Pxa270 Vs Pxa280
« on: April 16, 2006, 03:30:23 pm »
I understand the wzero3 has a pxa280 processor- whats the difference between that and the 270? I can't seem to find anything about the 280.
Zaurus SL-C3000 w/ MD swapped for a Kingston 32GB Ultimate 266X CF running ALARM
Banana Pi running ALARM on a WD Scorpio SATA II HD
System76 Gazelle Pro i7 laptop w/ SAMSUNG 840 EVO SSD running Arch x64

How to install Arch on your C3x00 Zaurus https://github.com/danboid/ZALARM-install

The pxa280 (Monahan) hasn't been released yet, so I suspect it's a typo on the website. Sharp itself specifies a 270: [a href=\"http://www.sharp.co.jp/ws/function/spec.html]http://www.sharp.co.jp/ws/function/spec.html[/url]

IIRC the pxa280 has support for 5.1 surround sound and a slightly better framebuffer. OEMs like Garmin already have samples to play with, so you'd have to ask them about details

If i remeber it also goes up to 1.2Ghz BUT it dosent get 2x the performance, the stuff i read was more like an engineer saying "Managment told us to make it run at twice the clock speed even if it performed the same" but thats my opinion and not stated anyware

but they have stated that there is little performance gain in the new processor, i think i am starting to prefer the new arm11 chips if Intel keeps on diong this to such a great chip

I really like the OMAP series, especially the integrated DSP

I have only seen poor performance in benchmarks from them but that was for windows CE vs the pxa255  also they seemed to get very bad battery life but i think that may have been because of the OS

i would like to see the OMAP with DSP vs pxa270 with iwmmxt and no video accelaration hardware apart from the stuff i listed, would be very intresting

any one know of a PDA running the OMAP with a linux port?

The Nokia 770 springs to mind, though I guess it's not technically a PDA. Specs here
Zaurus SL-C1000 - Linux 2.6.22 - Angstrom/Debian dual boot - Ambicom 802.11b - 1GB Corsair SD
Nokia N800 - 2GB PQI SD card
Zaurus SL-5500 - OZ 3.5.3/Hentges T2/Opie - 64MB Lexar SD card
