Kismet Gui Config Problem
« on: October 25, 2006, 04:24:35 pm »
I've given up on Wellenreiter for the time being and have got kismet_qt going after a fashion but every time I start it it takes me to the Config tab.

I keep changing the default values for the ones that work on my setup and then click 'Save' but the next time it starts the values are back to the defaults.

I've looked in kismet.conf and kismet_qt.conf for these settings but they are not in there.

Can anyone tell me where these kismet_qt settings are supposed to be saved?

Sounds like a permissions issue. Check and see if user "zaurus" and/or group "qpe" has write permissions to these files.

I had the same problem with a couple applications in Cacko.
Opera needs permissions changed for a certain folder/file in order to save bookmarks.

The emulator for the Genesis needs permissions changed for "game saves" to operate properly.

I'm not even sure that these particular settings are stored in kismet_ui.conf.

When kismet_qt starts it displays the Config tab. The two top items are:

Scheme (which I have to set to 'Sharp-prism2' - default is 'Hostap')
Channel (which I have to set to 'All Intl' - default is 'All US')

I've changed owner/permissions to zaurus.qpe/664 but the settings are still not saved. Does anyone know where these settings are stored and in what format?

Help on this would be very much appreciated.

Problem partially solved.

I discovered, after downloading and looking in the source code, that kismet_qt was looking for it's configuration file (kismet_qt.conf) in /etc/kismet but the package I installed from the ZUG feed puts it in /home/QtPalmtop/etc/kismet and calls it kismet_ui.conf.

Copying the conf file to /etc/kismet cured the problem but does it mean that the package was not intended for a C3100? If so what is the correct package?

Anyone out there running it on a C3100?

At least it is working now.
