Debian / "couldn't Find Matching Glx Visual"
« on: June 27, 2008, 10:43:04 pm »
I wrote a small OpenGL/SDL app that I compiled on my Z. It build without complaint, but when I tried to run it, it said

Code: [Select]
Couldn't find matching GLX visual
Am I missing a package? Or is a package already installed just not configured with OpenGL?

Thanks.

Debian / Rename Wlan0_rename
« on: June 26, 2008, 12:24:03 am »
This is finally driving me nuts: My wireless interface is wlan0_rename/wifi0 (?). How do I change that? More importantly, why does it exist in two states and why the "_rename?"

Thanks, and sorry if the answer is buried in a thread somewhere.

Debian / 1/f1 Issues
« on: June 13, 2008, 10:25:37 am »
Sorry if this has been answered already, I saw nothing obvious in my search (it'll also make finding the solution easier).

When using some apps (Epiphany, Gnumeric), the '1' key doesn't work. To make matters worse, it registers as F1, which, in Gnumeric at least, brings up the help (and bogs down the system SOOOO much). Any solutions?

Thanks.

Off Topic forum / What Program Do People Want To See Coded?
« on: May 29, 2008, 10:27:04 pm »
I've been bored lately, and am looking for a project to work on (from scratch, I have yet to master working on a team). What ideas do people have?

Guidelines:

-Not necessarily Zaurus- or N810-specific
-Nothing 3D
-Nothing TOO massive (like a desktop environment or web browser, strangely enough I don't feel as though a game would be "massive")
-No "contribute to existing projects" requests, please (unless you feel excruciatingly, and I do mean excruciatingly, strongly that that's the way to go)
-Preferably only requiring one or two external toolkits/libs

Notes:

-It will be a C/C++ app
-The only external lib I really have experience with is SDL, a little FLTK. I'm willing to learn to use common libs like ogg/vorbis
-There are no guarantees that this program will ever be {started|completed|stable} or will {follow your idea exactly|follow anybody's idea at all}.

Thanks.

Debian / Working Sip Client?
« on: May 13, 2008, 10:37:42 pm »
Sorry for all of the posts here...

Are there any working SIP clients for Debian? Ekiga doesn't have sound and freezes and Linphone's audio is gibberish.

Thanks.

Debian / Package Troubles
« on: May 13, 2008, 05:34:51 pm »
I'm having issues with updates and just installing packages, especially "Depends on xyz but it is not going to be installed" and "___ has been held back."

Is this a repo issue? Can I revert back to Lenny to gain some semblance of stability?

Thanks.

Debian / Ekiga Install
« on: May 12, 2008, 06:05:51 pm »
I'm trying to install Ekiga, but it claims that my version of libopal (2.2.11~something) isn't new enough (it wants 2.2.11). Is there an easy way to fake the version or to just make Ekiga install?

Thanks.

Debian / Why Is Debian Slow?
« on: May 11, 2008, 10:09:37 pm »
First off, this is an honest question, NOT an attempt to start a flame war. I REALLY want to like Debian on my Zaurus.

What makes Debian so much slower than Angstrom? They both run off of the HDD and they both use EABI (?), so why the huge performance gap? Is it something I could fix?

Thanks.

PS: Is there a way to have a Debian-Angstrom dual-boot? I know at least for a while Debian was using the Angstrom kernel.

EDIT: Nevermind. I decided that my Angstrom build environment was foobared enough, as were the images, so Debian gets another chance. I'd still like to know why it's slow, though.

Nokia Tablet / N810 Games
« on: May 05, 2008, 04:23:22 pm »
I have compiled Crimson Fields 0.5.2 and Freeciv 2.1.4 for the N810, and, for lack of a better place, am posting them here with deps. Hopefully people will enjoy them.

Just untar the tarballs to /.

Another random Zaurus sighting, courtesy of ThinkGeek:

I can't tell what distro it's running, though.

Off Topic forum / N810 Stuff
« on: March 21, 2008, 06:40:37 pm »
My N810 came today (), so here are some first thoughts/comparisons to the Zaurus:

-It's smaller
-Its screen doesn't seem quite as nice (seems similar to a ThinkPad LCD, not so much like a touchscreen)
-The keyboard is OK, worse than the Z's. You need to hold your thumbs parallel to the screen's long sides to type on the top row.
-Keymap is NOT set up for standard Linux use (/ is a key combo?!?)
-Poky doesn't work with the touchscreen (), Angstrom results with a normal image soon.
-It appears to be difficult to brick (no restore menu, but other detects USB on boot, can flash it from there)
-The battery door feels flimsy when removed from the device, solid otherwise

More to come!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Capn_fish's Feed
« on: March 11, 2008, 01:07:55 pm »
I'm uploading my feed here, as it's down currently (forever?) and people apparently want stuff from it. Some packages in the Packages file are missing (Freeciv, Python, Wesnoth) because they were too large to be uploaded here. If somebody needs them, PM me and I'll try to work something out.

Software / Shells?
« on: February 24, 2008, 10:57:37 pm »
I'm looking for a shell with more features than sh, but lighter than bash. What are good alternatives? I've never messed with shells before, so I have no clue what I'm doing or what to look for.

Thanks.

Android / Screenshots?
« on: January 23, 2008, 04:35:59 pm »
Would people mind posting some screenshots of Android in action? I'm curious to know what it looks like.

Thanks.
