Sync problems with ROM 2.20 and Win XP.
« on: August 09, 2004, 12:57:05 am »
I have a Zaurus 5500 with an old 2.20 ROM and a new Win XP machine, my old 2000 machine that I had syncing working on died.  I would like to update my ROM to 3.1, but first I want to get it syncing because I have a lot of addresses to sync.  Anyway, I installed the windows software from the 20020710UpdateCDforSL.  I now have an SL Series (NDIS 5) Network adapter that shows up when I plug my Zaurus in, but it shows up Disabled, and when I try to Enable it, it says connection failed and goes back to Disabled.  Everything appears to be setup correct on my Zaurus.  Everything is correct in "Network & Sync" and if I type ifconfig in the Terminal I see inet addr:192.168.129.201.  In Windows, I tried both "Optain IP automatically" and setting the IP to 192.168.129.1 with a 255.255.255.0 Subnet and no Default gateway. The firewall is disabled.  I have Uninstalle and reinstalled the drivers several times, still I cannot get the connection to Enable. Also, I intend to use the Qtopia desktop because I don't have Outlook. So, does anyone have an idea on what I need to do to get this thing to sync?
Thanks in advance.

Backup your Windows Registry, then go to Device Manager > View > Show Hidden Devices.  Remove all of the SL Series (NDIS 5) devices under Network adapters.  Reboot your PC and then place your Z in the cradle (turned on) and let Windows recognize the new device and prompt for the drivers CD.

The Z should be directly connected to the PC, not through a USB hub.  You may also need to try a different USB port for Windows to recognize it.

Good luck!
