Security and Networking / Connect To The Z Over Wlan And Ssh
« on: February 13, 2007, 08:57:03 pm »
Hi,

please consider the following situation:

1 Thinkpad X24 laptop with Zonet CF1100 CF wifi card
1 collie zaurus also with a Zonet CF1100 CF wifi card
1 wifi access point not under the control of the user that provides internet connectivity

I want

a) to connect to the Internet both from the Z and the laptop
b) ssh into the Z from the laptop over wifi

The problem is that the AP is set up such that even though both the Z and the computer have a 192.168.1.x IP, they cannot ping each other.

Is there a solution for this?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Problem With .desktop Files
« on: January 08, 2007, 12:05:00 pm »
Anybody ever had issues with installing opie apps and that broke opie itself?  It seems I have hit a strange bug where any new .desktop file in /opt/QtPalmtop/apps/Applications/ breaks my opie.  http://bugs.openembedded.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1757

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Bounty For Collie Sd Driver
« on: January 01, 2007, 01:17:37 pm »
Hi,

apparently, some information has recently become available via reverse engineering about the SD slot on the collie.  This means we have come a little bit closer to a native 2.6 kernel driver.  I have set up a bounty so that people interested in this can make publicly known how much they are willing to contribute financially if such a driver where developed.  Take a look at http://wiki.openzaurus.org/FAQ#SD_Card_related_questions and pledge, develop and discuss about the bounty in general.

5x00 General discussions / External Keyboard
« on: October 17, 2006, 05:45:56 pm »
Hi,

maybe this question has come up before but in that case I cannot spot it.  I wonder what external keyboards will work with the SL-5500.  I know the pocketop and copies of it (Micro Innovations) do.  But which others do you have working?

User Request for Applications / Hibernate For The Z?
« on: October 17, 2006, 07:34:39 am »
Hi,

I was wondering if it was possible to program something similar to the hibernate command for Linux computers.  hibernate saves the state of RAM and stores it on the swap partition AFAIK.  In any case, when the computer is awoken from this hibernate state it boots up, recognizes the hibernate file being present and restores the session.

This makes it possible for example to hibernate a laptop, switch the battery and turn it back on without loosing any work (even stuff that is not saved).  Shouldn't it be possible to have something similar for the Z?

Hibernate is just a bash script on the desktop.  Despite looking at it I was unable to find out exactly what command it is that invokes the hibernation and if that command is already present for the Z.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Japanese Input On Opie
« on: August 27, 2006, 02:49:32 pm »
Hi,

openembedded.org and thus OpenZaurus does include input methods for the Japanese language now.

I have uploaded ipk for the collie (SL-5500) at the gakusei community for those who do not want to compile themselves.  Both keyboard and handwriting recognition input are available as well as dependencies which can not be fulfilled from the official feeds.

Try them out, have fun and let me know if you find any bugs.  If I find out how to compile for other machines without breaking my collie setup, I will release ipk for other machines as well.

Ciao

Rolf

OpenZaurus/Opie/Qtopia / Japanese Input Method
« on: February 08, 2006, 08:03:01 pm »
Hi,

pH5 has recently made public his work on a bb file to compile anthy and it works.  The bb file should be in the OE tree by now so "bitbake anthy" should just work.  If the bb file is not yet in, just go over to http://gakusei.sf.net and grab the diff.

The only thing missing now before we have a Japanese input method on all OE-derived distros is the frontend.  imkit-anthy did that job on my Sharp ROM and I'd like to try and compile it in OE.  The source code is available from http://prdownloads.sourceforge.jp/zaurus-j...it-0.4.5.tar.gz

It looks like this package uses tmake (take a look at the .pro files) with which I am not familiar at all.  How do I compile via tmake on OE?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / How To Switch To Oz
« on: January 05, 2006, 08:03:12 pm »
Hi,

I intend to switch to Openzaurus.  I have two questions.

1) How do I transfer/sync data especially in the address book to use it later in OZ?
2) How do I flash back to Sharp ROM?  I will need to go back and forth a few times before I can switch 100%.  Is there a way from Unix since that is my desktop environment.

Sharp ROMs / Japanese Input Method From Source
« on: February 24, 2005, 12:04:11 pm »
Hi,

as mentioned on http://zaurus.biojapan.de/crim/SL5500_CRIM.html, Sharp released their ROM code under the GPL.  I always thought that included CRIM (the Japanese hand-writing recognition) as well, but I cannot seem to find the source files in any of the files linked from http://developer.ezaurus.com/sl_j/source/source_dl_a300.htm.  Was I mistaken about my assumption with respect to the hand-writing recognition?

Site Suggestions, Requests, and Updates / Lo-fi Version
« on: January 22, 2005, 07:47:18 pm »
Just came across the lo-fi version. AWESOME!  Previously the board was not really usable from the Z itself, now I assume that should be possible and consume less bandwidth which might come at a premium when one is on the road.  Just wanted to say good work!  It appears that posting from the lo-fi version does not work yet, though.
