Cosmo says fully charged (green LED) but battery is 83%
« on: November 11, 2019, 04:24:18 pm »
US Device, AT&T provider,

I am loving the look of the Cosmo, and the increased speed of the device over the Gemini, but my Cosmo battery gets very warm during charging with the included AC adapter, and several times now it only charges to 83%.

Anyone else noting a similar problem?

I've been riding the cosmo VERY hard, and have yet to experience a warm  device.  I'm sitting at around 6 near full charge cycles now, and haven't seen the full charge at under 100%.  I will admit though that the full charges have been overnight, so I can't say 100% that the light didn't turn green prematurely, just that it ultimately does charge to 100% every time.  As for the heat, I've never felt the cosmo get warm in my pocket, or during use, at least not yet.  This includes charging while gaming (testing NWN at low battery is not recommended   ).  If you've checked your battery stats and don't see an obvious culprit, i would consider a full wipe / reset to see if the problem persists without setting up or installing anything.  While i know this is really inconvenient, a positive hit on your issue in this state would be a dead giveaway of a probable hardware issue.  Whats the build date on your firmware?  If its 10-29, and the test is positive, i would report it to planet asap.  They're clearly very busy with fulfillment, but the sooner you're able to report some useful/reliable data, the sooner you could get a replacement (hopefully rather than a repair).

Might be a calibration issue with the battery - I had this issue with the Gemini.

Try this

Thanks very much for this...seems the simplest fix.  I'll give it a try.

Since the first full charge (through PumpFast, left side) my Cosmo, which shows 100% full afterwards, DRAINS POWER and sinks rapidly down to zero like a submarine with screen doors taking on water.

Seriously.

The first full charge lasted 23 hours with the device ON.

The second full charge lasted 18 hours....

NOW, the 3rd and fourth full charges have not lasted more than 12 hours (with Cosmo ON and with limited use) before it drains to ZERO.

BTW, using the supplied (cheap?) USB charger plug, my Cosmo heats up. However, it does not heat up when charged using an "expensive" USB charger plug that I bought for use with my Gemini that did the same thing - get WARM when charging. Using that $$ charger plug, neither device heats up.

Weird that, yes?

Cheers.

The charge indicating Led starts to turn greenish at about 80%. If you look closely when it gets to that level, it's not really full on green. When the charge is at 100%, the light is full on green. I do not now exactly at what percentage above 83% it goes to full green, though.

I know, I'm going to Hell for double posting. Until I get there, though...

Noticed today the keyboard backlighting doesn't seem to be tied into any sort of a light sensor. I wonder if a lot of these poor battery issues are the result of Cosmo users using the thing in the daylight and forgetting to nix the keyboard lighting  for the duration. I know I've done it a couple of times.
