Backup / restore NAND to share configs ?
« on: September 10, 2004, 08:56:42 pm »
I never tried the C860's backup / restore NAND function ... Maybe I got EVERYTHING the wrong way, but these functions are accessible (in japanese) by turning on the machine while holding the OK button, after taking all power off it ? (it supposedly is in the same japanese menu where you select option 4 to do the OS Update) ....

If I understoof it ok, it would create a HUGE file in an available CF with the whole NAND memory content, thus preserving whatever OS and installed things you could have in there. ....

So this could eventually be a good idea to SHARE different OS configurations among users ??

IF SO, I WOULD LOVE if anyone could post anywhere (hey I have an FTP server !) a NAND IMAGE for a ZAURUS C860 with latest SHARP ROM (I think it is 1.41j) in ENGLISH !

Anyway, most probably  I got it all heads up and this can't be done  but then...

Backup / restore NAND to share configs ?

I would only share NAND Flash Backups among identical models.. for example don't try and flash restore a C860 backup on a C760 etc...

I use NAND Flash Backups to swap between Qtopia and pdaXrom, it's a handy feature.

To access the developer menu remove both mains supply and battery, hold down D and M and insert the battery and attach the mains. Be careful as there's a LOT of options in there to screw up your Zaurus, definately stay away from AGEING / AGING as that'll probably screw up your Z so bad you can't fix it. (That's from earshot, I've never actually tried it myself).

Hi Foxdie !!

I tried lots of those options  But not Aging one  anyway they are mostly tests. I also downloaded a NAND restore from a german company that gave me the original 1.40j rom in english ... kind of "lame" but mostly compatible with everything I have ...

I think we could create a repository of nand restores ?? I mean: If you or anyone managed to get a stable good configuration with EMULATORS and games, I would LOVE to install it in my C860 .... Me, for instance, is going for kismet and network tools and I can share it too ... etc etc.
