing with Hentges ROM!

The solution was to 'retrofit' multisync .82. The source is available and compiles cleanly on fc6.

I am not sure what the issues are with the fc6 multisync, it appears to be doa - too bad.

All,

Has anyone had success with multisync and fc6? The package is in the release, however it errors with a no plugins error. There do not appear to be plugins for the 0.90 fc6 version.

thanks - Dan

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Cannot Ssh To Hentges Rom/ Nameserver Failior
« on: December 05, 2006, 05:37:24 pm »
Thank you for the pointer on ssh and passwd. Yes that was it. Now ssh works.

The network comes up and ssh works. Pings from the Z the linux box work. However the Linux box is not forwarding the packets. Pings through do not appear to work. The Linux box has VMWARE running and guest OS from that box are successful at accessing the web - this lead me to believe that routing and iptables should not be too far off.

What is the best way to proceed to debug the network config?

Thanks - Dan

All,

A flash of the latest Hentges ROM and cardfs seems to have gone well. Most things came up, including an auto restore of contacts. (this was a surprise)

The issue is networking is not coming all the way back. The Z is connected via cable to a PC. That connection is up. Ping works.

Pings of ip addresses from the Z work; however the Z cannot resolve names, ie www.google.com, etc. /etc/resolv.conf is set up? Any clues?

Finally ssh from the host to the Z does not work. The Z asks for the root pw. I used the password askded for during initialization. Is the pw canned? If so what is it? Can it be reset?

Much thanks in advance - Dan

Thanks for that comment- that was the exact pointer that was needed.

The replies never actually said I had the wrong file - the comments were more about how to use the file I had - that was the confusing point for -3- tries.

Thanks - Dan

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Sharp Camera On 3.5.4.1 ?
« on: April 14, 2006, 10:52:47 pm »
Has anyone tried sharp camera on 3.4.5.1 ?

Does it requires a recompile? Do the libraries support execution accross versions? This should work. I am looking for confirmation.

The flash went well.  SD cardfs worked like charm too.  Thanks for the fix!

I am still unable to extract the initrd.bin from the .gz file.  What commands did you use to uncompress the file? What did the uncompressed file produce. Gunzip still produces a 157 MB file - this does not seem to be correct.

Sorry to repeat the same questions - but the problem remains.

Thanks - Dan

"One initrd.bin from $MACHINE/hentges-*-image*

The file hentges-*-image* is a compressed tarball which contains initrd.bin, you'll have to extract it first (winzip can do so just fine)"

This is a cut from install instructions. I am unable to extract initrd.bin from the tarball. Can someone provide instructions on how to do this? Attempts to work with these .gz files result in a 157 MB ext2 file.

Thanks for you your help - Dan

Attempts to tar -zxvf  hentges-opie-image-de-collie_T1-RC4-3.5.4.1-alpha2-collie.rootfs.ext2.gz
do nothing.

It unziped without error but ended up a 150 MB file.

Is this a tar file? Why does tar -zxvf not work?

Thanks - Dan

Please read the header text of the directory you got that file from:
[a href=\"http://hentges.net/tmp/do_not_use/collie/ext2/]http://hentges.net/tmp/do_not_use/collie/ext2/[/url]

It points to a FAQ which explains what an .ext2 file is and what it is good for.

Yes, I had read the FAQ. I was following the directions to extract the initrd.bin. The system is Linux. tar -zxvf seems to complete but it does not extract any files.

The FAQ states that Winzip will work.

On a LInux system what is the preferred way to extract files from the .gz ?

Thanks - It was the /tmp/do_not_use/ that did it.

I currently have an old cardfs image installed. That implies the SD directories exist and are in use.  Will a re-install work with these?

How is an upgrade from a previous version performed?

Thanks again - Dan

I can not find either a initrd.bin or a cardfs file in this path:

http://oz.hentges.net/hentges-feeds/3.5.4.1/machines/collie/

Am I looking in the right place?

Thanks - Dan
