Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Problems Installing Opera
« on: May 25, 2005, 10:53:54 am »
Hi,

Just a note to state that the above instructions work great...

I still see the (minor) issue, where popup dialogs, like
"Really Exit?" require a normal click on the button, and
then a cllick anywhere in the window, to be closed.

Other than that, 7.55 is seems to be working great on
my SL-5500 with OZ 3.5.3...

I moved the contents of /opt to my SD and created a symlink, and ...

I'm not sure /opt can be moved without causing other issue, so
do not try this.

Hi,

I was able to find and delete most of the stuff the failing "make compat"
command created.

I moved the contents of /opt to my SD and created a symlink, and
I got Opera running, this time trying 7.30, and it runs, but sluggish,
and seems to paint "alert"/"confirmation" windows continuously,
and they seem to require 2 clicks at least to the button press to work.

I'm happy for the moment now on 3.5.3 with Opera, until I try some
other browsers later.

Later,  John

Darn!  I should have read the whole topic before trying the
"makecompat opera" in /media/card/packages/opt/QtPalmtop/bin

** SO, I'm out of free space, hoping perhaps I can find out and
delete what is eating the space.  (Hints are welcome)

I really don't want to start again, reflashing, and even if I did, I'm
not sure of "the proper" way to get this Opera 7.55 up and running
on a fresh 3.5.3 OZ.  By default it failed as stated in previous posts
with:

opera: symbol lookup error: opera: undefined symbol: _7QString.shared_null

I have learned a lot from this forum over the weekend, and moved
/usr/lib/ipkg to my SD card, to avoid losing space when I install
(even to SD), even gained 300K on / in the process.

I will include the output below, for folks who may be interested in what
happens on an SL-5500.  I'm using the 48-16 zImage in case that is relevant.

Any chance of getting an RC10 for SL-5500?  I'm pulling my
hair out trying to get an X11-based system running using
other ROMS, etc. this weekend...

Yes, I saw the Calendar app coming up last time I tried the GPE 3.5.3...

I saw other onscreen keyboard issues as well, but can't remember the details.

Sharp ROMs / Cacko Kernel For Sl-5500/5000d
« on: May 10, 2005, 11:27:27 am »
Hi!

Yes, I found the apps there, and I just (last night) started to check
out the cacko ROM.  So far, I really, really like it.  Unfortunately I've
been running into problems with the version of Opera in that is in
that .zip file.  I don't remember the exact errors, but it would not
install, and complained about the tar format...

I was able to install jeode, and the jeode demos, but have not tried
to use them yet.

If anyone else knows what's going on with the Opera in that .zip, or
has a pointer to another one, that would be cool.

Many thanks,

John

Does anyone know if the "applications that have been removed" are available
anywhere?  The link seems to have been dead for months.  Many thanks for
any info.

Same issue on SL-5500.  I've been wanting to check this
program out in more detail, I've briefly used it with other ROMs.

Hoping a fix comes forth also...

Hi,

I'm still toying with this release, but not sure how wireless networking
control is supposed to function.  I can create a connection over WEP
and use the Z as an X server OK.

But, I'm confused as to why the network seems to not come up on a
boot with a CF Wifi card in.  If I pull it, and re-insert it, the network
will come up.

I"m also wondering why "cardctl status" does not show any information
for socket 1, when I have an SD card in.

Anyway, this release seems very cool, and I look forward to playing with
it over the weekend, and figuring out how to install and manage packages
on SD.   Then it's on to getting JAVA working.

Make sure you've linked it to root (ipkg-link mount /media/sd/packages, for example), then log out and log in and the shortcut should appear in the 'Others' category
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=74791\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I need to hunt for, and read up on this "ipkg link" command.  I do not see
it listed in the "help" that is produced by invoking "ipkg" with no arguments.

I'm also new to the 64-0 kernel usage, so in the past I have just installed
packages using "ipkg install foo.ipk".  I guess I will have to wait until I get
out of work today to research this stuff.

I have konqueror displayed remotely on the Z in the meantime

I've installed minimo, and it shows up in "ipkg list".

How do I invoke it?  (I can't find it ! )

Many thanks,

Hi,

I used a Socket wifi card with my SL-5000 when I got the WEP connection
working.  Today, at work, I briefly used my Linksys wifi card to get a
connection (WEP not in use there).  I was actually surprised to see a connection
was established, as I did not change any info in any of the setup tabs, and
it was still set to use WEP, and with my key from home.

I do not remember the details of what I did to setup the eth0 device in
"network setup", but as I remember, I did nothing special, just filled out
the "dialogs", provided my WEP key, etc.

If I remember correctly I saw "managed" today, in the wifi popup, if that
helps.  I can look in detail later, to see what I have specified in all of the
tabs, if you are stuck.  I get the impression you are experiencing issues
due to the wifi card you are using...
