Mine got here, no signature required, strangely. So far pretty great with a few oddities, but this thing is awesome!

Gemini PDA - Android / Sophos virus result on WirelessUpdate
« on: May 04, 2018, 06:20:56 pm »
Any thoughts on Sophos identifying WirelessUpdate as "Andr/Xgen2-P" virus / PUA? I haven't been able to find much info on this result and Sophos doesn't provide an option to remove it unlike for the "low reputation" Gemini branded apps (which I obvious won't be uninstalling).

In the US, expecting to receive shipment of my Gemini units today via UPS and possibly DHL (UPS may be a local subcontractor for DHL here, unsure). First got shipment notification on May 2nd this week, so delivery time is great if it holds. Super excited!

I just got a conformation that there won't be either Belgian keyboard because of insufficient uptake.
Belgian (Wallonian) is replaced with the French Azerty keyboard and Belgian (Flemish) will be US Qwerty.

The UK and US keyboard layouts have been finalised, notice the change of the enter-key on the US keyboard:

Thanks for your posts, notes added for both.

Once the device is out, with the level of news sources reporting on it, I think a page will very likely survive. It does need to be neutral in tone and factual however, for it to not get deleted. We'll also need to make sure that all statements are sourced and cited from a third party news source.

I like JuiceSSH:

and the Hacker's keyboard makes life much better:

Yeah I use both of these as well and like them. The advantage of ZShaolin is that it runs locally, so they serve different use cases. JuiceSSH is a lot easier to use to just get into a remote box though.

Spanish and Russian layouts were shown in the 2017-07-12 update, below the revised UK layout.

Thanks for the catch, this has been updated.

Gemini PDA - Android / Helio X27 Root and removing GAPPS ?

The strange aspect of this is that they are shipping with Linux support out of the box. This almost by definition requires rooting does it not?

I think if running Android and Linux at the same time is important to you, you'd be better off with something like GNURoot which creates a complete GNU/Linux environment on top of Android. This even runs XWindows which you connect to using a VNC client. From what I've seen, the GUI actually is pretty minimal, not a full DE, so it may not meet your needs.

Apparently the guy who wrote it also got Runescape running this way on Android, which is awesome and ridiculous at the same time. Anyway just serves to point out that it seems to work pretty well, with enough hacking I imagine it could do just about anything. This and similar tools do require the device be rooted however.

Personally I use ZShaolin most of the time on my Android tablet to get a usable terminal and reasonable local tools (git, vim, etc.). It is a bit more light weight and serves my sysadmin type needs when I'm remote. Also good because it doesn't require the device to be rooted. I believe this isn't an issue on the Gemini (hopefully) but we'll see...

From Twitter:

Hi. I had a query about the keyboards on the Gemini. On the keyboard questionnaire, it differentiates between different variants of the UK keyboard, including one for use in the UK, and another for use in Europe. What're the differences between these keyboards?

Replying to @Tempest84
There is no difference between keyboard layouts. Just the plug type is different.

Ah okay I was wondering on that. Could we assume that this applies to the US International as well? What plug would that be exactly? I am from the US, order a lot of gear from the UK, and have only traveled to Canada (very briefly) and Korea so I am not personally familiar with most plug types.

I will update the list to mark all of those languages as YES with a note that we believe they are the same layout based on this source.
