Does anyone know where I might find a microphone like the one shown in the manual?
No attachment cord, just a plug in.

Do you not have pubs in slovakia?

I have a sony microphone that came with the Sony D3 professional walkman which I bought 10 years ago in the uk.

It is a tie clip microphone, but the end detaches to reveal a 3.5mm jack which is about the same size as a cigarette filter.

It\'s stereo too, works in my 5500, (but only mono) in bothe tie clip mode and stub mode.

The best thing about it, is that the end is very flexible so if it gets nocked in your pocket it doesn\'t damage anything.

I used to use it to tape the audio from live gigs I used to attend.

If these things were about 10 years ago, I am sure someone must sell them still.

Be careful then,

off topic, but it is funny...

I was at a party at my freinds house several years ago, when he decided to hold an impromptu doom session (I said it was several years ago).

Typically, his new machine stopped working part way through.

One guy decided that we should try and fix it.

Bad move!!, we should have left it till the morning.

he had the back off, and was prodding about when, without warning he shouted carrots in to the back of the thing.

Again, maybe at this point we should have left it, but ...

shortly after the machine was fully stripped and being cleaned in the shower in order to remove any offending particles.

Then came the hairdryer to dry all the bits.

At this point we did leave it till the morning to dry fully.

The next day we finally got it back together, and amazingly it worked!!!

We were lucky that time, very lucky.

The sound quaility is actually really impressive. You can get the parts for cheap from mpja.com:

They also have metal connectors, but I like the plastic because it\'s easier to cut if you need to and you don\'t need to worry as much about grounding out the positive wire by mistake. I have some of the metal connectors and will put one together some day just because it would look really classy if done right!

A little update:

My plan to make a mini-mic out of a cheap headphones+mic set was partially successful. It did take me about half a day but I ended up with a very nice, sturdy mini-mic. The performance, however, was utterly disappointing - I had to hold it right next to my mouth and speak quite loudly in order to get acceptable results. In this case, \"cheap but adequate\" had indeed been a naive expectation.

While experimenting with the mini-mic, I got tired of plugging the mini-mic and headphones in and out constantly, and I recalled I\'d heard somewhere that speakers (or headphones) could function as microphones, and so I tried speaking into one of the headphones. I expected poor results similar to the mini-mic but what I got instead was absolutely superb recording! It was very much comparable to my Creative desktop mic. I must say these are quality headphones (Thomson HED155 auto-retractable earbuds).

So my DIY mini-mic job turned out to be pointless (apart from being lots of fun I must say) but I\'ve discovered I already have a couple of great microphones and I can listen to my recordings immediately without plugging/unplugging jacks. And I can still use the mini-mic in some rare circumstances.

I believe one can talk into the earpiece of a stereo headset for the \"mic\" function (I think it is the \"left\" one) ... quit workable for voice notes. Not sure of other recording situations.

BTW, zbones... great story! \"shouting carrots\"!!! never heard that phrase... hee hee
