For Sale / Wanted / C-1000 + Leather Case + Wifi Card
« on: April 16, 2008, 12:40:38 pm »
Hi,

I have a C-1000, leather case and a WiFi card for it. As I have always used it with an SD and CF card, I've lost the original port covers. I have a compatible UK charger/power supply.

The battery for this has died and no longer holds a charge and I've seen this as a sign that it's time to move on, as I've barely used it in the last six months.

I'd rather not just bin it, as it still works perfectly fine when on mains power, and I don't see any reason to sell it without a working battery.

I wondered if anyone from the Zaurus development community could give it a good home?

I live in London UK, so if you're in the city, I can easily arrange to meet you somewhere central and just hand it to you. Otherwise, if you're willing to pay packaging and postage, I'll send it to you.

Let me know if anyone is interested,

Thanks!

Debian / Debian On A C1000
« on: January 02, 2008, 06:01:21 pm »
OK, changed this post as it's clearly possible to install debian on a C1000 now I've read more.

Can someone explain or point me towards an explanation of all the different EABIs/OABIs/Tinys/Pokeys as it's all a bit confusing.

What is best for a device with limits such as the C1000?

General Discussion / Breathing Life Into An Old Z
« on: January 02, 2008, 05:46:24 pm »
Hey guys,

I have a C1000 with a 1gb SD and a 256mb CF.

I'm desperate to give my Z new life. I love all these new UMPCs and I've even got one (though it's rather large really with a 7" display), but they are big, clunky, limited battery life and XP takes a good age to boot up or come out of hibernation.

I still take my Z places, switch it on (instantly), two taps and I have the app I need open. Plus it's way easier to type a little note or email on a crowded commuter train with your Z in your hands using your thumbs than with my UMPC needing a lap. lol

So what's the best thing to suggest? Stick with Cacko?

Or is there *finally* a similarly stable and responsive alternative?

Killer and essential apps:

Word processor
Spreadsheet
Web browser
PDF viewer

I've tried the pdaXii and all credit due it's very nice, but wasn't quite to my taste.

I think I need something a little more lightweight. Think Z for a mac user.... it just has to work ;-)

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdax On A C1000, Any Suggestions?
« on: November 27, 2007, 05:56:28 am »
I've been away from all things pdaX for ages now, all the lack of direction,  progress and bickering got tedious, anyway ancient history.

However, I'm giving my Z one last hurrah while I stump up the money for a clamshell UMPC.

I've a C1000 and these are my wants, needs:

basic pda stuff
Word processor - openoffice would be awesome, but that never seems to be available for the Z outside of Meanie's great add on to Cacko which I currently use.
Spreadsheet - openoffice again would be awesome.
(Anyone know what happened to the lightweight openoffice they were developing once upon a time for pda and low power pcs?)
I'd really like to run apache, mysql and php.
A decent editor to code with.

Now my linux skills are still very basic, my brain isn't one that copes well with faffing.

What would be the best version/set up for me?

Thanks

Sharp ROMs / Apache, Mysql, Php?
« on: November 25, 2007, 02:26:49 pm »
hey there,

been a long long time since I've used my C1000 Z, but I was wondering. Once upon a time, back in the old days of my 5500 you could install a very useful little applet that put on apache, mysql and php.

Does anything exist like that and is tried and tested for Cacko?

Thanks!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Forward Motion In Pdaxrom
« on: December 05, 2006, 08:40:41 am »
Hi guys,

I gave up on the Z and pdaXrom for a number of months, thought I'd pop back and see how much progress had been made.

I guess my suggestion for having pdaXrom opened up and for other developers get involved in pdaXrom wasn't such a bad one after all. It seems in all this time no real forward movement has been made. Which is a real shame :-(

If I'm wrong, please correct me, but I think this project seems to have died a death and it's a shame because so many people were so enthusiastic. It could have been avoided.

I love the new gnome, guess it can't run on the Z?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Gpe On C1000
« on: September 01, 2006, 05:19:19 pm »
Hi All

I hope this isn't a dense question. Probably is, oh well, here goes.

Is the Hentges Rom the only GPE/OZ that works on the C1000?

If there is another, how does it differ?

Thanks

Software / Gentoo/zaurus
« on: July 14, 2006, 04:54:45 am »
Hey there

I remember once a long time ago reading somewhere that someone was thinking of creating a gentoo for the Z. Or even a source based distro for the Z. Would probably take a millenia for the Z to compile anything natively I'd imagine. Gentoo takes days all by itself to set up.

Is this still happening or did it die a death?

Thanks

Sharp ROMs / Commas In Cacko
« on: July 13, 2006, 05:46:51 am »
Hi All

I'm currently using Cacko 1.23 and this doesn't come with the sticky shift and function enabled as in the Sharp ROM that I got from Shirt Pocket.

So I copied elements from the keyhelper file from the Sharp ROM into the keyhelper file for the Cacko.

My problem is the comma.

The comma and the forward slash are inverted in cacko, which is fine, don't want to change that particularly.

But I can't press and release shift and press the ,/ key and get a comma, I just get a forward slash. I have to hold shift and then press the ,/ to get a comma and if I then press the space bar I get a | which is what you get with shift and space bar. So the sticky shift is ignoring the comma.

Here's my keyhelper.xml file, I don't really understand it, I know it's probably pretty basic, but logic was never my specialty.

Any hints would be very much appreciated!

Thanks

General Discussion / Z Style Software On An Oqo
« on: July 03, 2006, 10:05:33 am »
Hi All

I was thinking, there are some cheap OQOs popping up on ebay all of a sudden. A lot of comments about OQOs are that XP runs way too sluggishly on the hardware.

The hardware in the OQO far outpowers the hardware in the Z.

Anyone know if there's a lightweight linux, Z alike, pda style OS distro that's being developed for the OQO.

I would imagine something like OZ would run phenominally fast on an OQO.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Wireless Access
« on: June 28, 2006, 11:33:24 am »
Hi All

I'm currently giving beta3 a renewed go, as that's supposedly the most stable for my C1000.

I have an Origo Wireless Compact Flash Card. Before I type startx, this card's green LED blinks in a continuous pattern, not the standard intermittent pattern of a connected wireless card. When I try and ping a website, it doesn't work.

I went into X and the blinking ceased. PdaXrom's CF/SD card calls this card a:

Code: [Select]
Seneo NL-2011CD PLUS Ext2 Mercury
Anyone else with this card? Anyone know how to get it working?

Thanks!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / What To Make Of The Results Of My Poll...
« on: June 24, 2006, 07:16:18 pm »
Hi All

Thanks to those of you who took part in my poll

I personally think the results are quite interesting so far, I hope you all agree.

If you've not looked recently or not voted, the link is:

Poll

Not entirely sure what to do with the results. It's quite an evenish split so far.

I guess a missed a question, I should have asked if those who are interested in developing pdaXrom are actually involved in developing it. Funny thing hindsight!

What's the next step? Any ideas what should now be done with the information that's been gathered? It's all very well and good finding out how many people are capable of and willing to develop pdaXrom if none of them actually are able to develop it in the future. So any thoughts?

If you did answer my Poll saying you had the skills to develop pdaXrom and were willing to do so, please PM me, I'd really like to know who you are.

Thanks again all who've voted and if you've not already done so, get voting!

Hi,

Where can I find the data within the sharp address book that's in the Cacko ROM?

Thanks!
