Throwing my hands up
« on: January 22, 2004, 09:55:05 pm »
I had OZ/Opie connecting to Qtopia great and then put on The Kompany Rom, and can\'t get it to talk over USB. The IP addy is right and I get beeps but it won\'t communicate.  All I have is the dock and my SUSE, no card reader, WiFi, LAN or Win PC to sync with.  Any ideas on how to get the 5000sl TKR v.1 to connect??

This may be overly obvious, but I\'d try these things in order:
1) Setup z for advanced TCP/IP (that\'s what you do, i believe)
2) check computer network connections with ipconfig to see if it recognizes the z address
- if address not correct, pull the usb cable out and put it back, then try ipconfig again after a minute or so.
3) try connecting to the zaurus sync software; if it doesn\'t work, i\'d try a reinstall, as that solved the issue for me once.

Those suggestions may be things that you\'ve already tried, but they\'ve hung me up before...

Probably God punishing you for defecting ;-)

On a more constructive note, the Tkc ROM requires the new (Sharp ROM 3.xx) drivers whereas the OZ ROM uses the old ones, so if you\'ve not removed the old ones and installed the new ones then that\'ll be your problem.

Thanks n8a, I\'m sure to most those things would be obvious to a lot of posters, but not to me, good ideas, I\'ll try tonight.

Lardman you are probabley right.  I think Tkc ROM is pretty, but not right for me, reminds me of my last couple of girlfriends.

I\'ll post if I get it going.

Here\'s what I\'m getting...

usb0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 40:00:00:00:FF:03
          inet addr:192.168.129.1  Bcast:192.168.129.255  Mask:255.255.255.255
          inet6 addr: fe80::4200:ff:fe00:ff03/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1
          RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:4 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:100
          RX bytes:0 (0.0   TX bytes:304 (304.0

I set the USB IP on the Z and restart USB but when I start the sync I get:  PC Link Error occured. Please confirm the connection. I then unplug the USB, get a few beeps, plug it back in, get a few more beeps, run another ifconfig -a, get the same thing as above, and Qtopia doesn\'t find and the Z gives the same error.

I guess I\'ll just need to invest in a card reader and go from there.

I don\'t try to sync with Linux (just with my work PC), and so I can\'t help.  Anyone?

Why not? I don\'t understand why Sharp would put a Linux OS on the Z and not think that we Linux enthusiasts would not want to sync it with their systems.  I\'m really curios to find out Sharp\'s stance on this.  Has anyone read anything on this point?  Or were they just hoping that third parties would do the deed for them.  I wish I\'d done some more ressearch, before I started this.

This is sad but true.  You can NOT sync the tkcROM with linux.  Period.  It\'s not possible.  At all.  Unless there is some new developement I don\'t know about.

Anyway, you need to go back to OZ if you want to connect to linux.  Every version of OZ has worked for me with Mandrake
