For those running the tckROM, what PIM apps can you use?
« on: January 06, 2004, 05:07:50 pm »
Hey all - new here!

My 5500 is running Sharp 3.13 for now, as I need to be able to sync the calendar, email, and contacts with my work Win XP laptop.

I would like to move to the tkcROM, but I really don\'t want to be forced to buy the calendar, todo, email, and contacts apps (as well as the tkcPlayer)as I think they end up costing ~ $60 and I really don\'t know that I\'ll like all of them better.

That said, is anybody able to get the Sharp versions of any of these PIM apps working on tkcROM?  If so, can you point me to the instructs?  Is there any listing of the software that cannot be moved to the tkcROM?

MUCH thanks for any feedback-
N8

The original sharp pims all work under TKC rom.

You do not need to buy the tkc pims.

They do not come with the rom image, simply download the apps zip file and pkg add them yourself.  you can even put them on sd/cf to preserve you precious internal ram.

PS welcome to the club!

zbones - thanks again.  I had been using the applications sets that come with the cacko ROM (an older post-3.10 version) and the apps from Sharp, neither of which had the sharp qt mail, sharp pims and sharp media.  For some reason I thought that I had checked the application bunch that came with tkcROM...

Sharp PIMs will work, but Sharp changed the file format in v3.1, so it is hard to sync using things like MultiSync, and P2Z (converts palm files to Z) won\'t work.
I use the OPIE feed for Sharp ROM, which contains individual files for each PIM app, and P2Z works OK. (It took a few tries to get it to work - during the install of Perl, required for P2Z, I got dependency error messages, but it still worked!)

Hmmm... thanks, Kirk.  That\'s another option I didn\'t really think of.  How are the OPIE PIM apps in comparison to the Sharp PIM apps?  Are they all duplicated?  Are some better than others?  Just curious - luckily I don\'t have to worry about the P2Z stuff!
