I am just wondering aloud...
If the differentiation between the C1000 and C3000 comes down to the 4 GB microdrive and again there is this doubt wether themicrodrive could survice a drop etc worries, then why not just buy a C1000 (much cheaper) and get an extra portable Hard drive (microdrive based).
Since these devices have a USB host - the whole point is being able to extend the capacity with USB devices - like a USB HDD.
I uderstand that's another device to carry around - but this is for people like me who are in doubt if they need a 4 GB microdrive inside, maybe/maybe-not kind of.
That's the main reason I upgraded from my C750 - the USB host port - the flexibility to add storage (and devices) when I need it (since I don't forsee needing it all the time) on the C1000.
On the downside, when you are carrying the C1000 and the external portable HDD, you have to worry about dropping it for two devices instead of one - double trouble.

Convenience. The drive's always there - you can't forget it, don't have to set it up, and it will draw less power than a USB connector. With the internal drive the Z is self contained, and thus easier to manage than with a USB dongle attached. (For example, who wants to watch videos on a plane when you are trying to hold the Z and some sort of external media...)
Nobody's saying that the C1k can't be made to do as much as a C3k, but it comes at the loss of usability associated with always having a USB dongle hanging off of it. The price difference between the two is ~$200CAN, which is less than the typical cost of a 4gb microdrive.
Besides, swapping to the microdrive on the C3k is much better than trying to swap to any other media.
