please help newbie setup a VPN

I just received my 5600 with a netgear MA701.  I installed openVPN to get in to the corporate network here at work... and thats as far as I\'ve managed to get.

openVPN isnt coming up with a gui interface so I guess its command line.  I dont know how to bring the terminal up (I\'m completely new to the world of Linux :roll: )

So I\'d appreciate ANY help from someone who has setup a vpn on their 5600.    

I\'m guessing that I need two things, tell me how to initiate the terminal and what I enter in to start the vpn???
Or point me in the direction of a better vpn client.

Ok, so I\'m only on day two of Zaurus and the world of \'linux\'.  I\'ve now installed Terminal but cant firgure out openVPN...

Yeah.. I got the zaurus as a platform for getting in to linux and learning to code java.  I had no idea the deep end was so deep.  I\'m taking a course on linux online at work and I\'m begining to realise the course doesnt even scratch the surface.  I have found this useful link regarding compiling and VPNs http://cmisip.home.insightbb.com/zaurus.htm He also has a great howto on linux.

Still cant get my VPN working in the office and the netgear wont talk to my 3Com access point at home.  Frustrating but I enjoying hacking away.

I\'m really suprised there isnt more help on setting up vpns... please.. anyone reading this - help out!!

Hi,

I\'m not an expert so I may be on the wrong track...

If you simply want to establish a connection through a wireless card in the Z then you may not need OpenVPN. On the Z you can set up a wireless network connection (somewhere in settings?). I think you don\'t have to manually change anything (Infrastructure mode, WEP settings, etc.) in the settings. The Z will pick up the settings from the host. I think after setting up the network connection an icon appears in the taskbar and you can activate the connection through that.

I am on tkcROM 1.0, I have a wireless card installed in my WinXP PC and a D-Link 660W in my Z5500. I can tell you exactly how to set it all up on this configuration  but you may need help from someone more knowledgeable if the above doesn\'t work on your config.

Thanks Gabor, you\'re right I dont need OpenVPN.  reading the small print on that app explained its point to point VPN (virtual private network) The setup we have here at work is such that all 802.11 traffic is off limits until you log in to the network using a security protocol called ipsec.  The standard WEP security that comes with the Zaurus is not deemed *very* secure.

So, after a few hours research and a lot of learning I\'ve installed freeswan and now I\'m trying to figure out the settings in the ipsec files that I need to change.  I feel I\'m on the right path but as I dont know diddly about linux, ipsec or even vi (text editor) I\'m skating on super thin ice.  

I\'m hoping that if I do make a critical config mistake I\'ll be able to recover somehow.  There\'s nothing like learning things the hard way (o;

  Did you have any luck getting freeswan and IPsec goin on your zaurus?  I\'m having trouble getting it working on mine, maybe you could give me some pointers?

I am familiar with IPsec and freeswan, have used it rather extensively on desktops and Redhat Linux, but am having a hard time getting it working for the Zaurus.

Any help is appreciated!
