Zaurus - pdaXrom / Scummvm 0.8.0, Another Great Release
« on: December 03, 2005, 12:15:36 pm »
Well, that's really strange. If you are using the latest RC12, it should run out of the box, but my only guess would be it is due to the SL-C3100, after all there is none available for pdaX developpers for testing, and maybe iWMMX isn't totally supported yet. You should make sure you are using the RC12 feed as well (mainly the SDL packages), but I suppose you are already. Maybe other SL-C3100 user could see if they have the same error ?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Scummvm 0.8.0, Another Great Release
« on: December 03, 2005, 09:38:17 am »
Greetings,

I compiled ScummVM 0.8.0 for iWMMX PXA270 (ie SL-Cxx00 on RC12). It works great in 640x480 fullscreen (instead of 320x240 with older versions). All your Lucas Art games should run (including Monkey Island 3 if you set your CPU @ 624 Mhz) and a lot more (Beneath a Steel Sky, Fight of the Amazon Queen, Broken Sword ... are freely downloadable on http://www.scummvm.org/downloads.php). MP3-Compressed monster.so3 is supported with DOTT (tested and recommanded) but .sog OGG-compressed won't work.

Please report any wrong behaviour. IPK is here : http://zaurus.maxg.info/

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxrom Visual Image Builder First Beta

Truely outstanding ! We may expect pdaXrom/XFCE or pdaXrom/iceWM initrd.bin in a near future I guess ... and the tool really works like a charm.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Openoffice On Pdaxrom
« on: November 24, 2005, 04:53:20 pm »
glibc 2.3.5 compiles (with some patching, that is, and there are some configure errors as well ; it takes half a day for a native build supported by a distcc PC) but many apps get broken and X seems to have bugs. The only way to update to 2.3 is to have sashz port and build the feed using it.

Openoffice just doesn't compile, you may try but you will get too many errors to have the slightest hope to make a full working build.

General Discussion / C1000 Battery Problem
« on: November 11, 2005, 08:11:18 pm »
Seems to me that your battery actually died of undercharger ... this may occur sometimes, but trying to start the zaurus five times in a row wans't exactly a good idea.
According to http://www.batteryuniversity.com/partone-12.htm on batteryuniversity, a battery can die if it reaches 2.5V, but you can actually restore it with specific chargers.

Batteries are usually not covered by warranties and zaurus makes no exception. If you want tu buy a new battery, you may consier purchasing a 2000mAh high capacity battery @ lion (see the thread in "Accessories" forum), international shipping being $9. EA-BL08 on amazon being the best value for money around... or you may try to build your own battery (a PSP battery is a good start). Good luck !

Yep, they actually work for slightly shorter time as a natural drawback...

Accessories / Appears 2b New High Capacity Battery

Could OESF members have a small rebate on those batteries ? I'd be actually interested in giving it a try, since I'm currently testing various zaurus batteries and this one should definitely have a place in the list. Between - your shipping options are really great. $9 Global Priority Mail seems rather honest to me, and it deserves to be noticed given the various outrageous fees on some US shops for international delivery.
Thank you for pointing those out, by the way.

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Build Cheap Replacement Batteries ?
« on: October 23, 2005, 04:11:02 pm »
After some hardcore modding of my SL-C1000 (adding internal 512Mb flash + Wifi ...) I think I slightly fried my battery (yes, it made a nice frying noise and leaked some odd and probably toxical stuff ...) but anyway, a replacement costs at least $80 which is naturally a lot too much.
So I had the idea of building my own battery, got the idea because I use a PSP charger and it occured that PSP uses a 3.7V 1800mAh battery, ie exactly the same specs than the Zaurus'. I found a kinda no name one for 30€ and opened it. It's exactly the same size and it fits the zaurus battery slot well, exept for the very different plug the PSP battery has. I tested the battery pins and there is a ground, a charing + and a debit +, but not in the same order (ground is in the middle).

Does anyone here ever tried to build a battery this way ? Do you think it may work if I add connectors to the correct battery pins (I don't see why it wouldn't). Thanks for any advice !

« on: August 25, 2005, 04:55:10 pm »
OK, it's good to know, I'll try to add w100 and bvdd support once I can find the damn source package ; currently it is still not available.

No, it's the original 0.7.1, the only improvement is support for new games that the version in the feed can't run.

Thanks, but the source package is still not available, it returns 403 for /WebSDN/ ... If someone has this source package, I'm interested in compiling it for pdaXrom.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Keep Pdaxrom Alive
« on: August 16, 2005, 03:19:21 pm »
Ahahah, I love those scams, but my all time favorites are the "I'm a millionaire in Panama but I'll die soon so I need your accout to deposit my fortune please give me your bank number thanks"
Back to the IPK problem ; you should keep old versions of apps even if a newer one was uploaded, and leave a "broken version" link to report non working software. Having old release is also a good idea if there are some brocken backward compatibility with other softwares. Nice progress, though, I'm waiting for the new website with tons of ipks to post.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Keep Pdaxrom Alive
« on: August 16, 2005, 01:00:47 pm »
My suggestion to keep pdaXrom more alive would be to accept more help from other people. For example, I think you should delegate the task of managing the ipk feeds and focus on the core developpment (kernel, X server, hardware). Of course the pdabuilder helps a lot, but still, it may be good to have someone to take care of keeping all pacakges up to date, port and compile new versions and post new programs (ie merge the "user contributed" feed, which has great stuff inside but is mostly outdated, and the official feeds in a single pdaX feed). Of course, I volunteer to do the job. I can even offer to host the files on my server.
Otherwise, maybe it would be better to delegate website and doc-related works or maybe create a Wiki ?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Ipk Forgot What It Installed
« on: August 12, 2005, 03:48:32 am »
When you restart the Zaurus, you should wait 5 minutes or so until all packages on the SD are relinked by ipkg-link. gcc-headers takes several minutes beacause it las a lot of small files. Check with `ps` to see if all ipkg-link are done, and startx and see it there is any progress made. If the package still aren't seen by the manager, you could just use the command line ipkg -d sd and that will probably work.
