Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Sonkei Distribution?
« on: August 03, 2008, 08:15:36 pm »
Hi there,

I found your post by accident while googling for other stuff.  CoreDump and I are behind Sonkei.  So far we don't have any release to show, I am sorry.

Sonkei distribution has a dualGUI image with Opie and X, but there are still rough edges.

I suggest using openembedded.org for compilation

BTW, pdaXrom could benefit from OE without having to join Angstrom.  Sonkei did just that.  It is possible to create an overlay in OE where you define anything what you want to do differently, but you still benefit from any changes in areas that you choose to share the base.  If I am not mistaken, openmoko was the first project to make use of this overlay feature.  Give it a try.  pdaXrom would be back in business in no time.

Thanks, koan for your work.  I hope you consider joining the gakusei community.  FOSS is all about focal points and critical mass.

How do those of us yet without build environments have something compiled? Post a request in the bugtracker?
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
At the time, I considered this question, [a href=\"http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/mw/index.php/How_do_I_request_a_package_to_be_included_in_the_feeds]I would have answered "yes"[/url].

I have tryed once or twice.
The test imagess are with bugy screen calibration.
Then I've tryed to build image by myself.
After few hours bitbake give error in compiling some package, and I gave up.
I'm neether programer nor linux guru. I have some basic knowege, but not enought to understend what went wrong.
Yasen, thank you for trying things out.  Can I encourage you to try again?  First of all, I believe the screen calibration issues have been worked out in the meantime, updated images should be available.  Second, when you run into problems with compilation, please report them in the bug tracker.  If you drop by in IRC at #oe a lot times people will be able to fix the problem right away.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Problems Installing Angstrom

Details are in this message to the Angstrom list. Anyone here have any ideas? thks
I'd rather reply to the mailing list, but gmane.org is out of the loop for now :-(

You said you renamed both files to *.bin,  I think that is incorrect (I know this is not the way to go for the collie).  You should try with zImage, not zImage.bin.

Mind you, I need a new phone, I wonder if I can persuade my wife that a Greenphone would be a good idea?
idea 1) Trolltech is giving the Greenphone away for free
idea 2) get an Openmoko phone.  They have just been announced for shipment

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Hentges Akita Installation Fails (abandoned)
« on: June 30, 2007, 01:21:28 pm »
Well, I am sorry.  I should have read more carefully.  Hentges was a variant of OpenZaurus.  AFAIK, it is not updated any more since OpenZaurus which formed the base has also been phased out.

I guess your best option is to try http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/unstable/images/akita/ where I assume you will run into the same problem (I don't think the hentges images were faulty).  And after that, go to the mailing list to find out what the problem is.

At any rate, asking in OESF will likely not bring you forward quickly.

XorA has been doing work on Kazehakase for Angstrom lately.  My impression was that he liked it.  That is all I can say.

For Sale / Wanted / Wanted: Serial Cable For Zaurus
« on: June 30, 2007, 05:43:12 am »
contact me about the serial cable at oesf (AT) rolf.leggewie.biz.  I think I can help you.  I can provide a few original Sharp cables free of charge for those covering the cost of shipping from Germany.

Please indicate how your work benefits OpenEmbedded and its derived distributions such as Angstrom.  No private messages via the forum, please.
