It's crazy indeed, but I'm going to build kdepim. I just have to know if it works. More details to come haha

P.S. Luckily qt was available as a package already, but unfortunately kdelibs and arts were not, so this is gonna take a while...
UPDATE: Arts took 5 hours... kdelibs has several deps that I didn't have installed
DAY 2: Ok kdelibs dependencies are all done... kdelibs is finally starting to build. Hopefully after the 4
hours I still have here at the office are over I'll be able to suspend the build and continue it from
home. I know that building kdelibs on my hyperthreaded p4 3.4ghz with a gig of ram took a long
time... so I expect kdelibs to be at least 8 hours... we'll see!
DAY 4: (yeah I skipped day 3, had a job interview;))
kdelibs took about 16 hours +/- an hour or 2.
kdepim has been going for about 9 hours or so.
My main concern is that I'm going to run out of space on the hard drive... but so far so good!
DAY 5: had to stop for a while, but kdepim is continuing from where it left off (about 13 hours)
watching top it seems the processor is idle a lot... strange. Hopefully when I wake up kdepim will
be done building so I can see if it's various components work...
Great... kdepim is going into it's 20th hour or so... looks like it's into kmail right about now...
......still building kdemail stuff... total for kdepim so far: about 30 hours
DAY 6: ........37 hours and counting. These programs better run haha.
DAY 7: ........goin on about 50 hours now.... I really need to look into cross-compiling
....ok make that 55 hours... give or take an hour haha and still going... it's gonna be so awesome if this actually leaves me with the full kde pim suite and everything works. One day... hopefully soon Ok about 60 hours and MAKE INSTALL IS RUNNING! FINALLY! oh boy the moment of truth is near! I feel like an expecting father.... details to come!
DAY 7 (this demands a new section): OMG. I need kdebase for kdepim to work. This is gonna take another 60 hours at least. But it's not! It's actually only been about 24 hours! and it's building the kde package! This is great! More news to come shortly!
The Verdict:
kde - it's obviously really really slow. I'm going to try to tweak the "eye candy o meter" to the lowest setting...I can't believe I'm actually running kde on this thing. wow. still kde is a bit too big so I won't be using kde
kaddressbook - takes about 4 minutes to open the first time, less than a minute after that. Seems to work fine but I'm losing buttons because the window is too big. Doh! This could be related to the window manager (blackbox)
korganizer - works great so far! none of the windows have been too big to access the buttons on the bottom, and it's a little slow but hey it runs
kmail - crashed on the first run... crashed second run. that's not cool
Well that's all for now. I guess it's time for me to decide whether it's worth the effort to deal with the sluggishness...
