Hancom Sheet Limited To 16,xxx Rows?
« on: January 23, 2006, 11:40:27 pm »
I have 2 databases of my karaoke songs and I have 21,027 songs listed by artist and in the second database, listed by song.
I had this same problem on the Palm's default program, it would only list 6,000 rows. I got another program which would open the entire sheet.
On my Zaurus, Hancom Sheet will only open 16,000 or so rows. (It stopped at "Rod Stewart") Where can I find a database program that will open excel sheets and has no limitations as to length of the sheet, or at least a higher limitation.
On my desktop PC, I have a rather old version of Excel, it's Excel '97. It has a limit of 255,625 rows, but I doubt I'll ever have that many songs to run into this limitation.

Thank you for reading this,
Jon

Maybe an alternative for you:
Portabase is a very nice database application. For database usage much better than most spreadsheet applications, especially much better than Hancom Sheet <g>.
Can import CSV, so you can easily transfer your data without reentering it manually.
Portabase also runs on Windows, so the files can be used on almost all computers unmodified.

daniel3000,
How did you get portabase to recognise CSV files in the Import dialog? Am I missing a needed library file?
When I use the "Import" function, there are only 2 options:
XML
MobileDB

And the Open dialog shows no files in my directory where I keep my CSV, PDB, XLS, and other files.
I downloaded the latest version from sourceforge - portabase_1.9_new_sharp_roms

I have a C3100 with Cacko 1.23

Thank you,
Jon
EDIT: I got the import function to import my CSV file, you have to create a template, or empty file with defined columns.
It took 10 minutes to start to open the imported CSV file, then it hung up, and I rebooted my C3100.
The same file in PilotDB format on my Palm opens in 7 seconds! (Yes, I said 7 seconds).
And my Palm only has 14MB free, and that's counting program area memory + dynamic memory.
I'll have to find something more stable and quicker to open these files.

An update about finding a program to display my 21,027 row karaoke database.
I stumbled on this when looking at a different program by the same author.
http://free.pages.at/uberger/zaurus/csvview_en.html

It's called CSV view, (csvview). It opens both of my databases with no problems.
It takes awhile to open, and once the columns are set up, it is very readable and searchable.
My databases are in excel format, but they can be also saved, (in excel), as *.csv
