Xmmc And Mplayer
« on: October 19, 2005, 07:30:43 pm »
i really want a good gui video player so i can stream some video, so i have xmms (x multimedia system) and the mplayer xmms embedded so it runs video. problem is it doesnt work. When i type mplayer in terminal i get that the codecslconf file is incompatible. so does anyone know where to get the right version? or give me a walk through on how to install this player to run divx.

I've tried vlc but it doesnt work. Two of the packages i need from the main site do not work and do not install.

any help would be appreciated

Unless you are running OZ, I wouldn't bother with MPlayer. AFAIK all available versions that actually/possibly do run on a stock Sharp ROM Collie are hopelessly outdated whereas recent MPlayer builds require a Z that sports a PXA processor, since they use PXA instructions for improved performance. (I'm sure someone will correct me if this is no longer the case  )

If you are talking about the Z version propagated via the original VideoLAN website, I'm not surprised. Much like the MPlayer versions claiming to run on Collie it is seriously outdated and will most likely lack in usefulness even if someone manages to make it work.

I was at that point about a year ago and eventually gave up on everything that floated around out there in favour of doing my own thing. That process is fairly well documented here in this forum

So you may want to have a look at [a href=\"https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=8142]this thread[/url] for starters to learn what you can expect and if you really want to give things a whirl, use one of the downloads available from this thread. It works nicely for me (and, seemingly, for a few others  ), though it hardly qualifies for your criteria "good gui player".

Best regards,
Chris.

MPlayer does work on the 5500, although I haven't found a nice GUI to go along with it.  But if you're willing to use the command line, it runs fine.  I just installed it on my 5500 yesterday in fact, using the binary from this site:

MPlayer on Zaurus

The author includes a valid codecs.conf file to go along with the binary.

Maybe this is an "outdated" version, but it plays the movies I've given it so far.

Yep, most certainly is  . But indeed that doesn't really matter too much if it does the things you want it to do.

I remember trying that version when I started out doing video on the Z and having some problems with it (though I no longer can come up with the details). Might have had something to do with me still running 2.38 back then, though.

Best regards,
Chris.
