I experienced the random shutdown issue with Oreo - I contacted Planet and they advised re-flashing back to 7 until they figured out what was causing the issue. Seems to be related to the battery calibration as far as I can tell but meditek haven't been able to pinpoint it yet. Back to 7 it is for me....

Nothing here as well, and no reports from others yet (just checked on IRC/Telegram/Facebook/Indiegogo), though there's a message from Mike on FB saying that it began rolling out to some devices yesterday, and will expand to all devices over the coming days. Keep in mind that this is the OTA release for unrooted, Android-only Wifi+LTE models, the files for the manual installation will be released in a couple of weeks.

Planer computers doesn't out right lie in their communications... but they have always bern very creative with the truth. When they talk about rolling out to a limited number of devices initially, they could simply mean they are rolling out to a couple of developer devices in house.

Varti, where is your source for the couple of weeks for release of manual installation files?

I'd imagine this is fairly typical - prove it works seamlessly before rolling out to the wider user base. This is the first time planet have done an OS update so I can imagine its a big deal for them.

Google have approved the latest Gemini OS build - so fingers crossed will be available shortly. Wonder what improvements have been made this time?

Yes - looks like Planet have addressed most of the shortcomings of the Gemini. Very excited about this.
My wishlist....
- hopefully a stiffer, more robust hinge - less creaky - especially withthe extra weight on the back of the screen
- less wobble on keys (stiffer action)
- be great if they could get the camera bump flush with the case
- better speakers (more bass - less tinny)
- scratch proof glass on external display
- wish they could make the battery bigger
- a key combination to mute sound (not just the mic)
- keys which don't discolour with use
- volume control when device is closed
- less 'bendy' metal on casing - feels a bit thin
- better glue on the rubber strip
- ship with the right chipset!
And I'd add - don't use Hermes for delivery anymore!

Varti

lol - this s so true!

Personally, I think it’s a great improvement over the Gemini, even if the price is justifiably higher. The Cosmo is even closer of being an all-in-one portable device than the Gemini or, quoting Planet, “(…) the only device that you need to carry around with you.”

A new clamshell device has been announced by Planet Computers: the Cosmo Communicator, which can be already funded from its new Indiegogo page:

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/cosmo-communicator#/

 [ Invalid Attachment ]

Compared to the Gemini PDA, this new device has a number of improvements over its predecessor, including:

-   An external colour touch screen for call control and notification
-   An external 24MP camera by default, with zoom and flash capabilities
-   6GB of RAM instead of 4, and a larger, 128GB internal memory storage
-   The keyboard is now backlit
-   NFC and a fingerprint sensor are integrated
-
As of now, they have already reached $94,782 out of the $200,000 funding goal.

I'm in already!

A bit of an emphasis on 'out of this world & given the company is called Planet I think we might be looking at their next PDA - the Planet Saturn.

Yeah - next chapter sounds significant. Thought change was in the air when Robin left.
Maybe they are renaming themselves Psion Computers??

Sounds like a new product launch??

Made a DB with entries then tried to edit the cover and it keeps crashing.
Anyone has the same problem?

Yeah - same here - changing my DPI back to the normal size seemed to work - feels pretty buggy

Same problem here
Before the update, the silver button launched the voice assistant, now it doesn't. Also Fn+space doesn't do anything. All settings are correct, nothing happens...

Uninstall and reinstall voice assistant from the store worked for me.

It didn't work for me unfortunately....

try clearing the google assistant and Gemini voice cache too

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / New firmware
« on: October 11, 2018, 10:43:09 am »
OK upgraded my X25 4G Gemini yesterday

- when I tried to install I got an error message - smcard full or something like that - rebooted and went perfectly at second attempt
- set up screen is presented on bot - very simple and elegant set up procedure. Much improved
- the Data app is included - seems like a good start but feels like it's in beta. Needs to have an import ability. It's not clear to me whether this is backed up in any way - so risk of data loss if you have to flash your Gemini? Also when you try and add an image to the cover of your database it crashes
- the Agenda app has been upgraded to include a new view. it's pretty nice. I have my DPI set at 600 - which unfortunately leaves a white bar at the top of the screen
- there are some more Gemini settings - you can toggle Fn Space and the smart button on and off
- my Gemini now responds to volume, next track, start stop, ff, rw via bluetooth when closed
- google assistant now works when closed - I had to reinstall Gemini Voice Assistant from the play store to get the buttons to respond
- I haven't noticed any change to LEDson
- Bluetooth seems a lot more stable - I had issues with it randomly turning off. Haven't seen this issue since the upgrade - so far so good
- there is still an issue with the A Bar - if you un-check AutoHide it intercepts keystrokes making the device unusable. Leave this on!
- I use Nova but new firmware has Launcher 3 installed I think (not sure if this is new since the last firmware??)
- Backing up Notes causes a crash
- Speakers sound MUCH better

Overall a really good update restoring some lost functionality and some new stuff to boot. Well done Planet!
