Sharp ROMs / Sharp Camera Troubles In Cacko 1.23

You could try some of the packages in the Angstrom/OZ feeds. I don't think they'll work, but they might be worth a shot.

You could also try Angstrom/Opie, if there's nothing tying you to Cacko.

PS- Yes, I know exactly how it is. I have 2 desktops, a laptop, and 2 Zaurii running Linux quite nicely, yet I'm still trying to get Angstrom running on my iPAQ (no, the ready-and-working handhelds.org build isn't good enough) .

Ditto here friend, I have 3 Zauri specifically for play. Not to mention that for small high traffic devices like this, experience taught me to keep a spare unit, 'just in case'.

I'm still playing around with the camera. Haven't looked into Angstrom, but I may. I'm also trying to get a USB EVDO modem working with the Zaurus and I don't think it's going to happen with Cacko. Everything I've read tells me I need the 2.6 kernel. But I'm no linux guru so who knows! If I can get that working in Angstrom and maintain some of the functionality that the Cacko's got, I might switch it to my main machine.

Hardware Mods / 16gb Or 32gb Cf In Cxx00, Anyone?
« on: March 06, 2009, 11:58:37 am »
Just kinda saw this old stump, and wanted to say that I have a Kingston 16gb that I picked up for USD 35 that works pretty well with Cacko on a 3200. Partitioned it to match and I've had no problems. It's kinda slow, but if I want speed I'll just use a super fast SD card.

LodeRunner,

Have him grab the C1000 original NAND back up from Conics - http://downloads.conics.net/pda/zaurus-sl-...iginal-backups/ - and do a NAND restore.

Will only take about 15 minutes to have a vanilla C1000 again

Cheers

Stu

Thanks for the link, but I can't help but notice they only have a JPN image.  When I received the Zaurus from Dynamism, it was running a fully English version of Qtopia...

EDIT: Perhaps he can simply install a language pack, such as this: http://qtopia.net/packages/SHARP/qpe-langu...5.0-8bp_arm.ipk ?
trisoft has a sharp image that has been pre translated to english. check there.

Sharp ROMs / Sharp Camera Troubles In Cacko 1.23
« on: March 03, 2009, 04:23:15 pm »
Wow Jon thanks for the super fast reply!
I'm making progress with this! The application came up but now whenever I hit the snap button I get 'ERROR!' to show up in the taskbar. Guess I'll have to play around.

Oh and running it as root totally did not work. Forced me to reboot. *sigh* Still I try! Even though there is a much better camera in my gear bag right next to the Z, but you guys know how it is.

Hate to bring up a dinosaur topic ('zaurus' *snicker*), but does anyone have these packages backed up anywhere? The Opie feeds are dead and I can't find this rev of the camera application anywhere!

Ubuntu / Dhclient Fixed For Spitz
« on: February 27, 2009, 05:51:29 pm »
Wait, further research makes me think this is a modification to the actual /etc/passwd file?

And in fact it is. For newbies: modify the dhcp line in /etc/passwd. The numbers 101 and 103 should be 0's.

You have to modify the "dhcp" entry in the /etc/passwd file. That was a tip by Stefani earlier before:
"...Setting the user and group id of dhcp both to 0 (root) will solve the problem..."

To those here who are linux newbies (like me!), would that be:
[div class=\'codetop\']CODE[/div][div class=\'codemain\' style=\'height:200px;white-space:pre;overflow:auto\']chmod u+s,g+s dhcp[/div]
Assuming I was already in /etc/passwd ?

I have a Fujitsu U810, and for fast boot (2-3 sec) I have linux+suspend on lid close, resume on lid open.

It works very well, an it's really as fast as my zaurus resume could be.

On resume, battery keeps the unit for 3/4 days. So after closing the lid on Friday, on Monday I resume in 2/3 sec without any problem.

HTH

Wow, that's incredible. I did NOT have that kind of suspend / resume performance with Windows XP on my 810 when I had it.  What linux were you running? Ubuntu? I also really HATED the keyboard configuration. I hear they fixed this with the u820, but I'm waiting for the price to drop a little for the new U.

how about heat dissipation - previous poster said his got very hot!

Well, after owning the Everun Note for a while, I must say that it is NOT a Zaurus killer, and in fact I find myself going back to the Z for many reasons.

1. Dependability: the Note has had lots of issues, like overheating and malfunctioning hardware. My power supply went bad, the webcam isn't working. From other owners, I have heard that hardware issues are common.

2. Battery Life: the Note, with all it's processing power, has poor power management.

3. Instant On: this is by far the most rewarding thing about the Zaurus. Waiting for a computer to boot is dead time. The Z (usually) does not have this problem.

For Sale / Wanted / Wtb: Battery Door Switch For Sl-c3x00
« on: February 14, 2009, 08:35:28 pm »
I received an SL-C3200 that doesn't have the battery door switch. Everything (amazingly!) still works without it, including reflashing and booting to console.

BUT, I want to have a complete Z. Does anyone have a dead Z that it could be 'harvested' from? I would be willing to pay $5 plus shipping if anyone is interested.

Sharp ROMs / Network Doesn't Resume Properly

So you had to fiddle with the suspend/resume scripts in the sharp rom as well? I'm not running cacko either as I found it's network stuff to be even worse.  I guess I'll do some more searching. I find it baffling if I am the only one with this issue and that Sharp never released a patch. I wonder if it is some hardware fault that my zaurus has always had or something.

clarification: no, I fiddled with cacko scripts only, I never ran Sharp rom at all.

you don't need to pull the card, just do "cardctl eject 1" and "cardctl insert 1"... I created an alias "cei cardctl eject 1 ; sleep 3 ; cardctl insert 1".

be sure to use card 0 or 1 as the CF slot, not the internal hard drive, otherwise it gets a bit upset

At one point I thought there was a 'cleaner' fix for this somewhere on the forums. I seem to recall a one liner going into the etc/pcmcia folder somwhere. I reflashed CACKO today, and this is now relevant to my interests. Anyone else remember anything like that?

I have Libretto 50 , u100. My 50 have a modded mini doc so i t support os/2 keyb ext as well. 8mb ram but i dont have the floppy drive. If u interested

Heh heh, I actually have a stack of Lib 50s (less than a dozen!), one of which is gutted for the same operation.

On a side note, I have a couple PC110s now, and am done playing with one of them.

I've found that the best case for the clamshell zauri is actually a CaseLogic portable harddrive case. It's Neoprene, about 15 bucks, and has a pocket for wifi cf / usb host / sd cards as well. Great to just toss in your messenger bag or whatever.

http://www.amazon.com/Caselogic-Neoprene-P...y/dp/B000YOTGNO
$9.99. This should be in great deals and Z buys.
