Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Install Problem
« on: January 02, 2005, 10:15:00 pm »
Yeah, I bumped the partition size up to 45Megs, and it appears to install and boot normally, but I get a sideways welcome screen inviting me to tap on the screen. Unfortunately tapping on the screen doesn't appear to do much.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Install Problem
« on: January 02, 2005, 09:29:40 pm »
OK, I've been using the cacko ROM and pretty happy except for the syncing, so it's time to try out OpenZaurus. But I can't seem to install it. I think part of the problem is the complete lack of documentation. So I'll tell everybody what I've done, and maybe somebody can tell me what I'm doing wrong.

OK, first of I have downloaded opie-image.rootfs.img, updater.sh, and zimage.bin.C750 from http://oz.hentges.net/mirror/oz3.5.2/c7x0,c8x0/ and renamed the files to initrd.bin, updater.sh, and zImage respectfully. I placed them on my CF card and did the appropriate things. Things appear to progress normally, but all I get after booting is a disabled window bigger than the screen going on about search parameters. I'm kind of disappointed because usually when flashing goes bad it's much more spectacular.

So, any ideas? Are there any restrictions on the size of the flash partition needed? Is the root image really 14 Megs, or what?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pkgconfig Question
« on: January 02, 2005, 03:06:35 pm »
Hello,
I have a little time to play around and I really want to get Evolution working on RC8. However, when I try to compile I get an error that libgtkhtml-3.1 can't be found. I'm a Perl and Java developer, and I know almost nothing about compiling regular applications. What exactly does error this mean? I assume that the SDK does not include a library that Evolution is looking for. Am I right on that? If so, how does one go about adding libraries to the SDK?

BTW, I have compiled gnokii and rsync anf have it up on my website. I am going to try xmame next.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / About Openoffice

Gnumeric is OK, but Abiword butchers my documents. I use OpenOffice at home and at work, but it runs godawfully slow on my desktop, so I can't imagine how they would run on my Z even though it would be nice to have the option.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Evolution Anyone?
« on: December 20, 2004, 12:14:26 am »
Just to keep replying to my own posts...

Evolution 1.5.9 seems to do much better except for the following:

checking for libgtkhtml-3.1... Package libgtkhtml-3.1 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `libgtkhtml-3.1.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'libgtkhtml-3.1' found

I am sure there are other problems, but this is where the bottle stopped spinning this time. :-)

Well,

I took a whack at getting this puppy to compile but I can't get around some db3 errors. Please understand I don't know squat about compiling stuff, I'm just groping around in the dark here. The first error I get is that db3 3.1.17 is required, so I installed it. I still get the error, but if I specify the right path to db.h then it complains that it can't find the right library. I even tried updating the requirements to 3.2.9 (which is what is currently installed on by box) and I get the same error. If I compile natively, I don't get the db3 errors, but I get some other errors.

I chose 1.4.6 because it seems to be the most common version in use right now. Namely, I use that version at work, and I know MultiSync works with that version.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Evolution Anyone?
« on: December 19, 2004, 10:04:42 pm »
Hello,

I know Evolution is a bit beefy for the Zaurus (SLC-750), but I already use it on the desktop and with MultiSync the syncing would be awesome. I have tried KO/PI but while the Zaurus part is nice, getting a desktop version up and running is painful. I have not tried to sync between them yet because my wifi card died just after getting KO/PI installed on my Zaurus. I use RHFC2 at work and debian Sarge at home, and Evolution is readily available for both, but KO/PI is not. However, the KO/PI documentation for getting it running on the desktop is awful, so I could very well be missing something.

Well anyway, if anybody comes up with and Evlolution IPK I would be happy to be a tester. I don't need any funky plugins or anything.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / A Couple New Packages

Thanks, but I tried that about two hours in. :-) The error I get is "can not set frequency" or something like that. I got a new card, works like a champ.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Sun J2sdk 1.4.2 For Pdaxrom

On my todo list is try out the Jeode JVM with a hacked Swing jar file I have on PDAXROM. It obviously won't support 1.4 and 1.5 specific javaisms, but it would be better than a poke in the eye.

Hey, I tried to compile a whole bunch of stuff I would like to use on my SLC-750 running PDAXROM, but so far I've only had success with a couple. But, I really haven't tried that hard yet, rsync and gnokii played nice out of the box. Unfortunately these really aren't tested. I had a problem that turned out to be a just-barely-defective-enough-to-not-work D-Link DCF-660W wireless card. During my several days of troubleshooting I flashed my Zaurus with Cacko ROM since the card worked well with that ROM. But I think it got zapped with static electricity or something, and just won't work now for some reason even though it acts like it should. So now I am waiting for RC6 to flash it again, and haven't tested these IPK's.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Irda Nokia Connection
« on: November 29, 2004, 11:20:38 am »
Well, looks like I'm going to be too busy to work on this for a while. I can get it to work pretty easy under windows, so my next step is to get irda working on my laptop under linux and try it with that. As for my settings, I am dialing into a computer at work, so I pretty much control both ends. My coworker has no problems using linux and a traditional modem, which is why I thought it might be something wrong with pdaXrom. His setup won't work on my zaurus. I guess I just need to spend a few more nights figuring out what the problem is.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Irda Nokia Connection
« on: November 24, 2004, 10:52:53 am »
Well, I guess this is an update. I have given up on gnokiid since it never reports that it connects. Using straight up irda I can connect to my ISP with minicom, but when I try to connect with pppd I get the following:

  chat:  Nov 21 20:00:48 CONNECT 9600
  Serial connection established.
  Using interface ppp0
  Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ircomm0
  Modem hangup
  Connection terminated.
  bash-3.00#

The annoying thing is that it seems that no pppd option that I try seems to have any effect. Any help would be appreciated.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Irda Nokia Connection
« on: November 22, 2004, 10:49:18 pm »
Howdy Folks,

I am generally having fun with RC5 on my c750, but I am trying to get irda working to use my Nokia 8290 as a modem. I found a page (http://www.insomniq.com/files/zaurus/IrDA-HOWTO.html) so I think it is theoretically possible. I have gotten further with my Zaurus than with my laptop, though. :-)

First prong of attack is to us a conventional approach. Namely, the pdaxrom PPP tools and /dev/ircomm0. I go to dial and the connection tool tells me what I can go do with myself.

The second prong of attack is to use gnokii. I have used the SDK and now have 0.6.4 installed. xgnokii is waaaaaaay cool running on the zaurus, BTW! Anyway, I can talk to the phone just fine, jack with contacts, send SMS's, etc. When I run gnokiid a gnokii device is created as expected. When I point pppd at it I get much further, namely an OK back, but then I get an ERROR and it goes downhill after that.

So, my main question is, does anybody else using thier Nokia as a modem via IR? I don't have much experience with dialup. Does anybody have any suggestions? Does anybody have a minicom IPK handy so that I can poke about?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / C750 -> pdaXrom 1.1.0 Kathrin RC5
« on: November 21, 2004, 04:24:42 pm »
I'm no stranger to flashing my Zaurus. :-) It turns out that falshing from the CF card works, flashing form the SD card does not. I have had some trouble with my Sandisk 256 Meg SD card before, so it looks like it has gotten me again.

I tried to RTFM but couldn't find one. Is it possible to run RC5 on an SLC-750? It acts like the partition isn't big enough. How big does it have to be?
