in a fanny pack and didn't have any problem

Ha ha ha!! Sorry, being immature, fanny has a different meaning here...
I did see a pouch somewhere which wraps around the arm and allows a PDA to be carried while jogging.
If you are worried about microdrive reliability, you should be able to store enough music to keep your self entertained on a 1 or 2 gig flash card. If you can run longer than that, you have my respect and admiration, but I have no ready solutions for you

A CF card (or MMC/SD) would be best IMHO, I know too many people who have damaged microdrives - even in mp3 players.
But if you don't have that issue, try it.
I was into cycling, my 5500 went everywhere in a bag which could be described as a 'fanny pack' ;-) I did the same with my Clie NX70V, and with my C860 until I came off the bike - I never took it out again. My Yopy does go out all the time, I'd ride with it but probably not jog because of the microdrive I have now.
If you start getting paranoid about damaging your Z, stop. Do what you feel comfortable with, I just got too paranoid with mine, it cost me a lot of money and I was scared of breaking it - hence why I ditched it. I'm thinking of getting an iPod shuffle with armband just for the purpose of jogging.
