Will JSword run on the C1000?  (I know it requires Java which appears to be OK: http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/custom.html#java

I have QPSword running on my C1000 but am not real happy with the way it looks and
it is quite old (2003).

JSword seems to be more current.

Will have to see to Java and then try JSword.

In testing OpenZaurus 3.5.4, I also ran across Dagger from the Sword project. Its available from the Sword project web page as well as in the OZ 3.5.3 feeds.

The interface is much improved over QPsword. although admit that I haven't tried JSword.

[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=115517\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Which version would you recommend for the C1000?

Download

Source code

    * dagger-0.9.3.tar.bz2

Binary packages for OpenZaurus 3.5.3 or Familiar 0.8.2

For StrongArm-based devices (iPaq 36xx/37xx, Zaurus 5500, etc.)

    * Sword v1.5.8
    * Dagger v0.9.3

For XScale-based devices (Zaurus C7x0/8x0, 6000, etc.)

    * Sword v1.5.8
    * Dagger v0.9.3

Also, is there any reason to believe that JSword would not run on the C1000
based on what you see in the Java available to the C1000 and the requirements
of JSword?

These are very tempting.

That is what is in my C1000 right now.

If the CF slot in my 5500 can be restored it may go there.

I didn't notice but I suspect there may be a shipping cost on top
of the $29.99 Buy Now price?

Also, from what I read when I loaded the app to get the C1000
to see the SanDisk CF Wireless/Memory Combo Card one may
not use both features simultaneously.

Also, the card must be activated from Terminal mode, there is
not yet a GUI activation app.  Also, one must return to the Terminal
to switch between Wireless and Memory.  I have also observed that
if left in Wireless mode the CF slot is captured even if the SanDisk
has been properly ejected.  One must remember to switch to Memory
mode prior to ejecting the SanDisk else the CF slot is unusable.

edoc: search in diag menu for 'clear reset flag' entry so you will get out of it.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=115430\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

On Page 3 of 3 I see 1, 4, 7, and 10 are available and #4 is Clear Diag Flag.

When I select it I get:

Clear Diag Boot Flag
Flag = none
----:(FFFFFFF).

Then I press the center of the "joystick" and back to the Diag Menu.

If you know how to do a JTAG flash, you could restore this to new condition in a jiffy.  You could also use it for spare parts.  All the parts on this are in perfect condition.

Was it the Sharp rom 5500 that you tried to flash?
Your zaurus is not necessarily a brick.. and it wont necessarily take a jtag to get it back

How does one do a JTAG flash and why may only Sharp do it?

I have a 5500 stuck in the Diagnostic Menu.

If I don't have to do a JTAG flash what is my alternative, please?

depends on router settings - if it is set to "G only" then 802.11b can not work - if you will get this situation then try to switch router to "G+B mode"
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=115404\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Is it fair to say that most if not all new routers come with both G & B toggled on?

If one buys a used router on a rare occasion the prior owner may have customized it
to "g" only.

There are some older "g" routers that drop all speeds to "b" if there is even one "b" logged
on but I understand that the newer ones only downshift for the individual "b" and continue
to run full "g" speed for the "g" devices.

Or so I am told ... ;-)

I didn't want him to buy my "b" device only to discover that he could have bought a "g"
and have it work on his Zaurus.

BTW:  Is $25. shipped fair or a little high for a used D-Link Air in the current marketplace?
I really do not know.

Alright, I might take you up on that offer.

Wireless does confuse me a bit.  My wireless router is 802.11g.  Would 'b' work with it?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=115383\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

It should.  I have never seen one that is not "backwards compatible".

It likely says that somewhere on the box or in the docs.  ;-)

according to SHARP, thedevice is definately in need of service.  if you are out of warranty there is a $50 estimate fee (that if you approve the estimate will go towards the repair) in addition to a $10 shipping fee.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=114002\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Mine failed all 6 tests!  ;-(

It would seem that it is a hardware failure but I want to try a hard factory-settings reset first.

Now if only I could remember how to do that!

I want to buy a CF 802.11g card.  I need it for use with my Sharp Zaurus SL-C1000.  If anyone wants to offer an 802.11b card, I might go for that as well.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=115374\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I have a D-Link Air 802.11b.

It was working fine on the 5500 until something happened to the CF slot ... now it won't read
anything CF  ;-(

Not sure what a used D-Link 802.11b is worth these days.  Perhaps $25. including shipping in
the continental USA (perhaps a little more elsewhere)?

I thought I read somewhere that "g" devices do work on the C1000/3xxx but not on the 5xxx
because it cannot handle the speed.  You may want to check that before settling for a "b".

I am afraid I am not up to speed on OpenEmbedded, can you provide a "Readers Digest"
summary of what it is all about and who might be qualified to test it?

I have a SL-5500 with what appears to be a defective CF slot and a fully functional
C1000.  Are either of them suitable test platforms?

Hi,

I tried the AmbiCom Wave2Net 54 Mbp yesterday at CompUSA. Of course it did not work, as expected. But getting that card running would be great.

It's not only fast, but the card is smaller than my D-Link (that for some strange reason stopped operating recently), in particular it is slightly thinner at the antenna AND it is available for 60 bucks right around the corner!

Please, help, that card would be great!
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=114351\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Have you seen or heard any good news re. this card?

I have Cacko running on my C1000 so am hoping the solution supports Cacko.

Thanks!  doc

I think I told you that Jsword requires JDK 1.4. Your Blackdown Java is 1.3 only.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=114457\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I'm sorry, my question was more primitive than it appeared.

I was also asking if the version numbers of the different Java distros matched
and apparently they do if JDK 1.4 and Blackdown 1.3 are incompatible.

Will keep exploring ... Thanks!   doc

My DLink DCF-660W also stopped responding in my 5500.  It lights up and appears to attempt to connect but then nothing.  I am trying to connect to a Linksys router.  Not sure if there is a setting problem or what but lost patience with it.  I ordered a SanDisk WI-FI 128MB Card (CF Wireless B & 128 Memory & PCMCIA Adapter all in one package for $35. incl. shipping)  Will sell the 660W to someone who wants to try it.

Sure hope someone is able to get the AmbiCom working with the C1000/3000/3100!

Updated gnomesword_2.1.1_armv5tel.ipk and gtkhtml_3.0.10_armv5tel.ipk to fix:
1. the crash on startup when there is no configuration data in .gnomesword
2. the crash when typing characters the studypad

Anyone download the ipks before this post should download and install these 2 packages again.
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Should I expect this to work on my C1000 under Cacko?

What about JSword?

Thanks!  doc
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=113969\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I don't think it works with Cacko because it requires X and GTK. JSword requires JDK 1.4 but we don't have JDK 1.4 in Zaurus.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=114227\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I read the following re. the C3000 here: [a href=\"http://www.daniel-hertrich.de/zaurus/zps/]http://www.daniel-hertrich.de/zaurus/zps/[/url]

# Jeode (evm)

# J2SE from Blackdown

      see also http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/custom.html#java

# installing the IPK:

    * tar -xzvf ..ipk
    * tar -xzvf data.tar.gz
    * mv j2re1.3.1 /usr/local/
    * ln -s /usr/local/j2re1.3.1/bin/java /usr/bin/java
    * ln -s /usr/local/j2re1.3.1/bin/armv4l /usr/local/j2re1.3.1/bin/armv5tel
    * ln -s /usr/local/j2re1.3.1/lib/armv4l /usr/local/j2re1.3.1/lib/armv5tel
    * ln -s /usr/lib/libstdc++-3-libc6.1-2.10.0.so /usr/lib/libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3
    * chmod a+x /usr/local/j2re1.3.1/bin/java
    * STILL DOESNT WORK!
    * .......

Were it to work might jsword then run or are the versions of java incompatible?

Thanks!  doc

Would you please E-mail her back and ask for some details re. the Linux
compatibility?

Will it require ndiswrapper and the WinXP drivers?

What is the chipset?

Which version of Linux 2.4xx?  2.6xx?

With which Linux distro have they tested it?

What dependencies?

Software / Dmblogger (for V1.4.1 And Later)
« on: February 07, 2006, 08:59:57 am »
Has anyone compared dmblogger to thingamablog?

Just wondering as I have used thingamablog (requires Java) under Puppy Linux on an older laptop and it works really well.

Would be neat if it worked on my C1000.

If dmblogger is better then I could switch to that on both platforms.

Thanks!  doc
