Using Expansion Port For Cf W/o Sled
« on: June 27, 2005, 03:32:08 pm »
My question is, would it be possible to use the rather large space at the bottom rear of the 6000L that is used for the sled expansion, but just stick a CF card down there?

For example, I have a bluetooth CF card that is low-profile.  For the sake of argument, is it possible to make a custom adapter for the bottom of the Z so I could stick the CF card in there?

Physically, I know that the space there isn't adequate for a CF card, but an adapter that turns the card around so it hugs the rear of the Z, or that extends below it, would be preferable to a sled that increases the size and weight of the Z substantially.

I suppose a lot of the answer to this question depends on the internals of the sled.  Does the sled contain integrated electronics, or does it just route the wires from the sled interface to secondary battery and secondary CF slot?

I don't know if a simple adapter could be made, but I do know there is a significant amount of circurity in the sled.

Hmmmm. does anyone have the pinouts for the expansion adapter?

It might be possible to make an adapter.... I was thinking that a bluetooth module(? as mentioned elsewhwere on oesf) might just be soldered in there... maybe even poke an led through the cover.

That would be what most of us 6kl owners would want, wouldn't it? (though a real cardslot would be way cool)

I just wish they made a pcmcia card slot adapter like my old iPaqs!  That would have been nice.

I don't think you could do that, even if there isn't extra circuitry and you can plug in the correct lines, the sled provides power to the second CF slot, so you would have to find a way to feed it from the Z or add another battery, either way you're probably better off with the sled.
