Another Cyrillica Question
« on: November 11, 2006, 11:11:58 am »
Does anybody know if I can use Cyrillica on an original Sharp Rom on c3100?

I installed this package:

http://my-zaurus.narod.ru/downloads/cyrill...r_1.0.3_arm.ipk

However, when I type say in Russian, the text comes out in English.
SL-C3100 (from PriceJapan.com): modified Sharp Rom (couldn't make Japanese input work in Cacko Rom)

Certainly does, but you will need to add the necessary fonts.

I use instead of the standard on screen keyboard that comes with the Sharp rom and also for entering esperanto.

Not sure what version the latest Cacko 1.23 comes with, but that's what I'm using - copied form the cacko rom

Yey.  It works.  [Oops.  It worked and now it doesn't.  I need to figure out what happened.  It goes back between working and not, I can't find the pattern]

Ok.  I've figured out the problem.  I totally forgot that I had some keyhelper packages installed from meanie's website.  They conflicted with cyrillica's package.

The only remaining problem is that onscreen keyboard has squares instead of letters in Russian and Ukrainian.  This is because the system font does not have Cyrillic I guess.  Is system font helvetica? Any system fonts that would work with all the following: Japanese, Cyrillic (Russian/Ukrainian mostly), French, English?  Arial Unicode?

Stu, what font do you use?

efont seems to cover all the needed Unicode sets.  [a href=\"http://openlab.jp/efont/]http://openlab.jp/efont/[/url] http://ebsnap.lkj.jp/zaurus/  However, there is a spacing issue with Ukrainian 'і' letter (that looks exactly as Latin 'i').  It has blank space after the letter as part of the letter's image so it appears that there is a space in the middle of words.  Then some Cyrillic letters look very artsy (Cyrillic 'д' for example).
efont (at least the one that is at http://ebsnap.lkj.jp/zaurus/) also misses Japanese punctuation marks 『』「」
