How To Reset Opie?

Hey there..
   
     Okay, I'm frustrated with installing this and that just to get something to work on OPIE 3.5.3.  I don't understand most of response for my questions. Sorry. Newbie.  When I try to uninstall and install packages, it take forever. Sometimes 5 minutes.
All I want to know, is there a way to do a FULL RESET for OPIE??

Before for the Zaurus ROM, we just replace the battery cover and press that FULL RESET button. I noticed it doesn't work for OPIE.  Another other way?

Also, are there directions on installing media players, mp3 players, files, and etc for newbies? Searching the forum gets very difficult to get direct answers.

What you want is to return your Z to the 'factory default state' (that sort of thing).

To do that with OZ you'll need to reflash (because OZ has a writable flash memory, it can't be restored without a flash whereas the Sharp ROM as a readonly flash memory and all the user's settings are stored in RAM - which can be wiped with a reset.

Are you using the command line ipkg or the GUI package manager. I recommend you use the command line (that way you can better see what is going on during the install).

Also, are there directions on installing media players, mp3 players, files, and etc for newbies?

The choices for media/mp3 players are: xmms, opie-mediaplayer2, mplayer

If someone can say which is the best of these (I'm running GPE atm) then I'll give you instructions as to how to install them.

To help speed up your installs, everyday use, and reduce the number of program crashes you should make a swap partition on an SD card.  The documentation is in different posts on the forum but if you can't find it, post a request and myself or someone else can walk you through it.

This really has nothing to do with the topic of the thread.

Equally, a swap file is largely useless (I've never needed one anyway) for everyday use unless you have one of the machines with only 32MB or RAM.

Sorry, I have one of the 32MB RAM Zaurus' and the swap makes a big difference...  I was just trying to give a tip that would hopefully prevent Opie from coming to a crawling halt in the first place.
