Rank B Sectors?
« on: June 25, 2006, 09:01:35 am »
A few weeks ago I tried installing pdaXrom b2 for C3000. I followed meanies guide and tried installing it a few times but the system was very unstable because I was experiencing file corruption on the MD- files would just go missing or get corrupted. This led me to thinking I had a dodgy MD so I went into the D+M menu and ran the HDD diagnostic tools.

The tool seemed to think my HDD was OK- I think. All the sectors were reported as being either 'rank A' or 'rank B', but seeing as it went down to 'rank I' I presume this is OK? I would presume rank A means a sector is in perfect order, but what is the difference between that and a rank b? My final results were

7999487 sectors checked

RANK A 0537

RANK B 0263

It would be cool if someone who is running pdaxromb2 on their C3000 does this same test and see if they get similar results. Why was it so unstable for me? I have put cacko back on now and I've had no problems.

EDIT

Don't quote me on this but the HD diag tool seems to be non-destructive, I found, so you won't have to re-install after running them. The first one is just a checksum, the second set of options inthe HD menu are the full test.
