Angstrom & OpenZaurus / OZ 3.3.5 and Hancom Apps
« on: August 22, 2004, 02:58:24 pm »
Hi all,

I seem to remember that last time I tried to use OZ, the 1.5 versions of the Hancom apps simply would not install on OZ.

Is this still the case? If not, how did you get them to install and work?

Thanks

Owen

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Open Zaurus 3.3.5 and Opera
« on: August 21, 2004, 07:01:24 pm »
Hi Guys, to get my wireless network card work, I've had to ditch any of the sharp roms and head of OZ.

I decided that OZ 3.2 was too old and 3.3.6 sounds too unstable, so I settled for 3.3.5

My wireless card works and opera works as my browser (Konqueror embedded failed to install)

however my opera has no visible icons, just empty squares on the menubar. How do I get them back? Any ideas?

Software / Replacements for the Hancom Suite
« on: August 20, 2004, 08:27:34 am »
Hey all,

I remember ages ago reading a thread about a replacement for the hancom word package that was in beta and supposedly a lot of more advanced. Has anyone heard anything more about that?

Has anyone heard anything about an equivalent or better replacement for the hancom sheet package?

Any ideas if there will be an Ooo implementation for hand helds or even a KOffice implementation for hand helds?

Thanks

General Discussion / Wireless LAN CF Card Questions
« on: August 16, 2004, 05:57:38 am »
Hi Guys,

On a whim, I just bought an Origo Wireless CF Card from shirtpocket.co.uk and it arrived this morning. Unfortunately we don't have wireless at work, so I'll have to wait until I get home to play with it.

I've a Zaurus 5500 and I was wondering how fast a wireless card like this will drain it?

I was wondering if there are any good apps out there to help control the wireless card?

I was also wondering if there were any recommendations, hints, tips that anyone could give me for using my Zaurus with wireless networking?

I was hoping someone could recommend "must have" apps. OK, I know I bought it on a whim, but if someone can recommend apps that will make having a wireless Z a pretty cool thing, that would be awesome.

I know this is all pretty general, but there was no planning behind this, I just thought, hmmm, lets by a wireless card for my Zaurus.

Hey Guys, I saw this article on OSNews

OSNews Article

and in the article is the following line with I thought, hmmm:

Quote
While at LinuxWorld, Joseph Cheek showed me his Sharp Zaurus SL-5500. Installed on it was a pre-Alpha of Desktop/LX Pocket PC Edition.

Any one know anything about this? Screenshots?

General Discussion / Open Embedded
« on: July 08, 2004, 09:50:19 am »
Hi all,

Have just read the Open Embedded News Letter Open Embedded Newsletter and I was left with a feeling of enthusiasm for Linux on my Zaurus that I've felt lacking for a while.

I quite like the look of the GPE screenshots and was wondering if anyone knows where there is a beta or even an alpha of Open Embedded for the Z5500 so I can have a little play or perhaps even help bug test.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Going back to tkROM for now
« on: June 08, 2004, 08:24:58 am »
I\'ve enjoyed my little foray into OZ, I think it\'s conceptually a much better OS than some of the other ROMs. The newer OZ ROMs are looking very attractive too :-)

I\'m just having to return to tkROM again because of my inability to install the applications I want to on OZ. I don\'t want to kill of my 5500, it still works and I\'ve looked after it well over the year and a bit that I\'ve had it.

I hope there is life in my 5500 yet!

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Web Browser for OZ
« on: June 07, 2004, 06:14:05 am »
Hey guys, just a general question.

If I want to put a web browser on OZ, should I use the Opera files that came with the Sharp Rom or is there a much better alternative?

Thanks,

Owen

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Hancom 1.5 Apps on OZ
« on: June 07, 2004, 06:11:02 am »
Hey guys, I know there is already a thread for Hancom 1.5 Word, which I actually still can\'t get to install :-( If anyone has created a working ipk for Hancom Word 1.5, please could you let me know and I\'ll give you my email address. Thanks!

I\'m also having a problem with the Sheet program. When I install it, it installs fine, but then when I tap the icon, I get an error message:

Code: [Select]
Could not start the application hancom sheet.

So my question is has anyone gotten all of the Hancom 1.5 Apps to work on OZ? If so, can we put the ipks somewhere in the download section of this site or can there be a detailed newbie friendly HowTo posted?

Thanks,

Owen

Software / Apache on OZ 3.2
« on: June 02, 2004, 11:53:49 am »
Hi guys,

I\'ve got OZ 3.2 on my Z5500.

I\'ve migrated the opt, home and root directories as suggested in this site:

 http://www.linux-migration.org

I\'ve installed the apache-1.3.27-php-4.2.3_0.1_arm.ipk successfully.

When I go to start apache I get the following:

Code: [Select]
# /home/www/bin/httpd start

httpd: bad group name nobody

So it\'s not starting up

Does anyone know if this is fixable?

Thanks,

Owen

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Installing Apps on OZ
« on: May 29, 2004, 01:40:48 pm »
Hi guys, I\'m very confused. When you installs apps on OZ, you get the choice of Root or Ram.

If you install it to the root, the app usually works fine. If you install it to the ram, it usually doesn\'t. Why\'s the root so small if you\'re meant to install everything to the Ram?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Installing to SD
« on: May 28, 2004, 01:58:47 pm »
Hi guys, under OZ, what can successfully be installed onto an SD card?

I managed to installed both MySQL and Apache, but neither would then run when activated :-(

Most things seem to fail during installation

Software / Decent Alternatives to Hancom Suite?
« on: May 28, 2004, 09:10:47 am »
Woohoo! So glad this site is here! Have only just found it :-( Was beginning to give up on my Zaurus. I know the oold 5500s are a bit long in the tooth, but I still like mine. :-)

I\'ve been trying out the OpenZaurus alternatives, since those seem to be the only ROMs for the 5500 that are being developed still (please feel free to correct me if I\'m wrong). Since I can\'t get the hancom office suite working on the OZ, my main question is...

Are there any decent alternatives to the Hancom Office Suite for the Zaurus, specifically in terms of word processor/spreadsheet?

Thanks,

Owen
