Whew - $199. That's cool but I don't need that functionality personally for that cost. This would be great for those always typing in the dark though.

Sharp ROMs / Pyqt Available For Cacko Rom

The latest version is actually only about 8.6 megs, which may be a bit less overkill.

The USA is so behind on cell phones we'll probably see this in two years if at all

But it does look nice. Not sure if I'll be convinced to switch away from my very tiny flip-Motorola phone, since when I want to browse the 'net I'm not sure I really *want* something much smaller than the 640x480 Zaurus screens...

Software / Supertux On Sl-c860
« on: February 14, 2005, 11:50:43 pm »
Hmm, it's not working for me. For one thing, the download had a bad CRC in the control. That probably is what caused the installer to blow.

When I tried to install it manually, I'm hampered by the lack of sudo on the Sharp ROMs. A standard mount gives me the error "can't find /home/zaurus/card/QtPalmtop/share/supertux.cramfs in /etc/fstab", so that's not working. Guess I need to find a sudo package?

At the risk of getting wrath from the Copyright Gods, I suggest looking at "abandonware" sites on Google if you don't have Usenet. I even can give you a direct link to an abandonware site (I actually found several with TT on it).

Yeah, it ran, though I didn't play with it. Too much room!  Unfortunately us 6000 users don't have an alternate ROM so that we can get rid of Sharp bloat yet. I should go in and re-format my card as ext2 sometime.

theKompany still seems to be supporting the Zaurus so far... they recently released a new version of the tkcMedia player for instance.

Accessories / Which Ir Keyboard

It's more expensive than $50 (so is the Pocketop I think), but I like my Targus Universal keyboard so far. The keys are really nice feeling, the only weird thing is the split space, but you get used to it. The somewhat flimsy stand mechanism is both good and band (good that you have a stand, bad that its flimsy and weird.)

Looks like there is one here.

SQLite is also available on most feeds.

dwagelaar: Yeah, unfortunately Cacko isn't available for the SL-6000L yet. Lousy bulky Sharp ROM.

I personally couldn't run it from a card because my card is unfortunately formatted FAT. A few of the files (the credits file and a couple music files) are upper-case and thus Supertux can't find them. EXT2 formatted cards however should be able to run the program just fine.

Sharp ROMs / Cacko Rom 1.22 Lite Is Available!
« on: February 07, 2005, 11:35:38 am »
I'm not sure why the Cacko feed doesn't want browsable directories like other feeds (probably bandwidth?). But you can always go to the Packages file and copy and paste to do a direct DL to the PC.

For example, the Netfront package is netfront_3.1-lite-1_arm.ipk. Copy and paste the current feed URL (http://bryandeluca.com/cacko/feed/) in front of that package name, and you get http://bryandeluca.com/cacko/feed/netfront...-lite-1_arm.ipk.

You can also, if you want, do a network install just as well.

Hopefully this helps.

As an aside, for Sharp ROM users (eg us SL-6000L users who don't have a good ROM alternative yet  ), the seperated Netfront browser seems to work pretty well (except oddly I had troubles changing the homepage, but no big deal). Good for those Sharp ROM folks looking for an alternative browser.

Security and Networking / Captured Packets

I think analyzing and cracking WEP passwords is not advisable with something as slow as the Zaurus.

Rather than waste the effort, I would think it would be easier to call your Helpless Desk and get authenticated the right way. A lot of work places rightly go beyond simple static WEP these days (for example, where I work uses Cisco's LEAP authentication). You won't see this in Wellenreiter.

You can always copy the packets to another machine and use WEPCrack (Win) / Airsnort (Linux), if you really think its worth the effort.

6000 - Tosa / Looking For Advice!

What I use the Z for:

(*) Syncing (via FTP) and transferring files between work and home.
(*) Viewing some of these files (Excel, HTML, and PDF.)
(*) On-the-go editing of a to do list (I use Zedit for my to do list frankly, I'm a sucker for text editors  and this one is nice, definitely my most used program)
(*) On-the-go calculator and contact list.
(*) Remote Internet access; also Internet access at home when I don't want to turn on my behemoth PC, when I want to browse while watching TV, etc.
(*) Storing addresses
(*) Portable calculator
(*) Portable game device
(*) As a device to learn Python on
