Differences Between Tk Rom Versions?

I have been using happily the TK ROM v 1 in my SL5500. What do I gain from using v2 alpha3?

I have also read this latest version allows to prep /home in SD. How do I do that?

(obvious newbie question..... my apologies).

I think the best posts on this were on the devnet site (I can't really remember, but I can't find them here).

I upgraded to v2 alpha 3 last summer, I think.

Without the Home on SD, I woudn't recommend it.  I saw no real functional differences and had problems with a couple of things that worked before (syncing, kismet).

However, if you plan to use the Home on SD I highly recommend it.  It has been like getting a new Z.  I quickly ran out of space installing applications  before.  Very few things would install on SD.  I also had memory problems.   All these went away with Home on SD.  I now use my Z as a php dev platform and also to watch movies using mplayer.  Both were a strain before.

I like the look of the TKCRom and the stripped down basic ROM.   However, CACKO is clearly better supported and also supports Home on SD.  It may be a better way to go now.

Just a quick bit of experience.  I used TKC for about a year, but I've switched over to Cacko for the past 1/2 year or so.  Much better support and software availability.

I don't have time at present, but if you're interested I can let you know my methods.  I have been happily running my 5500 with:
- tkcROM v2 alpha 3
- special zImage from derekp that speeds up SD/MMC reads
- home on sd
- Socket BT Modem Rev G

The combo is killer.  I've used (and still use) my 5500 often despite having a 760.  With my bluetooth card, I'll usually leave about 10-15 web pages up and occassionally refresh the pages (blogs and such) to read later when offline.  With the home on sd you end up with a 20MB swap file that can handle that load.

Maybe a dumb question, but to flash with cacko, 2 questions:

1. If I want to use a 32/30 configuration, what do I use as the base system (as Cacko update only updates the zImage, not the initrd.bin) or.. where do I get the cacko base sys to later apply the patch.

2. If I want to use the 64/0 configuration, what type of SD card should I use. I have a 128Kb kingston and I find it very slow. Would it be worthed to get one of this 60X SD cards? I kind of remember a thread where the data bus for the SL-5500 did not allow for a real improvement of the latest high speed SD cards.

Any light on this.

I finally decided, after checking cacko and openzaurus, to stick with TKC rom v2 alpha 3, with home on SD (kingston 128K, works great!). I am sure that Cacko and Openzarurus are the most advanced in terms of being on the edge of development, but I guess for a newbie like myself it is easier to use and manipulate, plus it has less complications on compatibility issues.

For those that use this ROM (TKC 2.0 Alpha3) or know about it, I would like to ask how to make the calls with bluetooth Aircable Zaurus. I followed all the instructions found here, first I had the problem of the aircable being on power saving mode. After I followed the advise, I manage to pair the AirCable to my ericsson T39m.

I followed the instructions on making a IR connection to later edit the connection file with /dev/ttyS0. But after that, I use the connection wizard to connect and the phone does not call anywhere.

I need Aircable for Dummies for TKC ROM......

Please help
