GPD Pocket - hardware / GPD micro pc 6" laptop
« on: February 15, 2019, 05:03:54 pm »
I like that they fitted every port you could ever need. I guess a mix/combination of this with the gpd pocket would be great.
It's nice to see the UMPC category of devices has been revived.

A discussion by The Phawx
https://youtu.be/UL2N1eE7agQ

Supplies will be limited because Intel are struggling to keep up demand.
Right at the end The Phawx says that GPD will be launching a non-intel based device, presumably because of Intel supply shortages..whether that means AMD or Arm wasn't stated.

New products and alternatives / Promising... ReadyFx

I did really like the firm factor of the HTC Vision and HTC Doubleshot phones I had where the keyboards slid out. I'd prefer that to the Gemini because you can use the phone as a regular all-screen slab without opening it like the Gemini.
It's a shame Motorola stopped making their Droid series; and Samsung only ever made one such phone, called the Relay.

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / Big announcement on 5th November
« on: November 06, 2018, 06:14:37 pm »
It's good that there's lively discussions. but...

Some of the comments in this thread were not in keeping with the high standards* we expect on this forum, so I either deleted them or edited.

Some of the comments were more quote than comment, so I pruned them. I know this forum's editor isn't the easiest to use, hopefully one day we'll be able to upgrade to something a bit better, but please try to only quote one previous comment in order to prevent quote overload.

Gemini PDA - Android / Using Three UK SIM and app in Android - "no SIM"
« on: October 29, 2018, 08:14:14 pm »
I updated to latest, and by chance I found if I turned ON the e-Sim, then the Three app stopped complaining about there being no SIM.

I can now click the "lets get started".. but after a while I get something like "something went wrong, try again, or come back later".

General Discussion / pocketables forum came back
« on: October 27, 2018, 05:14:53 pm »
there are a few of us who also hung out at the pocketables forum because we also owned UMPCs (I had a Fujitsu U820 / U2010)..

after a few years of crappy ownership and neglect of the pocketables "brand" by crowdgather, pocketables is now in the hands of Paul King who's rebuilding it, and now he's got the forums back online.

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / RiscOS on Gemini?
« on: October 26, 2018, 02:08:02 pm »
Now that RiscOS is open source, I wonder if anyone will try building it for the Gemini?

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/10/23/ri...os_open_source/

I'm not sure that anyone would use it as their primary OS, and you might not get many people trying it, but it's an interesting thing.

It would be interesting to do a side by side comparison of this One Mix Yoga, the top joy falcon, and the gpd pocket 2.

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / New firmware
« on: October 22, 2018, 04:45:56 pm »
I just upgraded by manually flashing (all partitions apart from recovery, linux, boot2, boot3 and userdata)

it was pretty painless, as people have said, the first boot takes a few minutes.

I'm disappointed that Planet didn't fix the speaker phase, despite someone having published a kernel for debian which fixes it.
