Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxii13v2 With 2.6 Kernel!?

Be warned, Debian is insanely slow on the Z.

Also, Debian is on 4.0r5 IIRC, no sense getting r3.

Is both eabi and abi slow on the Z? Why do we need a new kernel? Let's just stick with 2.4 and try to optimize pdaXrom.

Where can I get the source code? I would like to get involved and contribute.

Have a look at tyrannozaurus.com--the stuff should be there.

Thanks for the reply. Why would we need kernel 2.6? Why not try to optimize what we currently have?

pdaXrom / pdaXii13 is great. From the above comments, it's not worth the effort to update the kernel.

I guess the next step would be to move to Debian and try to contribute there. What if we take one of the iso's mentioned here and create a distro?

Hello,

I can't really help you on this but, I'm curious as to why you would want to attempt this?  The 2.6 kernel, from what I understand, has some fairly major design changes in it so most of the working Zaurus 2.4 customizations will not immediately work under a 2.4 kernel.  That is why all the 2.6 kernel based ROM/distros are not Zaurus feature complete.

I don't think pdaxrom beta 3 has this, but if you are using pdaxii13, SCIM can be disabled in "pdaxii13 config"
This will improve pdaxii13 performance quite a bit.
Remember to click "Save changes" after changing settings in pdaxii13 config. Then restart X to make changes take effect.

For Beta3 and pdaXii13 (IIRC), you can disable multilanguage something or other (I can't remember exactly what it is) that has been reported to increase performance fairly significantly.

I think I might be using the wrong kernel?

Has anyone tried this?  Is it worth it for us to create a sub-forum for it?  From everything I've read, it seems like a pretty cool device and is kinda in the realm of the other devices we support here.

Thoughts/Opinions?

Nice device but does this mean that the Z community will cease to exist?

Started back working on pdaXrom 3 days ago... the planned move didnt go a well as planned but it could still happen... but I'm going to continue chugging away at it...
I agree, just as much as everyone else, that all the devs need to get together and get on the same page (including myself) to keep this distro running strong.... please feel free to PM me with anything questions you may have

EDIT: I don't have "bl." Where do I get it?

It's a script.  I think it's on Zdevil's collection of useful things.  

EDIT2: And my USB mouse is off (I push right, the cursor goes up?!?)

I've had this problem for a while.  Unfortunately, the Xfbdev server doesn't allow you to rotate the mouse pointer.  Hold the mouse itself 90-degrees counterclockwise from normal, and it will work.  Not a real solution, but I haven't been able to do better.  I had the same problem with Titchy as with eabi, and probably would have with Angstrom, too, but I never had working usb until titchy (which I then dumped in favor of eabi debian).

EDIT3: And is it always this slow?

Huh?  Compared to what?  My sense is that it is definitely faster with eabi than oabi, so Angstrom and debian are both faster than titchy or pdaXrom.

I thought titchy was Debian?

Hi all,

While browsing the Debian ISO repo ( http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/4.0_r2/arm/iso-cd/ ), I came across the following images :
 
debian-40r2-arm-businesscard.iso

debian-40r2-arm-netinst.iso

The debian-40r2-arm-businesscard.iso image is mentioned in this forum, has anyone used the other images?
