The Deathbed Vigil - The Last Days Of Commodore
« on: January 19, 2007, 09:26:37 pm »
I would imagine a large percentage of Z users are Commodore refugees and so I think many of you will find this 2hr documentary by one of the Amiga's main engineers- Dave Haynie- quite interesting or at least a good bit of computing nostalgia. Amigans who've not already seen this might want to check it out just to see footage of the unreleased AAA chipset prototype boards.

Do we have any OESF members who double up as ex-Commodore employees?

I've always said there's Commodore people and there's Tandy people.
Sorry danboid but I'm a Tandy guy.
I'll check out the video though. Sounds good.

Another Tandy refugee here.  It must be a Winnipeg thing.       Now, I'm more of an Apple dude.     Thanks for the video link.  I've wanted to see this but, I was too cheap to buy the Amiga Forever DVD.

Man, I've forgotten how much I hate Google Video.  15 minutes into it I'm getting nauseous.  20 minutes into it, the stream craps out.    Don't even ask about the download.

Jon_J:

Strange- are you trying to download it under IE? When I click 'Download' under FF it saves it as an avi. .gvp (Google Video Player) are just text files in which you should find a link to the actual video.

Trash-80 fans:

Honestly, don't get me started. Comparing the C64 to the TRS-80 is like comparing Bach to the Backstreet Boys    There never was any serious comparison, never will be. IMO the C64 is the most important PC of all time. Indeed, 25 years after its release people still code demos, music and games for it. Check this out for a great example of what can be done with <1Mhz, 64Kb RAM and 16 colours!

Sinclair ZX-81
Commodore C-64
Commodore C-128
PC
SL-C3200 w/ pdaXii13 5.3
SL-C860 w/ OZ GPE 3.4.1
Accessories: 4GB Microdrive, 4GB Transcend SD, Linksys WFC12 CF 802.11b, Ambicom CF Modem, Socket Bluetooth

OK! Lets put the gloves on!
Just kiddin'.
I think they were both good computers.
My first computer was a Tandy  so I probably became biased. When I eventually got a C64 it just didn't turn my crank. *shrug*
