Usb Wifi Dongle Support?
« on: April 24, 2006, 02:34:41 pm »
The CF slot in my SL-C3000 has a broken pin, so I'm forced to go wireless by other means. I know that PC-based Linux supports a variety of USB dongles for WiFi. Does OZ support this also?

Has anyone done this? Which dongles work? What modules do I need loaded?

Any help would be appreciated!

I don't have specific experience with wi-fi dongles, but I have successfully used a bluetooth dongle to get online, so you do have options, certainly.

Assuming there is source for the linux drivers for the dongle you select, then there shouldn't be too many problems - you could try looking in the feed (in the machine specific parts) to see whether a given driver is available (after you know what the dongle needs) - even if it's not, it shouldn't be too much effort to add it.

I'd also look in the other parts of the forum to see what other people have been using, but bear mind that OZ uses the 2.6.x kernels so make sure any drivers are supported by this too (chances are they will be).

as far as i remember there isnt much suppport for 802.11G cards merged into the mainline, so you will have to compile yourself or get an 802.11b usb card.

thats if you are using 2.6 (OZ), im not sure of the state of 2.4 support.
